The Environmental Impact Quotient on Fruit and Vegetables Pesticides in Korea (국내 과채류에 등록된 농약에 대한 환경영향지수)

  • The Environmental Impact Quotient(EIQ) has been used to organize the extensive toxicological and soil residue data available on some fruit vegetables pesticides into a usable form for field use. It addresses a majority of the environmental concerns that are encountered in agricultural systems including farm worker, consumer, ecological and environmental safety. The EIQ made use of the rating system by using the EIQ equation. The EIQ of pesticides registered for oriental melon was higher than that of other in terms of farm worker, consumer and environmental safety. Pesticides registered for red pepper showed highest EIQ in ecosystem. The EIQ decreased in order of insecticide> fungicide> herbicide> plant growth regulator. The environment Impact Quotient for the pesticides registered in fruit and vegetables decrease gradually.

  • The role of local economies in pursuing national economic development has expanded with greater influence. So a number of countries have adopted industrial cluster policies for regional and national economic development. Korean government, by the same token, puts emphasis on industrial cluster policies. But the academic studies on the necessities and effects of industrial clusters for Korean shipbuilding industry have been carried out little in Korean due to the lack of empirical studies on Korean industrial clusters. So this study focuses on analysing the industrial clusters in the Busan, Ulsan, Koungnam as southeast area of Korea. To be more specific, this study intends to provide answers to the following question: Are there industrial clusters in the Busan, Ulsan, Koungnam as southeast area of Korea analysed by the Location Quotient(LQ) analysis method? And as a consequence, Shipbuilding industrial clusters of southeast area of Korea were not identified.

A Study on the Effect of Administrative Districts Separation to the Changes of Population and Industry in a Region: A Case Study on Goesan-gun and Jeungpyeong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-Do (행정구역 분리가 지역의 인구와 산업 변화에 미친 영향에 대한 연구: 충청북도 괴산군과 증평군을 사례로)

  • Goesan-gun and Jeungpyeong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-Do have been separated administratively since 2003. Goesan-gun is rural area, and Jeungpyeong-gun is urban area. The purpose of this study is to observe changes after the separation of administrative districts (Goesan-gun and Jeungpyeong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-Do). This study observed changes of Goesan-gun and Jenugpyeong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-Do based on population, the highest land value, employees and location quotient. Population of Goesan-gun has decreased, and that of Jeungpyeong-gun has increased. The highest land value of Jeungpyeong-gun has increased more than that of Goesan-gun. Observation of location quotient, with the location quotient of 2013 as a criterion, showed that manufacturing business and producer service business have developed in Jeungpyeong-gun, while agriculture and customer service business have developed in Goesan-gun. This result is due to the difference between regional characteristic of Goesan-gun and Jeungpyeong-gun.

Development and Application of Hygiene Safety Quotient (HSQ) and Nutrition Quotient (NQ) Management Web & App Program for Efficient Foodservice Management of Children's Foodservice Facilities (어린이 급식소의 효율적인 급식관리를 위한 위생·안전지수·영양지수 관리 웹 & 앱 프로그램 개발 및 적용)

  • The Center for Children's Foodservice Management periodically visited children's foodservice facilities for hygiene, safety and nutrition management, and the 'HSQ (Hygiene Safety Quotient) and NQ (Nutrition Quotient) Management Web & App Program' was developed and applied to improve the health, safety, and nutrition management status of children's foodservice facilities. The HSQ is a comprehensive hygiene and safety index consisting of six categories from the hygiene and safety checklist for children's foodservice facilities provided by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. The NQ is a nutrition index for foodservice facilities consisting of five categories from the nutrition checklist. First, this program can be used to efficiently understand the actual conditions of children's foodservice. Foodservice facilities are provided with the result report prepared by the center without restrictions on time or place. Second, it can be used as "a channel for comfortable communication with foodservice facilities". Foodservice facilities are provided with a route where questions and resolutions can be communicated to the center. Third, it is easy to compare and review the results of foodservice facilities by institution and number of visits while downloading the results data at the same time, as the result report is written based on hygiene, safety, and nutrition visits. Through such programs, it is believed that standardized work and integrated management will improve the work efficiency of the center's employees. It is also thought that these programs will promote healthier life-styles in children by establishing a safe food environment for children's foodservice.

Comparison of Nutritional Status and Eating Behavior of Korean and Chinese Children using the Nutrition Quotient (NQ) (어린이 영양지수(Nutrition Quotient)를 이용한 한국과 중국 초등학생의 영양상태 및 식행동 실태 비교)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the nutritional status and dietary behavior of Korean and Chinese elementary school children using Nutritional Quotient (NQ). Methods: The survey was conducted by distributing questionnaires to the parents of the child, after selecting four elementary schools located in Pusan city of Korea and three elementary schools located in Luoyang city, Henan Province of China, from Grade 1 to Grade 6 in each school. Results: The NQ scores of Korean children and Chinese children were 64.99 and 66.57, respectively, which did not show a statistically significant difference. Korean children significantly showed higher diversity score (p<0.001) than Chinese, but Chinese children significantly showed higher moderation (p < 0.001), regularity (p < 0.001) and practice score (p < 0.01) than Korean. NQ grades showed a statistically significant difference. According to food security of the household, NQ scores of the Chinese children of secure household were significantly higher than those of food insecurity household (p < 0.01). In particular, it showed a significant difference in the practice (p < 0.001), moderation (p < 0.05) and regularity score (p < 0.05). Korean children's NQ score showed a significant correlation with the score of following the Dietary Guidelines of parents, but Chinese did not show such a correlation. Conclusions: There were differences in children's dietary behaviors and parents' impact to children's dietary attitude between Korean and Chinese. NQ developed for Korean could be successfully applied to Chinese.

A Study of Correlation between Big 5 Personality Traits and SRQ of Brain Quotient (Big 5 성격특성과 뇌기능 분석지수(BQ)의 자기조절지수 (Self Regulation Quotient)와의 상관관계 연구)

  • This study was to examine the correlation of Personality and EEG. Personality test and EEG of the 40 team leader of a business enterprise were carried out at the same time and the correlation of test results were analyzed. Personality test was done by Big 5 and brain waves were measured by 2-Channel EEG System at Fp1 and Fp2. The analysis showed a positive correlation between the Big 5 agreeableness and SRQ(Self Regulation Quotient) relaxation status which is related with alpha rhythm, and showed a negative correlation between the Big 5 openness and SRQ concentration status which is related with low_beta rhythm. It means that the personality is closely correlated with human brain cortex activation and can be checked by brainwave analysis.

Evaluation of items for the food behavior checklist and nutrition quotient score on children in rural areas of Gyeongbuk (경북 농촌지역 어린이 대상 영양지수 (Nutrition Quotient) 조사 및 평가)

  • The aim of this study was to determine whether Nutrition Quotient (NQ) for children, which has been developed from data on urban children, can be applied to children in rural areas. A total of 200 children (108 boys and 92 girls) in fifth and sixth grade at three elementary schools in rural areas of Gyeongbuk participated in the survey conducted during June 2012. Questionnaires consisted of items on food intake frequency and dietary behavior. Food intake data were obtained using the 24-hour recall method, and nutrient intake was calculated using the CAN-Pro 4.0 Program. Percentages of children who took less than the estimated average requirement were 76.5%, 49.5%, 45.5%, 33.5%, and 26.0% for calcium, vitamin C, iron, vitamin A, and folate, respectively. Significant associations were observed between intake frequencies of vegetables, kimchi, and fruits, and intake of vitamin C, folate, and dietary fiber. White milk and legumes showed positive correlation with intake of calcium and vitamin A. Eating breakfast, meal regularity, and diverse side dishes showed positive correlation with intake of folate and calcium. The 19 food checklist items could be categorized according to five factors. The mean NQ score of the subjects was 62.0, which was similar to that of urban children, 64.4. NQ score and factor scores for balance, regularity, and practice were significantly lower in children with lower socioeconomic level as compared to those with higher socioeconomic level. Higher NQ score showed an association with increased intake of vitamin B2, folate, vitamin C, and calcium. In conclusion, NQ offers a valuable instrument for evaluation of food habit and dietary quality of rural children as well as urban children, and children with low socioeconomic status should be monitored by testing with NQ checklist before implementation of nutrition programs.

Evaluation of Dietary Habits and Nutrition Quotient Scores according to Leftover Food during School Meal Service among Middle School Students in Gyeonggi (경기지역 중학생의 학교급식 잔반량에 따른 식생활 및 영양지수 평가)

  • This study examined the dietary habits and nutrition quotient (NQ) scores according to leftover food during school meal services among middle school students in the Gyeonggi region. A survey on the dietary habits was conducted among 405 male and female middle school students located in Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province. The amount of leftover food in the school meals was surveyed using the visual method through a questionnaire over two days. The survey was conducted from July 8, 2019, to July 12, 2019. After calculating the average total leftovers of each student over the two days, they were categorized into the following three groups: the top third was the large leftover group. The middle third was the medium leftover group, and the lower third was the small leftover group. The characteristics of the groups that had leftovers were analyzed. Female, normal-weight, and underweight students accounted for a greater proportion of the large leftover group than male, overweight, and obese students. The rates of selective eating and compliance with new food intake were significantly lower in the large leftover group than in the small leftover group. A comparison of the nutrition quotient for the adolescent (NQ-A) scores of each group revealed significantly lower scores of the large leftover group for all factors (balance, moderation, food diversity, practice, and environment) than the small leftover group. Therefore, there are statistically significant differences in the dietary habits, nutritional quality, and eating behaviors of middle school students that are associated with the amount of leftover food during school meals.

Evaluation of Dietary Behaviors According to Sasang Constitution Using a Nutrition Quotient: A Korean Medicine Daejeon Citizen Cohort Study (성인 영양지수(Nutrition Quotient)를 이용한 사상체질에 따른 식습관 평가: 대전시민건강코호트)

  • Objectives Meal and nutrition are important lifestyle factors that affect maintenance and promotion of health status and are also associated with chronic diseases. In Sasang constitutional medicine, dietary behavior according to the characteristics of Sasang constitution (SC) types is a key component in health management. The aim of this study was to evaluate the nutritional status and quality of meals according to the SC. Methods This was a cross-sectional study of 1,947 subjects surveyed in a community-based cohort called the Korean Medicine Daejeon Citizen Cohort study. Data were collected including demographic characteristics, Korea Sasang Constitutional Diagnostic Questionnaire, and nutrition quotient (NQ) for adults. We analyzed the differences in NQ grade and scores among three SC types: Taeeumin (TE), Soeumin (SE), and Soyangin (SY), by conducting chi-square and ANCOVA tests. Results The distribution of SC into TE, SE, and SY types was 43.1%, 25.2%, and 31.8%, respectively. The mean NQ score of all subjects was 53.4±8.6. There was a significant difference in the distribution of NQ grades and mean of NQ scores among SC types, including total and four sub-factors: balance, diversity, moderation, and dietary behavior. The TE type had the lowest score for the moderation factors in the crude model. The SE type showed lower NQ scores than the TE and SY types in all domains except moderation after adjusting for variables. Conclusions We found that dietary behaviors had to be distinct according to the SC types. These results elucidate why it is important to develop a customized dietary habit management program considering the SC types.

Pattern of Using Nutrition Supplements and Nutrition Quotient of Adults Who Practice Strength Exercise Regularly (규칙적 운동을 하는 남녀 성인의 근력운동 빈도에 따른 영양 보충제 이용 및 영양정보 획득의 실태 및 영양지수)

  • This study compared the pattern of purchasing nutritional supplements and obtaining nutrition information and the Nutrition Quotient of adults who exercise regularly according to the frequency of muscle training (LM, muscle training less than two days/week; MM, 2~3 days/week; HM, more than three days/week). Compared to the other groups, significantly more men in the HM group answered that they had purchased supplements and would repurchase them. They presented "increasing muscle mass" as the purpose of buying them and "types and contents" as the major factor to consider before buying. The supplements that significantly more subjects in the HM group purchased than in the other groups were protein supplements, BCAA (Branched-chain amino acid), arginine, and caffeine supplements for men and protein supplements, BCAA and carnitine for women. Compared to the other groups, significantly more men and women in the HM group reported "trainer" as the major source of nutrition information, and significantly more men in the HM group reported "increasing muscle mass" as the 1st topic of nutrition education that they wanted to receive and were satisfied with the information that they obtained. Most of all, males and females in the HM group had significantly a higher Nutrition Quotient than in the other groups. The differences between males and females in variables regarding exercise, the patterns of using supplements and acquiring nutrition information, and Nutrition Quotient were also found. These results can provide basic data for developing educational materials emphasizing the wise consumption of nutrition information, including supplement intake.
