  • Generation of a quiet zone in noisy environment is undoubtedly of considerable realistic significance. This paper describes development and implementation of a multichannel real-time active noise control (ANC) system for 3 dimensional noisy environment to enhance the quiet zone performance in terms of size and noise cancellation gain. The proposed ANC system employes a multichannel delay-compensated filtered-X least mean square (FXLMS) algorithm; its real-time implementation is designed in TMS320C6713 digital signal processor (DSP) board. The system is evaluated for cancelling various tonal frequency noises in the range from 100 to 500 Hz, and the performance is then illustrated by measuring the quiet zone in terms of sound pressure level (SPL) attenuation. Experiment results show that a quiet zone of quiet with satisfactory size and maximum 24 dB noise attenuation is successfully generated.

  • Two-lalyered quiet asphalt pavements are well known for their noise reduction capabilities compared to the conventional ones. This study was conducted to analyze the economic effects on two-layered quiet asphalt pavement rather than on one-layered. Noise prediction was performed on the data surveyed from the two-layered quiet asphalt pavement. In addition, the economic analysis was executed considering cost benefits using the noise prediction result. The permeability test was also investigated to evaluate the clogging recovery of two-layered quiet asphalt pavement. Analysis results revealed that the construction cost of two-layered quiet asphalt pavements was cheaper than that of the conventional soundproof walls. The two-layered quiet asphalt pavement with simulated clogging conditions was satisfied the permeability requirements of the permeable asphalt pavements. The permeability test results showed that the permeable time was recorded as 6.77 seconds for one cycle of cleaning job with 400 mL of water.

  • The geomagnetic activity shows the semiannual variation stronger in vernal and autumnal equinoxes than in summer and winter solstices. The semiannual variation has been explained by three main hypotheses such as Axial hypothesis, Equinoctial hypothesis, and Russell-McPherron Effect. Many studies using the various geomagnetic indices have done to support three main hypotheses. In recent, Oh & Yi (2011) examined the solar magnetic polarity dependency of the geomagnetic storm occurrence defined by Dst index. They reported that there is no dependency of the semiannual variation on the sign of the solar polar fields. This study examines the solar magnetic polarity dependency of quiet time geomagnetic activity. Using Dxt index (Karinen & Mursula 2005) and Dcx index (Mursula & Karinen 2005) which are recently suggested, in addition to Dst index, we analyze the data of three-year at each solar minimum for eight solar cycles since 1932. As a result, the geomagnetic activity is stronger in the period that the solar magnetic polarity is anti-parallel with the Earth's magnetic polarity. There exists the difference between vernal and autumnal equinoxes regarding the solar magnetic polarity dependency. However, the difference is not statistically significant. Thus, we conclude that there is no solar magnetic polarity dependency of the semiannual variation for quiet time geomagnetic activity.

  • Background : The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency domain characteristics of ground reaction forces during quiet standing on inclined surfaces twenty healthy individuals(10 elderly women $68.78{\pm}3.29$ years and 10 young women $20.90{\pm}0.74$ years) participated. Methods : Subjects stood in quiet stance over a force platform positioned in one of three different fixed positions: flat, down and up. Healthy participants completed with eyes open for 120 s trials. Evaluation of postural control were generally based on the interpretation of center of pressure(COP) time series. The COP have been determined using an experimental setup with 3D kinematic and the ground reaction force system. All the data were expressed means and standard deviation by using SAS package program. Results : SEF 50% were not significant in AP and ML direction according to surface slope of both groups. SEF 95% were showed highest frequency in AP direction on down slope of both groups. MEF were not significant all direction according to surface slopes of elderly women. There was no difference between young and elderly women. Conclusion : Elderly women used to ankle strategy during a quiet stance according to COP perturbation of AP direction showed more expanded than ML direction. SEF 95% were showed highest frequency on down slope in elderly women who showed more used ankle strategy for postural control on down slope.

  • In this study, an effective echo-suppression and cancellation technique using reflectors in semi-anechoic chamber and time-domain measurement is proposed. By using the proposed technique, the uniformity of electric field in QZ(Quiet Zone) could be improved and the antenna test environments similar to the fully anechoic chamber could be accomplished. The performances of the proposed test environments is verified with the simulated and measured data. And it is demonstrated that this test environment is possible to use the measuring the radiational characteristics of a small antenna in VHF band.

  • This paper presents a modified filtered-x least mean square (FxLMS) algorithm to improve the stability of active noise control (ANC) system in realistic environment. A real-time ANC system employing modified FxLMS is designed and implemented on digital signal processor (DSP) board. The ANC system is evaluated for cancelling various tonal frequency noises in the range from 100 to 500 Hz and the performance is measured in terms of sound pressure level (SPL) attenuation. Experiment results show that a quiet zone with maximum 20 dB SPL attenuation can be generated around the location of error microphone.

  • This study, which works to develop a method of focusing on A Quiet Dream by Zhang Lu, explored the structural differences of films and the changes in Zhang Lu's aim and perspective as noted in films, by a review to grasp his internal changes in texts and contextual factors. In A Quiet Dream, Zhang Lu made a filmic attempt that had never been made in the world of films prior to that date. He tried an aesthetic experiment on how films could reorganize the world, by using the effect of obscuring the boundary between reality and dream in films and generating a new narrative regarding filmic reality, actual reality, and the life and artistic truth of the Diaspora. Generally speaking, the changes in the narrative in A Quiet Dream seem to be his resistance against himself and the Diaspora. Thus, in the discussion about A Quiet Dream, relying on the external factors intervening in the relationship between the subject of creation and films is not a useful endeavor at this time. Consequently, it is noted that after settling down in Korea, Zhang Lu could directly approach the changes in the cultural position of films in multilayered ways, where films were the most dynamic part of his life. Due to the changes in the Diaspora, he could obscure the boundary for the first time in the world of films and experiment with how films could escape develop an interesting perspective that deviated from reality, and made a new goal to show new ideas regarding the individual's awareness of the world.

  • Because of the small number of spacecraft available in the Earth's magnetosphere at any given time, it is not possible to obtain direct measurements of the fundamental quantities, such as the magnetic field and plasma density, with a spatial coverage necessary for studying, global magnetospheric phenomena. In such cases, empirical as well as physics-based models are proven to be extremely valuable. This requires not only having high fidelity and high accuracy models, but also knowing the weakness and strength of such models. In this study, we assess the accuracy of the widely used Tsyganenko magnetic field models, T96, T01, and T04, by comparing the calculated magnetic field with the ones measured in-situ by the GOES satellites during geomagnetically disturbed times. We first set the baseline accuracy of the models from a data-model comparison during the intervals of geomagnetically quiet times. During quiet times, we find that all three models exhibit a systematic error of about 10% in the magnetic field magnitude, while the error in the field vector direction is on average less than 1%. We then assess the model accuracy by a data-model comparison during twelve geomagnetic storm events. We find that the errors in both the magnitude and the direction are well maintained at the quiet-time level throughout the storm phase, except during the main phase of the storms in which the largest error can reach 15% on average, and exceed well over 70% in the worst case. Interestingly, the largest error occurs not at the Dst minimum but 2-3 hours before the minimum. Finally, the T96 model has consistently underperformed compared to the other models, likely due to the lack of computation for the effects of ring current. However, the T96 and T01 models are accurate enough for most of the time except for highly disturbed periods.

  • Several case studies reported that low-latitude Pi2 pulsations can occur under extremely quiet geomagnetic condition (Kp = 0) and that those are not associated with substorms. Until now, no statistical study has investigated Pi2 activity at low latitude during non-substorm intervals. In this study, we statistically examine the properties of Pi2 pulsations (i.e., Pi2 pulsation's power, frequency, and duration) observed at low-latitude Bohyun (BOH, L = 1.35) station in Korea. 161 Pi2s are identified during the intervals of extremely quiet geomagnetic conditions (Kp = 0-1) on November 2008. It is found that their frequencies increase as the solar wind speed increases. It is also found that the Pi2 pulsations frequently occurred periodically every ~30 min. Using solar wind data, we discuss what determines the 30-min recurrence time of Pi2 pulsations

  • To understand the basic physics underlying large spatial fluctuations of intensity and Doppler shift, we have investigated the dynamical charctersitics of the transition region of the quiet sun by analyzing a raster scan of high resolution UV spectral band containing H Lyman lines and a S VI line. The spectra were taken from a quiet area of $100'\times100'$ located near the disk center by SUMER on board SOHO. The spectral band ranges from 906 A to 950 A with spatial and spectral resolution of 1v and $0.044 {\AA}$, respectively. The parameters of individual spectral lines were determined from a single Gaussian fit to each spectral line. Then, spatial correlation analyses have been made among the line parameters. Important findings emerged from the present analysis are as follows. (1) The integrated intensity maps of the observed area of H I 931 line $(1\times10^4 K)$ and S VI 933 line $(2\times10^5 K)$ look very smilar to each other with the same characterstic size of 5". An important difference, however, is that the intensity ratio of brighter network regions to darker cell regions is much larger in S VI 933 line than that in H I 931 line. (2) Dynamical features represented by Doppler shifts and line widths are smaller than those features seen in intensity maps. The features are found to be changing rapidly with time within a time scale shorter than the integration time, 110 seconds, while the intensity structure remains nearly unchanged during the same time interval. (3) The line intensity of S VI is quite strongly correlated with that of H I lines, but the Doppler shift correlation between the two lines is not as strong as the intensity correlation. The correlation length of the intensity structure is found to be about 5.7' (4100 km), which is at least 3 times larger than that of the velocity structure. These findings support the notion that the basic unit of the transition region of the quiet sun is a loop-like structure with a size of a few $10^3 km$, within which a number of unresolved smaller velocity structures are present.
