Hot stamping, which is the hot pressing of special steel sheet using a cold die, can combine ease of shaping with high strength mechanical properties due to the hardening effect of rapid quenching. In this paper, a thermo-mechanical analysis of hot stamping using the finite element method in conjunction with phase transformations was performed in order to investigate the plastic deformation behavior, temperature history, and mechanical properties of the stamped car part. We also conducted a fully coupled thermo-mechanical analysis during the stamping and rapid quenching process to obtain the mechanical properties with the consideration of the effects of plastic deformation and phase transformation on the temperature histories at each point in the part. The finite element analysis could provide key information concerning the temperature histories and the sheet mechanical properties when the phase transformation is properly considered. Such an analysis can also be used to determine the effect of cyclic cooling on the tooling.
The effect of carbides on the tensile properties in 0.5C-17Cr-0.5Ni martensitic stainless steel was studied. With the increase of austenitizing temperature, the volume fraction of residual carbide was decreased rapidly. In tempered specimens after quenching, the volume fraction of total carbide was decreased with the increase of austenitizing temperature. In tempered specimens after quenching, strength was decrease and elongation was increased with the increase of austenitizing temperature. Tensile strength was increase and elongation was decreased with the increase of volume fraction of residual and total carbides. With the increase of austenitizing temperature, the tensile properties of mod. 0.5C-17Cr-0.5Ni martensitic stainless was affected greatly by residual carbide than tempered carbide.
Using a squash plant, a chilling-sensitive species, and a spinach plant, a chilling-resistant one, effects of chilling temperature on the photosynthetic machinery were studied in terms of chlorophyll fluorescence. When thylakoid membranes were isolated and subjected to incubation at different temperatures, spinach showed stable photosystem II activity at the low temperature side, in contrast to squash which showed quite severe inactivation at low temperature. When parameters of chlorophyll fluorescence were examined, chilling in darkness did not affect either Fv/Fm or photochemical and non-photochemical quenching, in both types of plants. However, chilling of squash plants under irradiance of medium intensity caused a specific decrease in Fv/Fm accompanied by a decline in energy-dependent quenching. Contrastingly, photosystem li of spinach plants were not much affected by light-chilling. When the pool size of zeaxanthin was examined after exposure to high light at different temperatures, squash plants was shown to have a much lower content of antheraxanthin + zeaxanthin, as compared to spinach plants, during low-temperature photoinhibition. These results suggest that chilling-sensitive plants have low capacity to dissipate excitation energy nonradiatively, when they are exposed to low-temperature photoinhibition, and, as a consequence, more vulnerable to photoinhibitory, damage to the photosynthetic apparatus.

The quenching of steels by water is one of the important problems in engineering for the applications of heat treatment or continuous casting process, but the fundamental researches by the theoretical approaches have not been satisfactorily improved yet. The very rapid cooling problems by the thermal conduction including the latent heat of phase transformation in steel and the transient boiling heat transfer of water on the surface of the steel covering from $850^{\circ}C$ to $20^{\circ}C$ are the key problems of heat treatment. The present quenching experiments are performed for the cylindrical specimens of carbon steel, S45C of diameters (12-30). Nonlinear transient heat conduction and transient boiling heat transfer problem of water on the surface of specimens is analyzed by the numerical method of inverse heat conduction problem. The conditions for the calculation are that the initial temperature of specimens is $820^{\circ}C$ and the cooling water in bath are $20^{\circ}C$,$40^{\circ}C$,$60^{\circ}C$,$80^{\circ}C$,$95^{\circ}C$ with no agitation.
The study is diagnosis about fatigue failure phenomenon of heating coil spring (sup9) and heat treatment method that is used to crusher. Because more than 80~90% of damage announcement of breakdown of machine and construction is been caused in fatigue present state, fatigue failure became important leading person at design. Calculated design load is imposed repeatedly that fatigue breakdown is safe. Is phenomenon that change load is imposed in the construction continuously. Used coil spring applies heat 30minute by Quenching temperature $860^{\circ}C$ if see manufacturing process and temperature of gasoline of $50^{\circ}C$ keep after quench that know tempering a $460^{\circ}C$ 90minute a product be. If doto apply heat $950^{\circ}C$ material at rolling process historically before quenching, austenite formation clay pipe being done AGS(Austenite Grain Size) by 2.5~4 become. Apply heat quenching 30minute by $820^{\circ}C$ by improvement method and after quench that keep $50^{\circ}C$ in oil tempering if do $450^{\circ}C$, 90minute spring ideal formation sorbite formation of the river form and condition that satisfy most more than AGS 7 appeared. Also, we can secure authoritativeness through MT since shot peening processing.
The Quenching and Self Tempering (QST) rolling is treated in terms of an advance process on Controlled Rolling and Cooling Technology (CRCT). In the analysis, the effect of this process is governed by both quenching and finishing conditions in the related with temperature. The objective of the QST model is to simulate the temperature gradient of the stock being rolled in the rolling mill. A comparison of computer simulated and manufactured micro structure as well as mechanical properties shows a good consistency. The micro structure of this high-strength round bar consists of tempered martensite and ferrite + pearlite phases.
This thesis is to improve the mechanical properties of carbon steel by the ion-nitriding, and post-heat treatment. The structures of ion-nitrided SM45C steel were changed to martensite by quenching from 730.deg. C and 800.deg. C. And then a few of the quenched specimens was tempered at 200.deg. C for 120 min. The emphasis in this study is focussed on Comparison of hardness and fatigue strength with the ion-nitrided steel. The results obtained are summerized as follows. 1. To improve the hardness and fatigue strength of ion-nitrided steels, it is effective to under take diffusion treatment for a short time at the austenite temperature(800.deg. C). 2. If ion-nitrided steel is heated for a long time at high temperature, de-nitriding occure. 3. The quenching treatment after nitriding on the carbon steel is necessary to improve the mechanical properties of the steels.
New green-emitting Sr4ScAl3O10:Eu2+ phosphor was prepared using a novel melt quenching synthesis method. The temperature of raw materials irradiated with the strong light of the Xe arc-lamp was rose up to about 2273 K, followed by a sharp drop in the temperature after turn off the lamp. This method is a useful tool for rapid screening of novel phosphor materials.
Physical properties of carbon nanomaterials are dependent on their nanostructures and they are modified by diverse synthesis methods. Among them, thermal plasma method stands out for synthesizing carbon nanomaterials by controlling chemical and physical reactions through various design and operating conditions such as plasma torch type, plasma gas composition, power capacity, raw material injection rate, quenching rate, kinds of precursors, and so on. The method enables the production of carbon nanomaterials with various nanostructures and characteristics. The high-energy integration at high-temperature region thermal plasma to the precursor is possible to completely vaporize precursors, and the vaporized materials are rapidly condensed to the nanomaterials due to the rapid quenching rate by sharp temperature gradient. The synthesized nanomaterials are averagely in several nanometers to 100 nm scale. Especially, the thermal plasma was validated to synthesize low-dimensional carbon nanomaterials, carbon nanotubes and graphene, which hold immense promise for future applications.
The effect of tempering temperature on the ultrasonic propagation velocity at SCM 440 steel quenched from $870^{\circ}C$ and $1000^{\circ}C$ has been studied by metallurgical and crystallographical observation. The measurements of ultrasonic velocity were made on the specimen by appling an immersion ultrasonic pulse-echo technique with a constant frequency of 10 MHz. The quenched microstructure of this steel was a lath martensite. As the tempering temperature was increased, the martensite was transformed into the tempered martensite composed of cementite and carbide. The ultrasonic velocity increased with increasing the tempering temperature. It was thought that these were resulted from the microstructural transformation. The change of ultrasonic propagation velocity with quenching and tempering heat treatment was resulted from microstrain due to the change of internal stress. Considering these results concerning to the change of ultrasonic propagation velocity. the phenomena of microstructural transformation were estimated. Consequently, it was thought that the degree of quenching and tempered heat treatment of steel could be nondestructively evaluated with the change of ultrasonic propagation velocity.
