NO EXCESS OF STAR FORMATION IN THE z = 1.4 STRUCTURE: Hα OBSERVATIONS OF THE RADIO-LOUD AGN 6CE1100+3505 FIELD

  • We present the results of near-infrared imaging observations of the galaxy overdensity around the z = 1.44 radio-loud active galactic nucleus (AGN) 6CE1100+3505, which was carried out with the purpose of sampling the redshifted Hα emission from the actively star-forming galaxies that could constitute the overdensity. The existence of the structure around this AGN was spectroscopically confirmed by previous grism observations which are however limited to the central region. Using the CH4Off narrow/medium-band and H broad band filters in the Wide Infrared Camera (WIRCam) on the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT), we constructed a sample of objects that show a flux excess in the CH4Off band due to line emission. The emission line flux is ~ 4.9 × 10-16 erg s-1 cm-2, corresponding to a star formation rate (SFR) of ~ 50 M yr-1 for galaxies at redshifts z ~ 1.4. None of the galaxies with medium-band flux excess is located within 1 Mpc from the central AGN, and there is no evidence that the selected galaxies are associated with the proposed cluster. Along with the star formation quenching near the center that was found from the previous grism observations, the lack of extreme starbursts in the structure suggests that at z ~ 1.4, overdense regions are no longer favorable locations for vigorous star formation.

  • Nucleation and crystallization of $\beta$-eucryptite in a glass of molecular percentage composition Li2O.Al2O3.2SiO2 are studied. The glasses are made by quenching of the melts from 143$0^{\circ}C$ to room temperature. Heat-treatment for nucleation and crystal growth are caried out at various temperature in the range between 50$0^{\circ}C$ and 80$0^{\circ}C$ with different duration of time. The amounts of crystallization are estimated by the method of x-ray powder diffraction. As the results a time-temperature-transformation relation for crystallization is derived. The maximum rate of crystallization is observed at about 75$0^{\circ}C$ from the T-T-T-curve while the crystallization temperature is detected at 67$0^{\circ}C$ by DTA measurement. The crystallization temperature moved to 62$0^{\circ}C$ by adding 5 weight percents of TiO2 and it moved to 78$0^{\circ}C$ by adding 2 weight percents of V2O5. The crystallization temperature moved to 62$0^{\circ}C$ by adding 5 weight percent of TiO2 it moved to 78$0^{\circ}C$ by adding 2 weight percents of V2O5 The activation energy for crystallization from the pure glass is calculated as 68 Kcal/mol and it varied to 53 Kcal/mol and 110Kcal/mol when 5 weight percents of TiO2 and weight percents of V2O5 are added respectively.

오이 잎에서 저온 광저해에 의한 형광유도과정의 초기 변이와 스트레스 지표 (Early Alterations of Chlorophyll Fluorescence by Light-Chilling in Cucumber (Cucumis sativus) Leaves and Their Usage as Stress Indicators)

  • To investigate the early symptoms of light-chilling, alterations of chlorophyll fluorescence transients were monitored in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L. cv. Ilmichungjang) leaves. During 24 h chilling, decreases in (Fv)m/Fm, qE and qQ, and an increase in Fo were observed. The chilling effects were not recovered at room temperature, and a significant increase in Fo was observed during the recovery period. After 6 h chilling, ‘dip’(D) level of the transients became obscure, and the negative slope after ‘peak’(P) disappeared. The first derivative (dFv/dt) of the fast fluorescence rise curve was used to obtain more accurate information about the changes in the transients. The maximal rate of the fluorescence increase in the D-p rise curve (Fr) has been the most frequently used chilling stress indicator. However, a correct value of Fr could not be measured when the D level became obscure. This problem was overcome by introducing a new indicator, HFr (dFv/dt at Fv = 1/2 (Fv)m), and HFr gave very similar values to Fr. To monitor the changes in curvature around D level, another new parameter, ${\Delta}S$(D-Fr), was also introduced. These three parameters decreased very sensitively during light-chilling. In addition, increases in these parameters were observed during the first 2 h chilling, but this increase in Fr was also observed in pea leaf discs dark-chilled for 15 min, suggesting that this very early change is a common response to chilling in both pea and cucumber leaves. Quenching coefficients were also very sensitive to chilling, especially qE. Discussion on the usage of these parameters as chilling stress indicators is given in the text.

YBCO 초전도체 Bulk 소재에 대한 자기적 특성 (Magnetic Properties of YBCO Superconductor Bulk Materials)

  • Relatively pure YBCO was first synthesized by heating a mixture of metal carbonates at temperatures between 1,000 and 1,300 K, resulting in the reaction: 4BaCO3+Y2(CO3)3+6CuCO3+(1/2-x)O2 → 2YBa2Cu3O7-x+1/3CO2. Modern syntheses of YBCO use the corresponding oxides and nitrates. The superconducting properties of YBa2Cu3O7-x are sensitive to the value of x, i.e., its oxygen content. Only those materials with 0≤x≤0.65 are superconducting below Tc, and when x ~ 0.07, the material superconducts at the highest temperature, i.e., 95 K, or in the highest magnetic fields, i.e., 120 T and 250 T when B is perpendicular and parallel to the CuO2 planes, respectively. In addition to being sensitive to the stoichiometry of oxygen, the properties of YBCO are influenced by the crystallization methods applied. YBCO is a crystalline material, and the best superconductive properties are obtained when crystal grain boundaries are aligned by careful control of annealing and quenching temperature rates. However, these alternative methods still require careful sintering to produce a quality product. New possibilities have arisen since the discovery of trifluoroacetic acid, a source of fluorine that prevents the formation of undesired barium carbonate (BaCO3). This route lowers the temperature necessary to obtain the correct phase at around 700℃. This, together with the lack of dependence on vacuum, makes this method a very promising way to achieve a scalable YBCO bulk.

Effects of Chlorpromazine·HCl on the Structural Parameters of Bovine Brain Membranes

  • Fluorescence probes located in different membrane regions were used to evaluate the effects of chlorpromazine HCl on structural parameters (transbilayer lateral mobility, annular lipid fluidity, protein distribution, and lipid bilayer thickness) of synaptosomal plasma membrane vesicles (SPMVs) isolated from bovine cerebral cortex. The experimental procedure was based on the selective quenching of 1,3-di(1-pyrenyl)propane (Py-3-Py) by trinitrophenyl groups, radiationless energy transfer from the tryptophan of membrane proteins to Py-3-Py, and energy transfer from Py-3-Py monomers to 1-anilinonaphthalene-8-sulfonic acid (ANS). In this study, chlorpromazine HCl decreased the lateral mobility of Py-3-Py in a concentration dependent-manner, showed a greater ordering effect on the inner monolayer than on the outer monolayer, decreased annular lipid fluidity in a dose dependent-manner, and contracted the membrane lipid bilayer. Furthermore, the drug was found to have a clustering effect on membrane proteins.

현무암의 용융특성과 연속섬유 방사 연구 (Studies on the Melting Characterization of Basalt and its Continuous Fiber Spinning)

  • 제주도 표선리 현무암 원광을 이용하여 연속 방사에 의해 현무암 섬유를 제조하였다. 먼저 현무암의 용융특성을 확인하기 위하여 현무암 원광을 백금도가니에 넣고 $1550^{\circ}C$로 용융시킨 후, 물속에서 급냉하였다. 냉각한 후 X-선 회절, 열팽창, 고온 점도, 고온 전기전도도와 고온 현미경을 측정 분석하여 연속방사 조건을 조사하였다. 연속 섬유를 제조하기 위한 최적의 방사 온도와 고온 점도는 각각 $1264^{\circ}C$$10^{2.8}$ poise이었다. 제조된 방사 섬유의 특성은 인장강도, 전자현미경 관찰, 내열시험 등으로 확인하였다. 부싱 온도 $1240^{\circ}C$와 와인더 속도 4600rpm의 방사 조건에서 제조된 섬유의 인장 강도는 3660MPa을 나타내었다.

Pressure Sensitive Paint의 성능비교 및 경사충돌분류의 압력장 측정 (Performance Comparison of Pressure Sensitive Paint and Pressure Field Measurement of Oblique Impinging Jet)

  • The pressure sensitive paint (PSP) has recently received a considerable attention in the fields of aerodynamics and fluid mechanics as a new revolutionary optical technique to measure pressure fields on a body surface. In this study, the feasibility and effectiveness of the PSP pressure field measurement technique have been investigated experimentally. Seven different PSP formulations including two porphyrins(PtOEP and PtTFPP) and four polymers(Polystyrene, cellulous acetate butyrate, GP-197 and Silicon-708) were tested to check the performance and characteristics of each combination. The static calibration of each PSP formulation was carried out in a constant-pressure chamber. The PSP technique was applied to an oblique impinging jet flow to measure variation of pressure field on the impinging plate at on oblique jet angle of ${\theta}=60^{\circ}$. Pressure field images were captured by an 12bit intensified CCD(ICCD, $1K{\times}1K$)camera. As a result, the dynamic response of PSP depends on the oxygen permeability of polymer and the photochemical interaction between luminophore and polymer as well as the reaction of luminophore itself. The reaction of luminophore was changed by employing different polymers. In conclusion, Among 7 PSP formulation tested, the combination of PtTFPP and cellulous acetate butyrate show the best performance. In addition, the detail pressure field of an oblique high-speed impinging jet was measured effectively using the PSP technique.

SiCp입자강화 Al 복합재료에 대한 합금원소의 영향과 시효특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Ageing Characteristics and Alloy Elements of SiCp Reinforced Al Matrix Composites)

  • The research on new DRA(discontinuous reinforced alloy) and CRA(continous reinforced alloy) composites has been carried out to improve the properties of ceramic fiber and particle reinforced metal matrix composites(MMCs). Effects of alloying elements and aging conditions on the microstructures and aging behavior of Al-Si-Cu-Mg-(Ni)-SiCp composite have been examined. The specimens used in this study were manufactured by duplex process. The first squeeze casting is the process to make precomposite and the second squeeze casting is the process to make final composite. The hardening behavior was accelerated with decreasing the size of SiCp particle in the composites. It is considered that the dislocation density increased with increasing SiCp size, due to the different thermal deformation between Al matrix and SiCp during quenching after the solution treatment. Peak aging time to obtain the maximum hardness in 3 ${\mu}m$ SiCp reinforced Al composite was reduced than that in large size(5, 10 ${\mu}m$) of SiCp because of difference in dislocation density. Aging hardening responce(${\Delta}H$ = $H_{Max}.-H_{S.T}$) of composites was greater than that of unreinforced Al alloy because of higher density of second phases in matrix.

고크롬 주철의 기계적 특성에 미치는 열처리 영향 (The Effects of Heat-treatment on the Mechanical Properties of High Chromium Cast Irons)

  • Mechanical characteristics of Hi-Cr cast irons containing 16.8%Cr and 3.0%C were studied with various heat treatments. After as-cast Y-block ingots were annealed fully, the ingots were machined into cylinderical specimens with the size of 9mm in diameter and 20mm in length in order to investigate the effect of heat-treatments on mechanical characteristics of high Cr cast irons. All specimens were heat-treated by quenching- tempering, austempering and cyclic heat at the various temperatures(950, 1000, 1050 and $1100^{\circ}C$) respectively. The wear amount was measured for each heat-treated specimens against the counterpart of a hardened SKD11 steel at the following conditions; wearing velocity: 0.7 m/s, load: 100N and sliding distance: 70 km. After as-cast specimens were annealed, fine $M_{3}C$ carbides were formed, which affected the hardness and the wear resistance of Hi-Cr specimens. High hardness and good wear resistance were appeared on the specimens treated at 950 and $1000^{\circ}C$ and the austempered specimens show excellent wear resistance as well as high hardness.

녹색 인광 유기발광다이오드에서 전하 조절층의 두께 변화가 성능에 미치는 효과에 대한 연구 (Effect of Changing the Thickness of Charge Control Layer on Performance of Green Phosphorescent Organic Light-Emitting Diodes)

  • 본 연구에서는 전하 조절층을 이용하여 녹색 인광 유기발광다이오드의 효율의 향상을 나타냈다. 양극성의 4,4,N,N'-dicarbazolebiphenyl (CBP)를 호스트와 전하 조절층으로 사용하여 발광층 내에서 전하의 이동을 원활하게 할 수 있다. 게다가 전하 조절층의 삽입으로 엑시톤을 효과적으로 발광층 내에 제한하여, 삼중항-삼중항 소멸 현상을 억제할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 발광층의 전체 두께는 유지하고, 전하 조절층의 변화를 준 다섯 개의 소자를 제작하여 최적화된 전하 조절층의 두께를 이용한 Device D는 외부 양자 효율 16.22%와 휘도 효율 55.76 cd/A의 성능을 보였다.
