Micro fluid channels are machined on quartz glass using powder blasting, and the machining characteristics of the channels are experimentally evaluated. The powder blasting process parameters such as injection pressure, abrasive particle size and density, stand-off distance, number of nozzle scanning, and shape/size of the required patterns affect machining results. In this study, the influence of the number of nozzle scanning, abrasive particle size, and blasting pressure on the formation of micro channels is investigated. Machined shapes and surface roughness are measured, and the results are discussed. Through the experiments and analysis, LOC are ettectinely machined on quartz glass using powder blasting.
An air/quartz dielectric double barrier pulse discharge has been investigated to develop a novel si lent type ozone generator. It is found that there are very active pulsed coronas occurred in the airgap which are very useful for ozone generation. And, the corona onset voltage of the airgap of the air/quartz double barrier was enfluenced greatly by the airgap of the air/quartz dielectric double barrier, and depended greatly upon the airgap ranged of $0.0{\sim}3.0mm$ and by the quartz tube thickness ranged of $1.75{\sim}2.25mm$.
The study is on petrology and petrochemistry of Pajoo Acidic Igneous pluton which intruded into Precambrian metasediments of basement of the area. The geologic sequence of studied area was shown in table 1 and 10 modal analyses and 7 chemical analyses on the rock samples taken from the body. Pajoo Acidic Igneous rock consist of hypersthene-quartz-diorite and porphyritic adamellite which based on the classification of the subcommision on systematics of igneous rocks of IUGS. And porphyritic adamellite which occured as a small stock was intruded into hypersthene quartz diorite. The rock forming minerals of hypersthene quartz diorite are composed of plagioclase, perthite, quartz, hypersthene, hornblende, biotite and porphyritic adamellite is composed of perthite, quartz, plagioclase and biotite. And the former is hypidiomorphic granular texture and later is porphyritic texture with microcline phenocrysts. In silica-oxides variation diagram, the Pajoo acidic igneous rocks are similar to the trend of Daly's average composition and equivalent to the calc-alkalic rock series. In AMF diagram, these rocks are stock of fissure filling vein type by cooling in magmatic differentiation.

In this paper, we present reusable quartz master fabricated by electron-beam lithography and dry etching process of quartz, and results of injection molding based on the reusable quartz master for the manufacturing of nano-scale information media. Since patterned structures of photoresist can be easily damaged by separation (demolding) process of nickel stamper and master, a master with photoresist cannot be reused in stamper fabrication process. In this work, we have made it possible of the repeated use of master by directly patterning on quart in nickel stamper fabrication process. We have designed and fabricated four different specimens including 100nm, 140nm 200nm and 400nm pit patterns. In addition, both intaglio and embossed carving patterns are fabricated for each specimen. In the preliminary test of injection molding, we have fabricated polycarbonate patterns with varying mold temperature. We have experimentally verified the fabrication process of the reusable quart master and possibility of quartz master as direct stamper.
Geoje copper ore deposits are fissure filled copper veins which developed in late Cretaceous pyroclastics, andesite and shale. Mineral paragenesis reveals a division of the hydrothermal mineralization into three stages: Stage I, deposition of pyrite, magnetite, specularite, quartz and chlorite; Stage II, deposition of chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena, tetrahedrite, aikinite, cosalite, electrum, quartz and chlorite; Stage III, deposition of barren calcite. Filling temperatures of fluid inclusions in quartz of stage I range from 171 to $282^{\circ}C$ whereas fluid inclusions in quartz and sphalerite of stage II range from 213 to $262^{\circ}C$ and from 186 to $301^{\circ}C$ respectively. Salinities of fluid inclusions in quartz of stage I range from 5.2 to 11.2 weight percent equivalent to NaCl. Salinities of fluid inclusions in quartz and sphalerite of stage II range from 6.6 to 10.9 and from 7.1 to 14.4 weight percent equivalent NaCl. Salinities of ore fluid during major mineralization stage in this deposits reveal nearly the same ranges as those of many copper deposits in Koseong copper mining district which located about 30km apart from Geoje mine. But filling temperatures of fluid inclusions formed during major copper mineralization stage in this deposits show slightly lower than those of copper deposits in Koseong copper mining district.
Deep geological disposal is the preferred storage method for high-level radioactive waste, because it ensures stable long-term storage with minimal potential for human disruption. Because of the risk of groundwater contamination, a buffer of steel and bentonite layers has been proposed to prevent the leaching of radionuclides into groundwater. Quartz is one of the most common minerals in earth's crust. To understand how deformation and dissolution phenomena affect waste disposal, here we study quartz samples at pressure, temperature, and pH conditions typical of deep geological disposal sites. We perform a dissolution experiment for single quartz crystals under different pressure and temperature conditions. Solution samples are collected and the dissolution rate is calculated by analyzing Si concentrations in a solution excited by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). After completing the dissolution experiment, deformation of the quartz sample surfaces is investigated with a confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM). An empirical formula is introduced that describes the relationship between dissolution rate, pressure, and temperature. These results suggest that bentonite layers in engineering barrier systems may be vulnerable to thermal deformation, even when exposed to higher temperatures on relatively short timescales.
Eonyang amethyst deposits are thought to be spatially and temporally associated with the biotite granite of the Kyeongsang Basin. The examined euhedral quartz crystals in cavities in the aplite intruded biotite granite are colored-zoned from white at the base to amethystine at the tops. Three types of primary Inclusions were observed and three is representing each types are constructed to constrain the trapping conditions and fluid evolution involved during the formation of the amethyst. The intersection of the isochore representing the early fluid inclusions with solidus temperature of the host granite indicates initial quartz formation at about $600^{\circ}C$ and 1.0-1.5 kbars . Intermediate quartz formation, associated with the high-salinity inclusions, occurred at somewhat lower temperatures ($400^{circ}c$) and pressures of about 1 kbar. The amethystine quartz formed from $H_2O$-$CO_2$-NaCl fluids at temperatures between 280-$400^{circ}c$ and pressures of about 1 kbar. Early quartz is interpreted to have formed from fluids that either exsolved from or were in equilibrium with the granite at near solidus conditions, whereas the amethystine quartz apparently grew from fluids of at least partial sedimentary origin.

This investigation reports the grinding characteristics of quartz. Grinding experiments were performed at various grinding conditions including wheel mesh, table speed and depth of cut. The grinding forces and specific grinding energies were measured to compare the grindability of quartz with those of structural ceramics such as A1$_2$O$_3$, SiC, Si$_3$N$_4$ and ZrO$_2$. Surface roughness was also measured with tracer and the ground surfaces were observed with SEM. The chip formation energy of quartz was about 6J/㎣, which is quite smaller than those of structural ceramics. Although plastic flows are occured in Si$_3$N$_4$ and ZrO$_2$, micro/macro cracks are occured in ground surface of quartz like in A1$_2$O$_3$ and SiC.

In this paper, we proposed a method to shift the resonant frequency by applying the electric field to microstrip patch antenna using piezoelectric substrates. We fabricated microstrip patch antenna using Y-cut LiNbO3, Quartz and FR-4 substrates. We designed and simulated the microstrip antennas by Ensemble V 7.0 of the simulation too1. We observed the resonant frequency by DC applied electric field in a microstrip patch antenna. When the electric field was 300 V/mm, the resonant frequency agile of Y-cut LiNbO3 microstrip patch antennas were 29 MHz. When the electric field was 400 V/mm, the frequency agile of X-cut, Y-cut and Z-cut quartz microstrip patch antennas were 55.2 MHz, 34.2 MHz and 28.0 MHz, respectively. However, when the electric field was 400 V/mm, the resonant frequency of FR-4 microstrip patch antenna does not changed. It was shown that the resonant frequency agile of Y-cut and Z-cut quartz microstrip patch antennas are due to piezoelectric phenomenon not to be permittivity.

Amethyst is a precious stone in Korea. As natural quartz are usually mixed with smoky quartz, amethyst, and milky quartz, we need to evaluate the amount of the amethyst quantitatively in ores. Although the optical evaluation with bare eyes has been common in assay so far, we propose that the diamagnetic property and microstructural difference characterization be the solution for the evaluating the quartz ores. In addition, FTIR (Fourier transformation infra-red) could help to identify the amethyst transparency. We report that we could evaluate the amethyst quantitatively with M-H hysteresis characterization, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation and FTIR characterization.
