The purpose of this paper is to help those who research and develop solar cells in university laboratories and industrial sites understand the most basic and important quantum efficiency measurement and analysis method in analyzing solar cell performance. Starting with the definition of quantum efficiency, we calculate the theoretical current density according to the band gap of the solar cell material from the solar spectrum, along with a detailed introduction to the measurement and analysis methods, and measure and analyze the theoretical current density and quantum efficiency. We discuss in depth how to analyze the performance of solar cells through Quantum efficiency measurement and analysis of solar cells is a very useful method that can give intuition to solar cell performance analysis as it can analyze solar cells according to depth (front emitter, bulk, rear surface). Students and researchers who study solar cells with a deep understanding of theoretical current density and quantum efficiency measurement analysis are expected to use it as a basis for analyzing solar cell performance.

We demonstrate the blue InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with an embedded air-gap photonic crystal (PC) which was fabricated by the lateral epitaxial overgrowth of GaN layer on the tungsten (W) nano-masks. The periodic air-gap PC was formed by the chemical reaction of hydrogen with GaN on the W nano-mask. The optical output power of LEDs with an air-gap PC was increased by 26% compared to LEDs without an air-gap PC. The enhanced optical output power was attributed to the improvement in internal quantum efficiency and light extraction efficiency by the air-gap PC embedded in GaN layer.
We investigate the temperature dependence of efficiency droop in InGaN/GaN multiple-quantum-well (MQW) blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in the temperature range from 20 to $80^{\circ}C$. When the external quantum efficiency (EQE) and the wall-plug efficiency (WPE) of the LED sample were measured as injection current and temperature varied, the droop of EQE and WPE was found to be reduced with increasing temperature. As the temperature increased from 20 to $80^{\circ}C$, the droop ratio of EQE was decreased from 16% to 14%. This reduction in efficiency droop with temperature can be interpreted by a temperature-dependent carrier distribution in the MQWs. When the carrier distribution and radiative recombination rate in MQWs were simulated and compared for different temperatures, the carrier distribution was found to become increasingly homogeneous as the temperature increased, which is believed to partly contribute to the reduction in efficiency droop with increasing temperature.

We present a simulation method to design antireflection coating (ARCs) for fiber-coupled superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors. Using a finite-element method, the absorptance of the nanowire is calculated for a defined unit-cell structure consisting of a fiber, ARC layer, nanowire absorber, distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) mirror, and air gap. We develop a method to evaluate the uncertainty in absorptance due to the uncontrollable parameter of air-gap distance. The validity of the simulation method is tested by comparison to an experimental realization for a case of single-layer ARC, which results in good agreement. We show finally a double-layer ARC design optimized for a system detection efficiency of higher than 95%, with a reduced uncertainty due to the air-gap distance.

In this paper, the output characteristics of GaN-based LED considering quantum well structure are analyzed. The basic structure of the LED consists of active region of GaN barrier and InGaN quantum well between AlGaN EBL(Electron Blocking Layer) and AlGaN HBL(Hole Blocking Layer) on GaN buffer layer. The output power, internal quantum efficiency characteristics of LED active region considering thickness of quantum well, number of quantum well and doping of barrier are analyzed using ISE-TCAD.
We studied quantum cryptography based on the quantum nature of light. We must reduce the intensity of the light pulse to the single photon regime for quantum cryptographic communication. Considering the noise and the quantum efficiency of the detector, however, we have to fmd a criterion for which we are able to distinguish the error caused by eavesdropping from other system noises. By changing the bias voltage of the detector and the threshold of the signal voltage, we find the safe region for which we can distribute the quantum key with positive proof of no-eavesdropping. The quantum key we used is a four state quantum key (BB84). BB84).

This paper proposes a new passive type LED driver which satisfies the standard of power factor (PF) and total harmonic distortion (THD). The proposed passive LED driver also has high-efficiency and long-life time characteristics compared to active LED driver which is composed of op-amp, switches and so on. By using just passive components such as inductor, capacitor, and diode, it has resolved extremely short-life time and low-efficiency problems of previous LED drivers. It has achieved PF of 0.99, THD of 16.4 %, and the total efficiency of 95 %. The proposed passive LED driver is fully analyzed and verified by simulations and experiments, which results are in good agreement each other.

Recently, InGaN/GaN multi-quantum well grown on GaN pyramid structures have attracted much attention due to their hybrid characteristics of quantum well, quantum wire, and quantum dot. This gives us broad band emission which will be useful for phosphor-free white light emitting diode. On the other hand, by using quantum dot emission on top of the pyramid, site selective single photon source could be realized. However, these structures still have several limitations for the single photon source. For instance, the quantum efficiency of quantum dot emission should be improved further. As detection systems have limited numerical aperture, collection efficiency is also important issue. It has been known that micro-cavities can be utilized to modify the radiative decay rate and to control the radiation pattern of quantum dot. Researchers have also been interested in nano-cavities using localized surface plasmon. Although the plasmonic cavities have small quality factor due to high loss of metal, it could have small mode volume because plasmonic wavelength is much smaller than the wavelength in the dielectric cavities. In this work, we used localized surface plasmon to improve efficiency of InGaN qunatum dot as a single photon emitter. We could easily get the localized surface plasmon mode after deposit the metal thin film because lnGaN/GaN multi quantum well has the pyramidal geometry. With numerical simulation (i.e., Finite Difference Time Domain method), we observed highly enhanced decay rate and modified radiation pattern. To confirm these localized surface plasmon effect experimentally, we deposited metal thin films on InGaN/GaN pyramid structures using e-beam deposition. Then, photoluminescence and time-resolved photoluminescence were carried out to measure the improvement of radiative decay rate (Purcell factor). By carrying out cathodoluminescence (CL) experiments, spatial-resolved CL images could also be obtained. As we mentioned before, collection efficiency is also important issue to make an efficient single photon emitter. To confirm the radiation pattern of quantum dot, Fourier optics system was used to capture the angular property of emission. We believe that highly focused localized surface plasmon around site-selective InGaN quantum dot could be a feasible single photon emitter.

Luminescence characteristics of Ag-doped ZnO as the quantum dot materials to increasing the efficiency on dye-sensitized solar cells (DSC) have been studied. Ag doped ZnO powder was produced by the self-sustaining combustion process using ultrasonic spraying heating method. Luminescence wavelength region of the ZnO by Ag doping was shifted to longer wavelength. Tn the case of the Ag doped ZnO powder, broad luminescence spectrum centered on 600nm was observed. On the other hand, we compared PL data of RTA treated ZnO:Ag film at various temperatures because the front electrode of solar cell was in need of the sintering process. In XRD and PL data for RTA treated film at the 500$^{\circ}C$ showed good property. And, it was found that the grain size wasn't growing but only optical property was changed. According to the result of XRD, PL, absorption, emission spectrum and DV-X${\alpha}$ used in theoretical calculation, it is considered to be possible to use Ag doped ZnO as quantum dot material for improving DSC efficiency.
