  • As a result of human's behaviour, ecosystem services are declining in present. This impact of the reason is turning back to human lives. In order to realize relationship between these ecosystems and humans, it is important that we take education about ecosystem. This study identified the components and services of the forest ecosystem which accounts for 64% of Korea's land. The forest ecosystem has various benefits called the ecosystem service. The purpose of this study is to realize the value and importance of forest ecosystem through the quantification of ecosystem components and services. Therefore, we identify the organic relationship of the ecosystem by System ecology. This study of quantitative, systemic and scientific approach will be a way for promoting the importance of the forest ecosystem.

  • Purpose This study was carried out ro apply the knowledge of bioinformatics to the quantification of constitutional information. Methods To objectify consitirutional knowledge, several uselful methods including Bayesian estimate, position specific score matrix, entropy, phylogenetic tree, simulated annealing were discussed. Results and Conclusion It is obvious that bioinformatic methods can be the most important tool for the objectification of constitutional medicine.

A Study on the Quantification of Information Security Level (정보보안수준 계량화 연구)

  • This study presents an information security level index and a quantification scheme. A comprehensive survey on previous researches in information security checklists has been performed. A candidate indicator list for information security level has been developed, Desirability of each indicator has been tested by 4 criteria, They are general validity, relative importance, probability of accident and impact of accident. 67 experts' opinion has been collected and analysed. The result shows that selected indicators are a very good candidate set for the determination of information security level. A factor analysis shows indicators are well structured. There exists strong correlation between validity and probability, validity and impact, and importance and probability. A quantification scheme of information security index has been developed by experts' judgement and statistical tests.

Quantification of Allantoin in Yams (Dioscorea sp.) Using a 1H NMR Spectroscopic Method

  • Allantoin is an abundant component of yams and has been known as a skin protectant due to its pharmacological activities. In previous methods for allantoin determination using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), the separation was unsatisfactory. We herein developed a 1H quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance (qNMR) method for quantification of allantoin in the flesh and peel of yams. The method was carried out based on the relative ratio of signals integration of allantoin to a certain amount of the internal standard dimethyl sulfone (DMSO2) and validated in terms of specificity, linearity (range 62.5-2000 ㎍/ml), sensitivity (limit of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) 4.63 and 14.03 ㎍/ml, respectively), precision (RSD% 0.02-0.26), and recovery (86.35-92.11%). The method was then applied for the evaluation of allantoin in flesh and peel extracts of four different yams cultivated in Korea.

A fast and simplified crack width quantification method via deep Q learning

  • Crack width is an important indicator to evaluate the health condition of the concrete structure. The crack width is measured by manual using crack width gauge commonly, which is time-consuming and laborious. In this paper, we have proposed a fast and simplified crack width quantification method via deep Q learning and geometric calculation. Firstly, the crack edge is extracted by using U-Net network and edge detection operator. Then, the intelligent decision of is made by the deep Q learning model. Further, the geometric calculation method based on endpoint and curvature extreme point detection is proposed. Finally, a case study is carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, achieving high precision in the real crack width quantification.

Optimal filter materials for protist quantification via droplet digital PCR

  • The use of droplet digital polymerase chain reaction (ddPCR) has greatly improved the quantification of harmful protists, outperforming traditional methods like quantitative PCR. Notably, ddPCR provides enhanced consistency and reproducibility at it resists PCR inhibitors commonly found in environmental DNA samples. This study aimed to determine the most effective filter material for ddPCR protocols by assessing the reproducibility of species-specific gene copy numbers and filtration time across six filter types: cellulose acetate (CA), mixed cellulose ester (MCE), nylon (NY), polycarbonate (PC), polyethersulfone (PES), and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). The study used two species of Chattonella marina complexes as a case study. Filtration rates were slower for NY, PC, and PVDF filters. Moreover, MCE, NY, PES, and PVDF yielded lower DNA amounts than other filters. Importantly, the CA filter exhibited the lowest variance (38-39%) and the highest determination coefficients (R2 = 0.92-0.96), indicating superior performance. These findings suggest that the CA filter is the most suitable for ddPCR quantification of marine protists, offering quick filtration and reliable reproducibility.

  • The analysis of polychlorodibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorodibenzo furans(PCDFs) was performed by using four different gas chromatographic columns (SP-2331, DB-5, DB-17 and DB-DIOXIN). The data reported is pertaining to flue gas, fly ash, ambient air, soil and fish. The difference in quantification of samples according to four columns was observed, it was noted that major difference was observed in the flue gas when compared with soil, fly ash, ambient air and fish. The quantification of the same samples according to four columns it was also found that DB-5 column have the highest concentration whereas SP-2331 column showed the lowest concentration. The quantification of DB-17 column for 1,2,3,6,7,8-HxCDF was found to be twice and three times higher when compared with other columns, whereas the quantification of DB-DIOXIN column for 1,2,3,7,8-PeCDD was also found to be over estimated twice when compared with other columns.

  • We present a quantification protocol to get the alignment factors of a custom-made spectrometer and the nonlinear fitting function between the measured CCD pixel domain and the wavelength domain to apply the spectral-domain optical coherence tomography using fiber Bragg gratings. We have used 4 different center wavelength gratings with a narrow spectral bandwidth (<0.05 nm) and the same reflectivity (>92 %) to calibrate and align the custom-made spectrometer.

  • 다차원선호분석(mutidimensional preference analysis)은 여러 상품들에 대한 개인(또는 그룹)의 선호도를 알아보기 위한 분석방법으로 결과는 보통 2차원 그림으로 제공된다. 본 연구에서는 의미있는 두 가지 최적척도 기준을 제안하고 이와 연관된 행 및 열표시자를 유도하고 있으며, 아울러 사전지식을 반영하기 위해 부분수량화를 다차원선호분석에 도입하는 방법을 제시한다. 또한 본 연구에서 제시한 다차원분석기법들을 실제 인터넷 검색엔진에 대한 선호도 자료에 적용한다.

  • As the computerized methods and equipments In nuclear medicine imaging increases, quantitative information is needed on the single photon emission computed tomographic Images as well as on the conventional nuclear medicine images. In this paper, the authors investigated the effect of several clinician - friendly reconstrution filters on the resultant transverse slices of backprojected Profiles of radioisotope distribution from the Quantitative point of view, and reduced the filter parameters such as cutoff frequency and order of filter which are neces mary to minimize the quantification error using computer-generated phantoms.
