The purpose of this study was to collect basic data on the prevention of and education about diabetes mellitus for the nutritional management of a diabetes mellitus risk group. The study which took place in Kangbukgu, Seoul, involved a diabetes mellitus risk group (DMR $\geq$ 110 mg/dL, 61), of males and females, aged 36 to 68 years, and a group of healthy people as a control group ( < 110 mg/dL, 183), using luting blood sugar (FBS) levels. The proportion of people in the abnormal range was higher in the DMR than that of control group for total cholesterol, high-density lipoproteins-cholesterol (HDL-C), total protein, glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT) and creatinine. Particularly with respect to serum protein the proportion in the DMR in abnormal range (p < 0.05) was significantly higher than that of the control group. The proportion in the DMR with a family history of disease was significantly higher than that of the control group (p < 0.01). Using body mass index (BMI), waist-hip ratio (WHR) and relative body weight (RBW), the obesity indices in the DMR was higher than that of the control group. Comparing the DMR and the control group with respect to dietary habits, it seems that the DMR had more undesirable dietary habits than the control group. When the intake of each nutrient for the DMR and the control group was compared to the Korean recommended dietary allowances (RDA), the proportion of excess intake and deficient intake in the DMR was higher than that of the control group. The DMR showed a greater undesirable dietary intake pattern as compared to that of the control group, based on the RDA. With respect to the dietary diversity score (DDS) and the mean adequacy ratio (MAR) for quality estimation of the overall flood intake, the DMR showed a feater undesirable pattern than the control group. According to the above results, the DMR tended to have more undesirable eating habits when compared to the control group. Therefore, to provide a more efficient nutritional education program for the DMR we must conduct lurker studies on eating habits, so as to provide systematic nutritional management based on theme differences between the DMR and the control group.

The mean scores of KWOMAC in the experimental group were significantly decreased (Z=-2.94, p=.003) and the mean difference of quality of life in the experimental group was also significantly increased than that of the control group (Z=-3.50, p<.001). Conclusion: The taekwondo exercise program may have affirmative effects on physical fitness, physical function, and quality of life in women with osteoarthritis.
This study was conducted to identify the pain characteristics, family support and physical functioning and to determine predictors of the quality of life in aged women with chronic pain. Method: The questionnaires were collected through direct interview by a trained research assistant from July 2 to August 24, 2001. Subjects were 108 women clients with chronic pain over 65 years of age. Data analyzed frequency, percentage, mean, Pearson's correlation, ANOVA and stepwise multiple regression by SAS. Result: Care providers were mostly spouses and daughters in law. Care providers who took care of elderly for a few hours a day had the highest percentile. Aged women had persistently had chronic pain of moderate intensity and was moderately satisfied with pain management. The mean score of disability due to pain was 3 on a 10 point scale. The mean scores of physical function and quality of life were moderate and there were negative correlations between pain characteristics, physical functioning, and quality of life at the range from r=-.46 to r=-.83. Satisfaction with care, duration of pain, disability due to pain, and physical functioning accounted for 56% of the variance in perceived quality of life for aged women with chronic pain. Disability due to pain was the most predictable variable of quality of life and physical function was the second .Conclusion: The results suggest that care by family, education in pain control, prevention of disability, and maintenance of physical function are important to improve and maintain quality of life in aged women with chronic pain. Therefore, there is a need for program development that enhance family support and nursing intervention that focuses on active pain control.

The object of this study is to examine the managerial characteristics of the Korean building projects. The study in this paperproposes to investigate the factors that affect process quality not only in the construction phase but also in all three phases (design, construction, and operation) of the whole life cycle of a building project. A questionnaire survey is conducted to investigate the differences in the perceptions of graduate students, professors, designers and practitioners with regard to process quality in building projects. Analyzing these factors helps in revising and improving the Korean existing quality control system and programs. The findings indicate that cooperation of designer's professionals, level of management leadership in promoting quality, ability to operate the facility within design limits are important factors. Theparticipation percentage of "quality" treated in any course/seminar shows only 45%. It is recommended that college programs include courses that treat the administrative aspects involved in the building project and that continuing education programs rover quality training.
The major purpose of this study is to examine effectiveness of an intervention program which aims at education/training caregivers of the dementia and/or stroke elderly. This program was conducted at group level. Participants of this program were the primary caregivers who have taken care of the elderly with dementia and/or stroke. To test the effectiveness of the caregiver education/training program, this study employed an quasi-experimental design: to compare pretest score with posttest ones for the same participants. Total forty two primary caregivers have completed the program. Seventeen caregivers were in experimental group, whereas twenty five ones belonged to control group. Our data suggest that, for the primary caregivers, subjective quality of life was more important than cargiving burden. Subjective quality of life among the caregivers significantly improved, after completing the program. This result suggests that a short-term intervention program at group level is not effective to reduce caregiving burden because an infra structure of community resources, to which the caregivers and their family access, did not remain at sufficient level. However, participants have showed improved mutual solidarity, and they have exposed to wider spectrum of a variety of information. As a result, they have perceived that the level of subjective quality of life has positively changed. Additional factors have influenced on determining the quality of life among the caregivers. The caregivers, whose demented elderly showed lower level of ADL and IADL, or who have experienced the short period of caregiving, were more likely to belong to higher level of quality of life. The quality of life among the caregivers were even more improved in the following group: being young, and highly educated, man. One of the contributions from this study is that we have found caregiver's characteristics, which need an intervention most. In addition, our study implies that specific contents of the caregivers' education/training program should be conducted based on each family's unique characteristics.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the management and quality assurance of higher education franchising in UK universities. Central Lancashire University, Liverpool John Moors University and London Metropolitan University were selected for the case study. The findings based on the framework consisting four areas are as follows. First, the franchising was actively pursued due to the interest of UK universities in securing student and financial resources associated with the interest of partner universities aiming at internationalization and development. Second, the field of cooperation reflected the strengths of UK universities and the needs of partner universities, while the types and degree awarding methods were diversified thanks to the autonomy given to UK universities. Third, the management system was well structured to guarantee transparent and valid operation of franchising with the intensive support of the headquarter at the beginning stage. Fourth, rigorous quality control measures were applied to provide education services of the same quality. In this process, QAA played an important guiding role. Based on these findings, we suggested policy implications for the Korean government as well as universities who are interested in franchising of higher education.

Plutonium-238 has always been considered as the one of the promising radioisotopes for space nuclear power supply, which has long half-life, low radiation protection level, high power density, and stable fuel form at high temperatures. The industrial-scale production of 238Pu mainly depends on irradiating solid 237NpO2 target in high flux reactors, however the production process faces problems such as large fission loss and high requirements for product quality control. In this paper, a conceptual design study of producing 238Pu in a multi-purpose high flux reactor was evaluated and analyzed, which includes a sensitivity analysis on 238Pu production and a further study on the irradiation scheme. It demonstrated that the target structure and its location in the reactor, as well as the operation scheme has an impact on 238Pu amount and product quality. Furthermore, the production efficiency could be improved by optimizing target material concentration, target locations in the core and reflector. This work provides technical support for irradiation production of 238Pu in high flux reactors.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify and evaluate outcome measurement scales of nursing education such as communication, professionalism, leadership, and critical thinking. Methods: A methodological study design was used to evaluate the reliability and validity of the scales. Survey was done to the students (n=407) enrolled in baccalaureate nursing schools. Using convenience sampling method, we tried to include all grades of students. Internal consistency, convergent validity and group comparison were used to evaluate the reliability and validity of the scales. Results: All scales were reliable and valid. Only convergent validity of the scale to measure critical thinking was relatively low. It suggested that critical thinking skill and disposition might be measured separately. Also it was inefficient to measure the nursing education outcomes with separate scales. Conclusions: It is recommended to develop a new integrative scale to measure nursing education outcomes. Also it is necessary to set the norm of nursing students to evaluate nursing education outcomes for the quality control of nursing education.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a 12-week structured exercise program (12-week-SEP) and evaluate its effects on pain, physical function and quality of life in patients with total hip arthroplasty (THA). Methods: A nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design was utilized to examine the effects of the 12-week-SEP on patients' outcomes after THA. A total of 46 adult patients (experimental group=25, control group=21) who had THA were recruited for the study. The 12-week-SEP consisted of education, exercise (muscle strengthening and progressive walking), and feedback. Data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 21.0 using the $x^2$ test and repeated measures ANOVA. Results: The mean age of the participants was 60.9 years and 25 men (54.5%) and 21 women (45.7%) were included in the study. There were significant intervention effects on pain reduction and increased physical function but no effects on quality of life. Conclusion: The 12-week-SEP provided pain relief and enhanced physical function in patients underwent THA. Clinical application of the 12-week-SEP can improve postoperative nursing practices for patients with THA. Future research with larger sample is of necessity to obtain greater generalizability of the empirical evidences of the 12-week-SEP.
