  • In this study, water quality characteristics of lakes in the Seosan area are analyzed. Components water quality were analysed at 10 sampled points in each lakes, and the results were evaluated for seasonal variation. It was found that water quality was over II~III class. Most of lakes in the Seosan area which implies that are suitable as the maintenance water. The concenturation of T-N, T-P was observed IV~V class during all seasons. Particularly, T-N concenturation peaks in spring, while was lowered in other seasons. In the lake, high concenturation of T-N, T-P bring about Eutrophication when algae was growth causing various physico-chemical changes in the water. It is suggested that the water quality management strategies need to be applied for each lake.

  • Uncoated, ethyl cellulose(EC) coated or methacrylic acid copolymer(MAC) coated ferrous sulfate was added to the yoghurt made from whole milk powder and quality changes of those yoghurt were observed. Among treatments uncoated ferrous sulfate added yoghurt showed the lowest quality in the view of pH, total acidity, total counts of lactic acid bacteria, and sensory characteristics. Quality change of MAC comparing to control was lower than that of EC. MAC and EC showed higher TBA value than no iron added or uncoated iron added one during storage. From sensory evaluation, MAC was not signif icantly different from control in color and off flavor after one day storage(p>0.05), however significant difference was observed in off flavor after 7 day storage(p<0.05). From above results, MAC coated ferrous sulfate added yoghurt showed better quality than uncoated or EC coated ferrous sulfate added one during storage.

  • Purpose: Most major countries have their own set of qualifications called national quality awards to measure the quality of companies and organizations. This study analyzes 3 different national quality awards and compare with the result from Korean quality awards conducted by Ministry of knowledge and Economy and Korea institute for advancement of technology. Methods: We tested 17 technoparks out of 18 technoparks in Korea and see how different the results can be depends on the value weights. We closely looked at each qualifications and tables of different countries' awards and compared with one used in Korea. Finally we proposed some suggestions to use not only domestic model but also international ones to be objective and add efficiency to organizations. Results: Depend on similarity of qualifications and weights, there were countries with different results and these caused score and ranking changes. Nevertheless, there was a comparison that did not make any changes on both score and ranking. Conclusion: We recognized the limitation that a standardized quality variation cannot be enough sources to test and analyze technoparks with different size and criteria. Integrating global standards and flow would be the first step to help grow technoparks and organizations placed in Korea in days to come.

  • Occurrence of process environment changes, such as influent load variances and process condition changes, can reduce treatment efficiency, increasing effluent water quality. In order to prevent exceeding effluent standards, it is necessary to manage effluent water quality based on process operation data including influent and process condition before exceeding occur. Accordingly, the development of the effluent water quality prediction system and the application of technology to wastewater treatment processes are getting attention. Therefore, in this study, through the multi-channel measuring instruments in the bio-reactor and smart multi-item water quality sensors (location in bio-reactor influent/effluent) were installed in The Seonam water recycling center #2 treatment plant series 3, it was collected water quality data centering around COD, T-N. Using the collected data, the artificial intelligence-based effluent quality prediction model was developed, and relative errors were compared with effluent TMS measurement data. Through relative error comparison, the applicability of the artificial intelligence-based effluent water quality prediction model in wastewater treatment process was reviewed.

  • Effect of storage temperature fluctuation on quality of frozen breaded raw shrimp was studied. Storage experiments were undertaken as follows; First, after storage at $-20^{\circ}C$ for 20 days or 40 days, storage temperature of materials were raised to $-15^{\circ}C\;or\;15^{\circ}C$, and then stored at these temperatures, And second, by repeating for 5, 10 and 15 times by 3 conditions ($-20{\rightarrow}-15^{\circ}C{\rightarrow}-20^{\circ}C,\;-20{\rightarrow}-10^{\circ}C{\rightarrow}-20^{\circ}C\;-20{\rightarrow}-5^{\circ}C{\rightarrow}-20^{\circ}C$) with temperature fluctuation during storage. Quality changes were measured by determining extractability of salt-soluble protein, volatile basic nitrogen, thiobar-bituric acid, pH and microbiological changes at regular intervals. Rise in storage temperature from $-20^{\circ}C\;to\;-15^{\circ}C$ had not caused significant change on it's quality, but rise up to $-5^{\circ}C$ caused some change in quality without relationship with storage period before temperature rise. Fluctuation of storage temperature from $-20^{\circ}C\;to\;-15^{\circ}C$ of frozen breaded raw shrimp did not cause noticeable changes on it's quality. But temperature fluctuation from $-20^{\circ}C\;to\;-10^{\circ}C\;or\;-5^{\circ}C$ caused remarkable changes of it's quality, according to the increase of fluctuation times and temperatures.

  • This study investigated the changes caused by diverting water applications at the riverhead of the Onchun Stream via the monitoring of several water quality and biological parameters between 10/09 and 10/10. The analysis indicated that the Onchun Stream distinctly decreased in terms of several water quality parameters, such as BOD, COD, TN, TP, and the concentration of heavy metals as compared to similar values in 2005, before the flowing of the Nakdong River. Especially, BOD showed the 2nd grade of water quality, with an average of 2.0 mg/l at all sites. The species number and standing crops of plankton and benthic macroinvertebrates in the Onchun Stream were also increased. Thus, it was concluded that diverting water from the Nakdong River to the Onchun Stream dramatically improved various environmental indices, such as water quality and biological changes.

  • This study evaluated the storage stability of a variety of sauce products in the Korean market, determined primary quality indices for three typical products, and proposed functional relationships that are useful for determining shelf life at different temperatures. Most of the products examined were found to combine hurdles of low pH, low water activity, and the use of heat processing as methods for producing the required storage stability while maintaining the sensory quality of the products. For a meat extract solution produced for cold noodles (pH=4.3; $a_w=0.98$), the primary quality change determining shelf life was lipid oxidation, determined here by the TBA value. The primary quality index of a soybean paste seasoning mix (pH=4.0; $a_w=0.78$), which had a microbial load of 2.8 log (CFU/g), was a decrease in its pH. The primary quality index for a sandwich spread (pH=4.0; $a_w=0.88$) was changes in its surface color. The temperature dependence of changes in the primary quality indices can be described by the Arrhenius equation, which can estimate the shelf life at any arbitrary limit as a function of temperature. The activation energies for changes in the primary quality indices of the meat extract solution, the soybean paste seasoning, and the sandwich spread were 20.3, 27.2, and 43.5 kJ/mol, respectively.

  • Even if a small amount of arsenic (As) is entering to small agricultural reservoir from upper streams, small agricultural reservoir becomes sensitive to changes in arsenic concentration depending on the water level in case of accumulation continuously because of its scale. If we want to manage arsenic concentration in small agricultural reservoir, it is very important to understand arsenic changes in agricultural reservoir. In spite of the fact that modeling is the most accurate method for analyzing arsenic concentration changes in small agricultural reservoirs, but, it is difficult to monitor arsenic change everyday. So, if data is prepared for modeling arsenic changes, water quality modeling is more effective than monitoring. Therefore, in this study, arsenic concentration changes was simulated and arsenic concentration change mechanism in small reservoir was analyzed using hydrological and water quality monitoring data and by conducting EFDC (Environment Fluid Dynamics Code)-WASP (Water Quality Analysis Simulation Program) linkage. EFDC-WASP coupling technique was very useful for modeling arsenic changes because EFDC can consider hydrodynamic and WASP can perform arsenic concentration simulation, separately. As a results of this study, during dry season, As concentration was maintained relatively high arsenic concentrations. Therefore, water level control will be needed for managing As concentration of reservoir.

  • Meat quality includes technological quality attributes, consumer acceptance, and credence characteristics. In terms of credence characteristics, animal welfare is one of the most interesting topics to both consumers and the livestock industry. Consumers prefer meat produced from livestock that has been raised in low stress and ecofriendly environments. The livestock industry cares about animal welfare to meet the requirements of consumers. Animal welfare is closely associated with the stress and physiological response of livestock to stress. Moreover, stress just before slaughter (i.e., pre-slaughter stress) has negative effects on not only animal welfare but also ultimately on meat quality. It is well-documented that pre-slaughter stress can influence ante- and post-mortem biological changes of the muscles, especially their metabolic properties and metabolites. The metabolic properties and metabolites contents also can modulate the postmortem changes of the muscles. Conversion of muscles to meat during postmortem is a very important process because it determines ultimately the meat quality. Thus, understanding pre-slaughter stress and physiological responses to stress in farm animals is important for animal welfare and meat quality. The purpose of this paper was to examine the concept of stress, physiological responses to stress, measurement of stress, and the relationships between stress indices and meat quality traits.
