  • In the construction industry, Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) is considered to be the most suitable approach and determining the attribute weights is an important CBR problem. In this paper, a method is proposed for determining attribute weights that are calculated with attribute relation. The basic items of consideration were qualitative and quantitative influence factors. These quantitative factors were related to the qualitative factors to develop a Cost Drivers-structural equation model which can be used to estimate construction cost by considering attribute weight. The process of determining the attribute weight-structural equation model consists o 4 phases: selecting the predominant Cost Drivers for the SEM, applying the Cost Driers in the SEM, determining and verifying the attribute weights and deriving the Cost Estimation Equation. This study develops a cost estimating technique that complements the CBR method with a Cost Drivers-structural equation model which can be actively used during the schematic estimating phases of construction.

  • Field test was conducted in Chungbuk province to evaluate the soil fertility using landscape and soil attributes by application of geographic information system(GIS) in 48 tobacco fields during 2 years(1996 ; 23 fields, 1997 ; 25 fields). The soil fertility factors and fertilizer effects were estimated by twenty five independent variables including 13 chemical properties and 12 GIS databases. Twenty five independent variables were classified by two groups, 15 quantitative indexes and 10 qualitative indexes and were analyzed by multiple linear regression (MLR) of SAS, REG and GLM models. The estimation model for evaluation of soil fertility and fertilizer effect was made by giving the estimate coefficient for each quantitative index and for each group of qualitative index significantly selected by MLR. Estimation for soil fertility factors and fertilizer effects by independent variables was better by MLR than single regression showing gradually improvement by adding chemical properties, quantitative indexes and qualitative indexes of GIS. Consequently, it is assumed that this approach by MLR with quantitative and qualitative indexes was available as an evaluation model of soil fertility and recommendation of optimum fertilization for tobacco field.

  • Purpose: Oral and facial sensation is affected by various factors, including trauma and disease. This study assessed the clinical profile of patients diagnosed with sensory dysfunction and investigated their sensory perception using simple qualitative sensory tests. Methods: Based on a retrospective review of the medical records, we analyzed a total of 68 trigeminal nerve branches associated with sensory dysfunction in 52 subjects. We analyzed the frequency and etiology of sensory dysfunction, and the frequency of different types of sensory perception in response to qualitative sensory testing using tactile and pin-prick stimuli. Results: The inferior alveolar nerve branch was the most frequently involved in sensory dysfunction (88.5%). Third molar extraction (36.5%) and implant surgery (36.5%) were the most frequent etiological factors associated with sensory dysfunction. Hypoesthesia was the most frequent sensory response to tactile stimuli (60.3%). Pin-prick stimuli elicited hyperalgesia, hypoalgesia, and analgesia in 32.4%, 27.9%, and 36.8%, respectively. A significant association was found between the two kinds of stimuli (p=0.260). Conclusions: Sensory dysfunction frequently occurs in the branches of the trigeminal nerve, including the inferior alveolar nerve, mainly due to trauma associated with dental treatment. Simple qualitative sensory testing can be conveniently used to screen sensory dysfunction in patients with altered sensation involving oral and facial regions.

  • Purpose of the research: In response to the increasing number of selling centers, this paper examines factors that influence the voluntary participation in selling centers. The goal of this study is to enable organizations to meet changing market conditions, which require interdisciplinary collaboration during sales projects. This paper also discusses potential problems which may occure during the implementation of these factors in practice. Research design and methodology: The research method consists of a qualitative cross-sectional study with N=12 interviewees. All interviewees are current or former selling center participants. During the interview sessions, semi-structured face-to-face interviews were used, which were evaluated using a qualitative content analysis. In addition, a frequency analysis was applied to evaluate the number of mentions per factor. Research results: In total, five factors were raised in order to improve the framework conditions of voluntary participation. These factors are performance incentives, transparency, availability of resources, goal orientation, as well as collegiality and affiliation. Major conclusions: The identified factors are also under discussion in the existing literature. Knowing about factors that generate voluntary participation in selling centers pays off particularly in improving the probability of completion of sales projects in which buying centers and selling centers are working together.

  • Shopping is the activity not only purchasing goods/services but also pursuing the emotional satisfaction. Browsing can be defined as shopping behavior looking around the store without purchasing intention. Through the browsing activity, consumers are able to collect the information and be ready for the possible purchases while marketers have an opportunity to inform consumers of products/ stores/ brands. The more browsing activity, the more stimuli for buying, the more unplanned/ impulse buying. Therefore, this is the time that consumer's browsing activity is getting importance in the area of fashion marketing. The purpose of this study was to examine attracting and hindering factors related to browsing activity especially for purchase of fashion items, using a qualitative research method. An in-depth interview was conducted with 10 female shoppers ranged age 21-50. Included in the questions were consumer's opinions about VMD, convenience, traffic, salesman's attitude, companions, prices, sizes and fitting arrangement. The results of this study provide fashion store managers with the detailed and practical information to draw the consumers in the store.

  • The fashion industry has distinctive characteristics. It is important to understand the specific working environment and unique problems at fashion corporations in order enhance employee efficiency. However, studies on job stress for fashion employees remain limited. This study used qualitative research to examine major job stress factors for fashion company workers. In-depth interviews were conducted on 6 respondents who work in various departments at fashion manufacturing companies. We identified task-related factors and structural factors as the two major job stress factors. Task-related factors consisted of 4 elements (necessity of massive knowledge, overtime outside work, tight schedules, and organizational tasks); structural factors consisted of 3 elements (burden of sales outcome, formal relationships, and anxiety of salary retirement). The results indicated that respondents consistently tried to gain knowledge about the latest trends and field experiences that caused mental and physical exhaustion due to the necessity of working late. Designers and workers in the sales department were constantly evaluated by their sales results compared to other workers that caused high levels of stress. Respondents answered that building relationships was an important factor in the fashion industry and sometimes felt that building formal relationships was more important than the ability to do work.
