  • A five-month-old toy poodle was referred for treatment of bilateral mandibular fractures. Preoperative skull and dental radiographs showed rostral mandibular fractures and permanent teeth that had not yet erupted. In addition to providing stability for the healing of fractures, it is very important to focus on restoring normal occlusion. The mandibular fractures were repaired using interdental wiring in a dentate area where the deciduous canines and fourth premolars were stable and could be used to anchor the interdental fixation. In the absence of an erupted permanent mandibular first molar, the modified Risdon wiring was performed using the deciduous mandibular fourth premolars as anchor teeth. An intraoral splint was placed on the mandibular teeth using self-curing composite resin. Five months after surgery, the patient had experienced no complications, and the permanent teeth had erupted normally. In this case, which involves a small-breed puppy with deciduous dentition, treatment with a wire-reinforced interdental splint using intact deciduous fourth premolar teeth as anchor teeth can be considered as a suitable method for rostral mandibular fracture restoration.

  • Several vascular accesses can be used for catheter guided coil embolization for occluding patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). Although trans-femoral approach is most commonly used in dogs, it is often unable to insert angiocatheter for inserting the coil delivery system, especially small puppies weighing less than 2 kg of body weight. Therefore this case study developed trans-carotid method for puppy using JR coronary catheter and free push delivery system. Using this new method, we successfully treated a puppy with PDA weighing 1.25 of body weight.

  • This is a study of reputation from the perspective of evolutionary psychology. To start a theory building process in PR, Tall Puppy scale is examined using dominance hierarchy and reputation hierarchy. Tall Puppy scale is a measure toward highly successful, thus famous people. when they fall. The result showed that Koreans have negative attitude toward famous people 8times more and prefer their fall than Austrailians. The number one variable to explain the psychology of reputation hierarchy was self-esteem. It was strongly correlated with reputation hierarchy attitude. People with higher self-esteem were more generous about famous figures when people with low self-esteem prefer more the fall of tall puppies. A discussion for reputation hierarchy theory is followed.

  • Five-month-old a female mongrel puppy weighing 3.5 kg showed no systemic disorder and particular discomfort except abdominal distension at the first visit. On physical examination an irregular abdominal mass was palpated. One month later she was clumsy and uncoordinated. In addition, lethargy and anorexia were appeared. Then she became comatose and died in spite of initial therapy. In radiographic examination enlargement of both sides of kidney was observed. The hematological examination the dog had WBC of 16,250/$\mu$l, RBC of $7.2{\times}10^6$ $\mu$l, PCV of 32%, total protein of 8.0 g/dl, and fibrinogen of 900 mg/dl. In serum chemistry BUN was 87.4 mg/dl and creatinine was 5.1 mg/dl. Urinalysis revealed pH of 5.6, SG of 1.009 and protein of 500 mg/dl. In urine sediment test many RBCs, leukocytes, inflammatory cells and a few epithelial cells were observed. On histopathologic examination the size of right and left kidney were 15 cm, 16 cm in length, 6 cm, 6 cm in widths, respectively. Both sides of kidney were filled with brown-orange fluid and had irregular capsular surface. The cysts of various sizes were located throughout the cortex and medulla. No abnormality was found in any other organs. Histologically, cyst was lined by cuboidal to slightly flattened tubular epithelium and surrounded by mature fibrous connective tissue. Glomeruli, tubule and renal pelvis remained normal between cysts and exfoliated epithelial cells.

  • A 4-day-old, male Poodle dog was presented with dull, depressed and exhausted activity after the birth. On physical examination, the puppy showed arthrogryposis, muscular atrophy and no movement of hindlimbs. Palpation on dorsum revealed an absence of lumbar and sacral vertebrae. On prenatal and postnatal radiography, lumbar vertebrae, sacrum and coccygeal vertebrae were not visualized. On ultrasonography, bilateral kidney and urinary bladder were observed. On computed tomography, there were no apparent abnormalities in the forelimbs, cervical vertebrae or head, while lumbar vertebrae, sacrum and coccygeal vertebrae were not observed. At necropsy examination, the liver, stomach, intestine, kidney and urinary bladder were normal. This congenital anomaly was consistent with Perosomus elumbis. Perosomus elumbis in dogs is a rare condition of unknown etiology. In this report, Perosomus elumbis was evaluated with radiography, ultrasound and computed tomography.

  • Here we report a case of a 7-month-old Jindo puppy with a double intussusception. On survey radiography, a soft tissue opacity mass was identified in the mid-abdomen. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a triple-circle sign. Double intussusception was diagnosed based on these findings. Exploratory laparotomy confirmed it to be a double intussusception in the small intestine. Small intestine involving the double intussusception was surgically resected followed by anastomosis. The dog had good prognosis without any complication. To the best of our knowledge, double intussusception is an extremely rare form of intestinal disease in dogs. It may cause blood supply to that section to be greatly reduced, thus causing ischemia and necrosis of the bowel tissue. Timely diagnosis with ultrasonographic findings and immediate surgical intervention are important to improve the prognosis of such cases.

  • Five puppies, 14 days old in the same litter showed acute symptoms such as painful crying, anorexia, abdominal pain and depression with fatal terminations. Necropsy of a puppy revealed hemorrhagic and necrotic foci in the lungs and kidney. The histological lesions were characterized with fibro-necrotizing foci in the lungs, nonsuppurative encephalitis and intranuclear inclusions of liver cells. A cytopathogenic agent was isolated from the thoracic fluid of a dead puppy by cell culture with primary dog kidney cells. The puppies inoculated with the field isolate showed the same clinical signs and lesions as those of the spontaneous cases. Viral particles were observed in suspension of the isolated agent by electron microscopy. The primary dog kidney cells infected with the field isolate showed fluorescent foci against anti-CHV monoclonal antibody after FA stain. On these findings of the disease it was diagnosed as CHV infection. The report signifies the first description of an epizootic of CHV infection in Korea.

  • 40-day-old mixed male puppy was presented with a 10-day history of tenesmus and extensive ulcerative lesion of perineum. At physical examination, the dog was voiding mainly from an orifice in the perineal fistula. On fistulogram, a urethroperineal fistula was diagnosed. The dog was treated by wet dressing for wound management and antibiotics for 4weeks. Subsequently, the patient improved and no complication or recurrence was presented.
