Transjugular occlusion of patent ductus arteriosus using an Amplatz canine ductal occluder in a Cocker spaniel dog

  • A 5-year-old female Cocker spaniel dog (body weight 7.0 kg) was presented with primary complaints of exercise intolerance and loud precordial thrill which was noticed since she was a puppy. Physical examination revealed a grade V/VI continuous murmur over the maximal point of the left basal area, bounding femoral pulse, but no differential cyanosis. Tall R waves were detected in electrocardiogram, suggesting left ventricular enlargement. Diagnostic imaging studies showed enlarged left ventricle, bulged descending aorta (dAo), markedly dilated right pulmonary artery, and continuous shunt flow between the dAo and main pulmonary artery. Based on these findings, the dog was diagnosed as left to right shunted patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). The patent ductus arteriosus was treated by lodging a PDA duct occluder via the transvenous approach. Clinical signs were markedly improved after the ductal occlusion, the shunt flow was mildly persistent. The case presented is the first case of PDA occluded by the PDA duct occluder via the transvenous approach in a small breed of dog. Although the residual shunt flow was mildly persisted, the dog was clinically normal without detectable murmurs.

반려동물 개인화서비스를 위한 융합 플랫폼 설계 (Design of Convergence Platform for companion animal Personalized Services)

  • 최근 스마트 강아지인식표 등의 사물인터넷(Internet of Things, IoT) 기술을 활용하여 반려동물의 건강관리를 실시간으로 수행하는 기기가 개발되고 수요 또한 증가하고 있으나 반려동물용 IoT 기기들은 복잡한 처리가 어렵고, 단순히 센서 정보을 이용 건강상태를 파악하기 때문에 고급기능을 구현하는데 한계가 있다. 본 논문은 통계적 분석을 활용하여 맞춤형 사료제작, 의약품제작, 반려동물 건강관리 등의 반려동물에게 맞춤형 개인화서비스가 가능한 통합 플랫폼을 설계한다. 반려동물이 착용하고 있는 IoT기기로부터의 센서 정보와 쇼핑몰에서의 고객의 구매 패턴 정보, 소셜미디어(SNS) 정보를 수집하는 미들웨어를 설계 한다. 또한 이를 통해 수집한 데이터를 데이터 베이스화하고 개인화서비스에 활용될 수 있도록 수집된 정보를 정제하고 분석 및 추론 가능한 분석기를 설계 한다.

Glutaraldehyde 및 Formocresol이 유견유치 치수조직에 미치는 영향에 관한 병리조직학적 연구 (A Histopathological Study of Pulp Tissue Reactions to Glutaraldehyde and Formocresol in Puppy's Primary Teeth)

  • This study was undertaken to evaluate the pulpal responses to the pulp-capping materials such as glutaraldehyde and formocresol in pulpotomy technique, especially in the primary dentition. Mandibular primary canines and molars of 5 dogs (aged about 8-9 weeks)were selected for this study. The intervals of observation for histologic study of pulpotomized primary teeth with 2% glutaraldehyde, formocresol and calcium hydroxide in the usual manner ranged from 2 hours, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks and 5 weeks after experiments respectively. Each specimens were fixed with 10% formalin and decalcified in 5% nitric acid. All slides were stained with Hematorylin-Eosin and examined histopathologically. The results were as follows; 1. In calcium hydroxide groups, formation of dentin bridge was initiated in 1 week after experiments and completed in 5 weeks after experiments. 2. Formation of dentin bridge was not seen, whereas necrosis of pulp tissue was noted, in formocresol and glutaraldehyde groups. 3. Duration of tissue reactions and tissue changes were similar, in formocresol and glutaraldehyde groups. 4. In formocresol and glutaraldehyde groups, amputation surfaces of the pulp were covered with blood clots, beneath which coagulation necrois was noted, but inflammatory cells were not prominent, in 2 hours and 1 week after experiments. But coagulation necrosis was proceeded to the apical portion, accompanied by infiltration of inflammatory cells, since 2 weeks after experiments. And suppuration or gangrene of the pulp tissue were noted in 3 weeks and 5 weeks groups. 5. Suppuration or gangrene of pulp seemed to provoke the resorption of dentin wall, and inflammatory changes and resorption of roots were noted in the periodontal membrane near the periapical region. 6. As compared with calcium hydroxide groups, resorption of the root was pronounced in form or cresol and glutaraldehyde groups. Effects of medicaments to the succedaneous tooth germ were not seen.

핏불테리어종 자견에서 폐동맥 협착과 난원공 개존증이 합병된우측 삼중심방증 (Cor Triatriatum Dexter Complicated with Pulmonic Stenosis and Patent Foramen Ovale in A Pitbull Terrier Puppy)

  • 2개월령 수컷 핏불테리어종 개 (체중 1.01 kg)가 심한 복부 팽만, 운동 불내성, 성장 지연, 노란 비루와 식욕부진을 주증으로 진료 의뢰 되었다. 영상 진단상에 비정상적인 막으로 분할된 확대된 우심방, 심한 수축기 폐동맥 제트 혈류 (최고혈류 5.66 m/s) 그리고 심방 중격에서의 우좌 단락혈류가 관찰되었다. 임상증상 및 진단학적 결과에 기초하여, 본 증례는 심한 폐동맥 협착과 우좌 단락의 난원공 개존증이 합병된 우측 삼중심방증으로 진단 되었다. 비안정적인 환자의 상태 때문에 수술적 혹은 중재적 치료는 시도되지 않았다. 그 개는 수혈, 산소공급 그리고 심장 관련 약물적 치료(예, 실데나필, 스피로노락톤, 에날라프릴)로 회복되었다.

국내(國內) 돼지의 Sarcocystis 감염과 Sarcocystis종의 동정에 관한 연구 (Sarcocystis infection and identification of Sarcocystis species in pigs in Korea)

  • Five hundred and forty-eight samples of pig heart muscle were collected from the abattoirs of many regions in Korea to reveal the frequency of Sarcocystis infections and to identify the species from June 1988 to April 1989. Heart muscle of the pigs was inspected for sarcocysts by the direct detection technique and for bradyzoites by the trypsin digestion technique. For examination of development of the parasites in the final host, 5 cross bred mature dogs, 5 puppies and 5 kittens were fed 100g, 50g and 50g of the infected meat respectively, four times in 2 days. Of 402 fattened and 146 older culled breeding pigs, 3 fattened pigs and 39 culled pigs were positive for Sarcocystis. Sarcocystis cysts from heart muscle measured an average of $425{\times}169{\mu}m$ and bradyzoites an average of $15.6{\times}3.5{\mu}m$. Of 15 animals, only 2 puppies were infected with Sarcocystis. The prepatent period was 11 to 12 days and patent period was not examined since the puppies were infected with some another infections and one died on day 11 and another died on day 12 after ingestion of the meat. The sporulated oocysts were detected 11 days after ingestion of the meat and sporocysts 12 days from the puppy feces. The sporulated oocysts measured an average of $16.5{\times}11.5{\mu}m$ and sporocysts an average of $12.6{\times}7.9{\mu}m$. On scraping examination of the intestinal mucosa, fully sporulated oocysts were detected in the tip of the intestinal villi. Considering above all descriptions, Sarcocystis in pig heart muscle in Korea was identified with Sarcocystis suicanis.

문절망둑(Acanthogobius flavimanus)에서 얻은 Stictodora lari 피낭유충의 동정 (Identification of Stictodora lari (Heterophyidae) metacercariae encysted in the brackish water fish, Acanthogobius flavimanus)

  • 경남 사천군에서 잡은 문절망둑(Acanthogobius navimanus)의 두부에서 동운상결가속 흡충의 퍼낭유충을 획득 하고 강아지와 어린 고양이에 실험감염시켜 성충을 얻은 바 Stirtodorn tnri (Heterophyidae)로 동정되었다. 피낭유충은 문절망둑 50마리에서 총 200개가 검출되었고 크기가 $0.39~0.43{\times}0.32~0.35mm$이며 긴 타원형이었다. 강아지 1마리와 어린 고양이 2마리에 34~100개의 피낭유충을 감염시켜 강아지에서 감염 후 8일째에 성충 30마리를, 고양이에서 4일 및 7일째에 각각 성충 2마리 및 1마리를 회수하였다. 성충 10마리(감염 후 8일)를 계측한 바 길이가 0.95~1.18mm(평균 1.05), 폭이 0.26~0.32mm (0.28)이었다. 자궁 내 충란은 긴 난원형으로 크기 $0.028~0.033{\;}(0.03){\times}O.017~0.020mm{\;}(0.019)$이었다. 충체의 종 동정 (species identification)에서 가장 중요한 특징은 함몰된 복흡반에 겹쳐져 있는 gonotyl의 형태, 특히 소극(small spines)의 배열 및 수이었던 바 gonotyl 외연을 따라 반원 모양으로 등그렇게 일렬로 배열된 체일40개의 소극과 한족으로 휘말라 집괴를 이루고 있는 약 30~40개의 소극, 즉 모두 60~80개의 소극이 '콤마' 형태를 이루고 있는 것이 관찰되었다. 이상의 형태학적 특징으로 이 충체를 S. lari로 동정하였다. 이 연구로 우리 나라에 S. lari의 생활사가 문절망둑을 중간숙주로 하여 영위되고 있음이 확인되었다.

선천성 슬개골탈구를 지닌 자견의 조기 진단법 및 외과적 수술법 확립 (Establishment of Early Diagnosis and Surgical Operative Method in Puppies with Congenital Patellar Luxation)

  • Medial patellar luxation in dogs is one of the most common patellar problems presented to the veterinary practitioner. It is observed in toy and miniature breed and the majority of cases is a congenital form. Because of extensor mechanism's instability, it causes deformity and disorder in the growth of the affected limb when the luxation is left without treatment As lameness is not easily detectable in puppies, early diagnosis and correction are essential for therapy. Up to now, there has not been any reports refering to the diagnostic methods and the optimal age for correction in young dogs. Thirteen 45-90 days old puppies, have grade I and/or II medial patellar luxation. Only by palpation, all 13 dogs were diagnosed of patelar luxation. Skyline radiographic view was useful to interpret patellar morphology and depth of trochlear groove only above 60 days old. However, it was difficult to make definite diagnosis patellar luxation. The caudocranial and lateral radiographic view as well as ultrasonographic skyline view were not showed of patellar luxation. 2 puppies had unilateral patellar luxation and 11 puppies had bilateral patellar luxation which more serious on the left than on the right. Only 3 puppies among 11 puppies with bilateral patellar luxation were observed of lameness degree 1. Regardless of grade of patellar luxation and lameness, we performed trochlear chondroplasty using a U-shape sculpture blade to minimize cartilage injury, transposition of tibia tuberosity with No. 1 Supramid to align extensor mechanism and lateral imbrication. After surgery, we examined the operated animal daily for 10 days and on 15, 30 and 60 days after surgery respectively. After operation, pain and fever became normal on 7 days, swelling on 10 days, respectively. On 10 days after surgery, dogs showed normal standing position, and normal walking was observed in 15 days after surgery. In force plate analysis, the operated legs were normal weight bearing at 30 days after operation. After surgery, not only patellar luxation and clinical signs have been gradually reduced but also bone growth have become normal without showing growth physeal plate injury. The survival rate of puppies over 62 days old was 100%, while 42-45 days old 37.5%. The above results suggest that optimal age for surgical correction of congenital medial patellar luxation is recommended over 60 days old. In conclusion, combination of trochlear chondroplasty, transposition of tibia tuberosity, and lateral retinacular imbrication is appropriate for over 60 days old puppies to efficiently correct patellar luxation.

체세포 복제 자견의 성장 및 혈액학적 특성 분석 (Analysis of Growth and Hematologic Characteristics of Cloned Puppies)

  • The objective of this study was to monitor health conditions of four genetically identical somatic cells cloned Labrador retriever puppies by estimation of body weight and analysis of hematologic and serologic characteristics. Naturally ovulated oocytes and donor cells were used for somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). Donor cells and enucleated oocytes were followed by electric fusion, chemical activation and surgical embryo transfer into the oviducts of surrogate females. Two recipients became pregnant; two maintained pregnancy to term, and four live puppies were delivered by Caesarean section. The cloned Labrador retrievers were genetically identical to the nuclear donor dog. The body weight of clone-1, -2, -3, and -4 was increased from 0.66, 0.40, 0.39, and 0.37 kg at birth to 6.2, 6.6, 6.2, and 6.0 kg at 8 weeks of age, respectively. Although clone-4 had lower numbers of RBC than reference range, the most of RBC and WBC related heamatologic results of cloned puppies were not different when compared to reference range. In serological analysis, Glucose, ALP and inorganic phosphate level of four cloned puppies was significantly higher than the reference ranges. However, there was no significant difference among four cloned dogs. This study suggests that cloned puppies derived from SCNT did not have remarkable health problems, at least in the growth pattern and hematological and serological parameters.

  • 바스티앙 비베스(Bastien $Viv{\grave{e}}s$)는 프랑스 그래픽노블의 대표주자로 손꼽히는 작가이다. 본 연구에서는 바스티앙 비베스 작품 "그녀들", "염소의 맛", "내 눈 안의 너"를 통해 그의 작품 세계의 특성을 연구하고, 작품 속에 나타나는 소통의 미학을 살펴보고자 한다. 그의 작품에서 주로 그려내는 것은 청춘의 사랑과 남녀 간의 소통, 즉 사랑에 빠진 남녀 사이에 소통이 어떤 중요한 의미를 지니는지에 대한 이야기이다. 1984년생인 젊은 작가는 사춘기를 지나고 청소년에서 청년이 되어 성인으로 거쳐 가는 과정에 걸쳐진 청춘 남녀의 풋사랑의 이야기를 본인과 본인 주변인의 이야기를 하듯 일상적인 어투로 그려내고 있다. 독특한 경험담이나 특출한 인물의 이야기를 들려주는 "타인"의 이야기가 아닌 "나"의 이야기를 그림으로써, 평범한 일상을 단순한 이야기 구조로 풀어나가며 독자와 감정을 교류하고, 열린 결말을 제공하여 독자와 감정을 소통해 나간다. 작가는 독자와의 감정 소통에 성공한 듯 보이지만, 결국 세 작품 속 남자주인공들은 여자주인공을 이해하지 못하고, 그녀와의 소통이 제대로 이루어지지 않은 채 당황스러움 속에 어리둥절하게 남겨진다. 바스티앙 비베스는 본인의 서투른 경험을 토대로 이루어진 사랑에 대한 세 작품을 통해서 남자와 여자 사이의 소통에 대해서 이야기하고 있다. 그에게 사랑에 대한 이야기는 결국 남녀 간의 소통의 이야기인 것이다.

자연발정견(發情犬) 및 인공발정유도견(人工發情誘導犬)에서 수정란이식(受精卵移植) (Embryo transfer in the dog in natural or induced estrus)

  • To study the conditions to enhance success of embryo transfer in the dog, 20 mixed-breed bitches were used for the experiment along with 4 male dogs for mating. The bitches were paired according to synchronism of natural estrus, or the counterpart as donor or recipient was treated with gonadotropin as FSH (follicular stimulating hormone) or PMSG (pregnant mare serum gonadotropin) for induction of estrus to be synchronized with estrus of the other bitch in natural estrus. Embryo recovery was performed in two ways for comparison, either by flushing each uterine horn after ovariohysterectomy or by flushing each horn in the state of non-ovariohysterectomy. In addition, the result of pregnancy according to the embryo stage and the repeatability of the experimental animals as donor or recipient were also investigated. FSH or PMSG was administered to the bitches which had passed over 4 months from last estrus, resulting in estrus-positive in 3 dogs of 6 FSH-treated dogs (50.0%), and in 5 dogs of 9 PMSG-treated dogs (55.6%), determined by proestrus signs and vaginal smear test. Estrus-positive bitches induced with gonadotropin were used as donor or recipient resulting in one embryo-recovered bitch as donor and one offspring-delivered bitch as recipient in 5 PMSG-treated dogs, whereas no result was obtained from 3 FSH-treated dogs. The rate of embryo recovery to be compared with number of corpus luteum was 68.2% in ovariohysterectomized dogs and 55.2% in non-ovariohysterectomized dogs, respectively. The number of dogs from which embryo was collected were 4 dogs of 6 ovariohysterectomized dogs (66.7%) and 6 dogs of 7 non-ovariohysterectomized dogs (85.7%), respectively. The result of parturition was obtained from one dog of 5 estrus-induced recipients, whereas no result was obtained from 3 natural-estrus recipients. The only dog which delivered a male puppy had been transferred 3 morulae and 2 blastocysts. Of 6 repeat-used bitches in canine embryo transfer, 3 dogs showed repeatability either as donor or recipient. These results indicated that inducing estrus of a dog with gonadotropin is feasible in canine embryo transfer to be synchronized with that of a natural-estrus dog, that embryo recovery is also possible in non-hysterectomized dogs, that the estrus-induced dog is also usable as recipient to result in parturition, and that repeat-use of a bitch as donor or(and) recipient is possible in canine embryo transfer.
