  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate energy savings for inverter driving multi-stage centrifugal pump. Variable speed driving pump system has high efficiency compared with constant speed driving pump system. Because of difficulty to estimate operating efficiency of variable speed driving pump system, energy saving rates are used to replace operating efficiency. energy saving rates are calculated from pump input power and pump duty cycle. But another researches have used pump duty cycles of each season for energy saving rate. In this study, for estimating energy saving rate more high accuracy, pump duty cycles are measured for 1 year. pump duty cycles, depending on the season and be classified according to the weekday/weekend or during the week day. By this pump duty cycles, Energy saving rate is calculated appropriately.

  • This study is to compare energy consumption of air-source, ground-source and dual-source heat pump systems during intermediate season using dynamic simulation. Ground-source heat pump has higher COP than that of air-source but requires additional power consumption of auxiliary equipment such as circulation pump. During intermediate season when the outdoor air temperature is favorable, total COP of air-source heat pump may be greater than that of ground-source when circulation pump power consumption is included. Dual-source heat pump which selects the more favorable heat source is compared with air-source only and ground-source only heat pumps for total power consumption. Results show that power consumption of dual-source heat pump is lower than that of ground-source only by 0.73%.

  • In this paper, an experimental study was conducted on the energy efficiency ratio of performance for air source heat pump. The energy efficiency ratio presents the operating efficiency of heat pump performance. In order to improve reliability in the energy efficiency ratio test of air source heat pump, the measurement uncertainty of the instrument was estimated. Measurement uncertainty refers to the uncertainty of a measurement, estimates the range in which the expected value of the measurement can be within a certain confidence level, and suggests a range in which the measured representative value is incorrect. The measurement uncertainty for the energy efficiency ratio test of air source heat pump was calculated and the measured results were presented.

  • Vertical closed-loop ground source heat pump systems(GSHP) have been installed widely in Korea since it can extract moderate temperature level of geothermal heat in a small area. As a ground heat exchanger, a vertical closed -loop type with brine circulation is mostly preferred since it is simple and less harmful to ground environment. However, it requires a secondary heat exchange loop between the refrigerant in a heat pump and the brine. By adding a geothermal heat exchanger in the secondary heat exchange loop, circulation pumps should be attached and the temperature difference between refrigerant and ground is increased, which are important parts of performance degradation. In this paper, annual and seasonal performances of direct expansion(DX) geothermal heat pump were estimated mathematically as an alternative of classical indirect geothermal heat pump based on the annual performance evaluation. As results, DX geothermal heat pump showed 43% higher annual performance than the classical U-tube geothermal heat pump.

  • Until recently, ships, automobiles, and drones using hydrogen energy are being actively researched. In addition, stations and facilities for hydrogen supply are being developed widely. Among them, a hydrogen pump is necessary for compressing it and transfer to other stations. The liquid hydrogen pump is operated at very high pressure up to 90 MPa. In our research, a reciprocating plunger pump is studied. Especially, a leakage in a liquid hydrogen pump is predicted using a finite element method. As a result, it was found that leak mass flow rates changed from 0.09 to 2.20 kg/h, when the gaps were given from 2 to 6 ㎛. Thus pump efficiencies were calculated from 99.9 to 97.9%, when the gaps changed from 2 to 6 ㎛. These results are useful for the design of the liquid hydrogen pump.

  • The efficiency, reliability and performance of any heat pump unit can only be ascertained after it has been tested and rated. For this reason, specific facilities, equiped with testing plants are built. Heat pump calorimeter is the facilities used by most of these testing facilities in their rating and certification process. The ultimate function of calorimeters is to, control and maintain the constant standard test conditions (indoor/outdoor entering temperatures and flow rate etc) during testing period. In this study, the test standards of heat pump unit and the structure of the calorimeter are surveyed. In addition, this study analyzes the total energy consumption of a water to water heat pump calorimeter. Heat pump calorimeter consumed much energy to excute the heat pump tests. The energy consumption of the calorimeter was higher than the heat pump unit, and it was increased as the heat pump unit capacity decreased.

  • This study analyzed the energy consumption of a building pump system that was originally equipped with a primary-secondary zone pump system. Using the HYSYS program the energy consumption of the primary pump system was compared with the primary-secondary zone pump system. The primary-secondary zone pump system consumes less energy than the originally designed primary pump system. When the distance between the machine room and each building is assumed to be equal, the primary pump system can be more efficient than the primary-secondary zone pump system with decreasing the distance. When the distance is 120 m, the primary system consumes less total annual energy than the primary-secondary zone pump system and saves 2,773 kWh. The suggested energy evaluation program can be useful if the designer seeks a more efficient pump system.
