This paper provides a brief summary of the performance of an innovative slip hardening twisted steel fiber in comparison with other fibers including straight steel smooth fiber, high strength steel hooked fiber, SPECTRA (high molecular weight polyethylene) fiber and PVA fiber. First the pull-out of a single fiber is compared under static loading conditions, and slip rate-sensitivity is evaluated. The unique large slip capacity of T-fiber during pullout is based on its untwisting fiber pullout mechanism, which leads to high equivalent bond strength and composites with high ductility. Due to this large slip capacity a smaller amount of T-fibers is needed to obtain strain hardening tensile behavior of fiber reinforced cementitious composites. Second, the performance of different composites using T-fibers and other fibers subjected to tensile and flexural loadings is described and compared. Third, strain rate effect on the behavior of composites reinforced with different types and amounts of fibers is presented to clarify the potential application of HPFRCC for seismic, impact and blast loadings.
The bond mechanism for reinforcing bars in concrete is equivalent to the normal contact and friction between the inclined ribs and the surrounding concrete. Based on the contact density model for the computation of shear transfer across cracks, an open-slip coupled model was developed for simulating three-dimensional bond behavior for reinforcing bars in concrete. A parameter study was performed and verified by simulating pull-out experiments of extremely different boundary conditions: short bar embedment with a huge concrete cover, extremely long bar embedment with a huge concrete cover, embedded aluminum bar and short bar embedded length with an insufficient concrete cover. The bar strain effect and splitting of the concrete cover on a local bond can be explained by finite element (FE) analysis. The analysis shows that the strain effect results from a large local slip and the splitting effect of a large opening of the interface. Finally, the sensitivity of rebar geometry was also checked by FE analysis and implies that the open-slip coupled model can be extended to the case of plain bar.

In this study, a numerical simulation that can effectively predict the strengthening effect of repaired aged RC structures is developed using the axial deformation link elements. In repaired structures, concrete and interface are modeled as quasi-brittle materials. An elastic-perfectly plastic constitutive relationship is introduced for reinforcing bars. Also, a linear-elastic relationship for repair materials such as FRP or CFS. Structural deterioration in terms of corrosion of steel rebar is considered. The interfacial property between steel and concrete which is reduced by corrosion of steel rebar is obtained by comparing numerical results with experimental results of pull out tests. Obtained values are used in repaired reinforced concrete structures under flexural loading conditions. To investigate strengthening effect of the structures repaired with carbon fiber sheet(CFS), repaired and unrepaired RC structures are analyzed numerically. From analysis, rip-off, debonding and rupture failure mechanisms of interface between substrate and CFS can be determined. Finally, strengthening effect according to the variation of interfacial material properties is investigated, and it is shown that interfacial material properties have influence on the mechanical behavior of repaired structure systems Therefore, the developed numerical method using axial deformation link elements can use for determining the strengthening effects and failure mechanism of repaired aged RC structure.
Geogrid application that has proved to be an effective and economic method of reinforcing particles, is widely used in geotechnical engineering. The discrete element method (DEM) has been used to investigate the micro mechanics of the geogrid deformation and also the interlocking mechanism that cannot be easily studies in laboratory tests. Two types of realistically shaped geogrid models with square and triangle apertures were developed using parallel bonds in PFC3D. The calibration test simulations have demonstrated that the precisely shaped triangular geogrid model is also able to reproduce the deformation and strength characteristics of geogrids. Moreover, the square and triangular geogrid models were also used in DEM pull-out test simulations with idealized shape particle models for validation. The simulation results have been shown to provide good predictions of pullout force as a function of displacement especially for the initial 30 mm displacement. For the granular material of size 40 mm, both the experimental and DEM results demonstrate that the triangular geogrid of size 75 mm outperforms the square geogrid of size 65 mm. Besides, the simulations have given valuable insight into the interaction between particle and geogrid and also revealed similar deformation behavior of geogrids during pullout. Therefore, the DEM provides a tool which enable to model other possible prototype geogrid and investigate their performance before manufacture.

This study is aim to assess mechanical properties which is highly related to structural safe and durability of 100MPa high strength concrete mixed with amorphous metallic fiber. All specimens were heated with low velocity heating rate(1℃/min.), residual compressive strength and residual flexural strength was evaluated. The specimens were cooled down to room temperature after heating. As a result, in the case of 100MPa high-strength concrete, the residual compressive strength enhancing effect of amorphous metallic fiber has showed with the mix proportion of fiber. In addition, residual flexural strength showed more regular pattern before 300℃ then residual compressive strength, but simillar decreasing behavior was shown after 300℃ like residual compressive strength. Further study about fiber pull-out behavior and fiber mechanical, chemical property change due to temperature is needed.
The signal-based acoustic emission (AE) characterization of concrete fracture process utilizing home-programmed AE monitoring system was performed for three kinds of static loading tests (Cubic-splitting, Direct-shear and Pull-out). Each test was carried out to induce a distinct fracture mode of concrete. Apart from monitoring and recording the corresponding fracture process of concrete, various methods were utilized to distinguish the characteristics of detected AE waveform to interpret the information of fracture behavior of AE sources (i.e. micro-cracks of concrete). Further, more signal-based characters of AE in different stages were analyzed and compared in this study. This research focused on the relationship between AE signal characteristics and fracture processes of concrete. Thereafter, the mode of concrete fracture could be represented in terms of AE signal characteristics. By using cement-based piezoelectric composite sensors, the AE signals could be detected and collected with better sensitivity and minimized waveform distortion, which made the characterization of AE during concrete fracture process feasible. The continuous wavelet analysis technique was employed to analyze the wave-front of AE and figure out the frequency region of the P-wave & S-wave. Defined RA (rising amplitude), AF (average frequency) and P-wave & S-wave importance index were also introduced to study the characters of AE from concrete fracture. It was found that the characters of AE signals detected during monitoring could be used as an indication of the cracking behavior of concrete.

Recently the use of steel fibers has been increased in flexural members and columns of concrete structures subjected to cyclic loadings; such as bridge decks, highway roads, runway of airport, buildings, etc.. However only a few experimental tests have been carried out under fatigue loading. In the present study, the reinforced concrete beams with 1% and 2% steel fiber volume fraction are investigated with and without stirrups. It has been found that in fatigue tests, the failure of the beam is usually due to breaking of fibers rather than fiber pull-out. A comparison of experiments and numerical analysis using the nonlinear F.E.M. program (ADINA) is also presented herein.
The wear behavior of thermal sprayed AlSiMg-40TiC composite coatings were studied as a function of load and sliding velocity under unlubricated conditions. Experiments were performed using a block-on-ring(WC-6wt%/Co, Hv 1500) type. The tests were carried out a various load(30∼ 125.5N) and sliding velocity(0.5∼2.0m/s). Three wear rate regions were observed in the AlSiMg-40TiC composite coatings. The wear rate in region I at low load (less then 8N( were less than 1×{TEX}$10^{-5}${/TEX}㎣/m. Low wear rates in region I resulted from the load-bearing capacity of TiC particles. The transition from region I to II occurred when the applied load exceeded the fracture and pull-out strength of the particles. The TiC fractured particles trapped between the specimen and the counterface acted as third-body abrasive wear. The subsurface layer worn surface in region II was composed of the mechanically mixed layer (MML). The wear rate increase abruptly above a critical load (region III). The high wear rate in region III was induced by frictional temperature and involves massive surface damage.

Thermosetting matrix composites have disadvantages in terms of moulding time, repairability and manufacturing cost. Thus the high-performance thermoplastic composites to eliminate such disadvantages have been developed so far. As a result of environmental and economical concerns, there is a growing interest in the use of thermoplastic composites. However, since their mechanical properties are very sensitive to the environment such as moisture, temperature etc., those behaviors need to be studied. Particularly the temperature is a very important factor influencing the mechanical behavior of thermoplastic composites. The effect of temperature have not yet been fully quantified. Since engineering applications of reinforced composites necessitate their fracture mechanics characterization, work is in progress to investigate the fracture and related failure behavior. An approach which predicts the tensile strength was perpormed in the tensile test. The main goal of this work is to study the effect of temperature on the result of tensile test with respect to GF/PE composite. The tensile strength and failure mechanisms of GF/PE composites were investigated in the temperature range $60^{\circ}C\;to\;-50^{\circ}C$. The tensile strength increased as the fiber volume fraction ratio increased. The tensile strength showed the maximum at $-50^{\circ}C$, and it tended to decrease as the temperature increased from $-50^{\circ}C$. The major failure mechanisms was classified into the fiber matrix debonding, the fiber pull-out, the delamination and the matrix deformation.
Nowadays, the general stripping work of form has brought some problems; increase of total constructing cost resulted from the man-dependent form work procedure and environmental issues by wasting the debonded form. In this study, to effectively reduce unnecessary cost and resolve the environmental problems caused by these kinds of reason, a permanent form method using stainless steel fiber was introduced then its material and structural characteristics were evaluated. In the case of material characteristic, the permanent form had a good ductile behavior in the result of flexural test of the permanent form panel and pull-out test of insert bolt which is installed in the permanent form and perfect bonding capacity with a field concrete. In the case of structural characteristic, compressive and tensile behavior of the permanent form was evaluated. It also showed a good structural behavior in the view of load-deflection relationship, crack patterns and additional strengthening effect.
