  • Background: Periosteum-mediated bone regeneration (PMBR) is a recognized method for mandibular reconstruction. Despite its unpredictable nature and the limited degree to which it is understood, it does not share the concerns of developmental changes to donor and recipient tissues that other treatment options do. The definitive role of the periosteum in bone regeneration in any mammal remains largely unexplored. The purpose of this study was to identify the genetic determinants of PMBR in mammals through a systematic review. Methods: Our search methodology was designed in accordance with the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis) guidelines. We conducted a quality assessment of each publication, and evaluated the differences in gene expression between days 7 and 15. Results: A total of four studies satisfied the inclusion criteria. The subjects and tissues examined in these studies were Wistar rat calvaria in two studies, mini-pigs in one study, and calves and mice in one study. Three out of the four studies achieved the necessary quality score of ≥ 3. Gene expression analysis showed increased activity of genes responsible for angiogenesis, cytokine activities, and immune-inflammatory responses on day 7. Additionally, genes related to skeletal development and signaling pathways were upregulated on day 15. Conclusions: The results suggest that skeletal morphogenesis is regulated by genes associated with skeletal development, and the gene expression patterns of PMBR may be characterized by specific pathways.

  • This study increases awareness of the survey and demand for libraries in correctional facilities, which have not received much attention so far, and is necessary for improving the operation of existing research and libraries in Korea, which is conducting a current status survey of most correctional facility libraries. The contents of the service operation of the external correctional facility library were explored and analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany, where correctional facility libraries are relatively well operated, are practically operating social rehabilitation programs while reducing recidivism of inmates, and library associations or local governments in each country are promoting the vitalization of correctional facility libraries. It helps and organizes committees or organizations involving related experts to discuss policy support, issue checks, research, report publication, drafting and revising guide guidelines, cooperation between libraries, and reflect them in actual operation. In addition, it maintains steady support and interest through public-private cooperation, and makes good use of the linkage system with local public libraries. As a result, it contributes to reducing the recidivism of prisoners. Through this study, the following three areas were suggested for the administrative improvement direction for correctional facility library services. First, the production and distribution of guidelines or guidebooks for correctional facility libraries, second, the establishment of a specialized correctional facility library organization within the correctional headquarters or library association, and third, the strengthening of activities and the operation of law libraries in correctional facilities.

  • Soft tissue tumor classifications should be an important part of radiology, oncology and, for clinicians and pathologists, they provide diagnostic instruction and prognostic guidelines. In soft tissue tumor classification systems, the World Health Organization (WHO) classifications have become dominant, enabled by the timely publication of new 'blue books' which included detailed text and numerous good illustrations. The new WHO classification of soft tissue tumors was introduced in 2002. Because the classification represents a broad consensus concept, it has gained widespread acceptance around the globe. This article reviews the changes which were introduced the adipose tumors, fibroblastic/myofibroblastic tumors, so-called fibrohistiocytic tumors, smooth muscle tumors, pericytic tumors and skeletal muscle tumors which have been first recognized or properly classified during the past decade.
