Social Determinants of Smoking Behavior: The Healthy Twin Study, Korea

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify any influence of socioeconomic status on smoking and smoking cessation in a situation where genetic factors are controlled. Methods: The sample for this study was 2502 members of the twins and families cohort who participated in the Korean Healthy Twins Study from 2005 to 2009. Groups of brothers or sisters, including twins and fraternal twins, were compared in terms of smoking and smoking cessation behaviors according to differences in socioeconomic status and gender. Results: In a situation with complete control of genetic factors, results showed that the daily smoking amount, cumulative smoking amount, and dependence on nicotine decreased with higher-status occupations, and the rate of smoking and amount of cumulative smoking decreased with higher levels of education. Regarding smoking cessation behavior, a higher level of education was associated with a lower smoking cessation rate, and no significant gender differences were found. Conclusions: Environmental factors had a stronger influence on smoking behavior than did genetic factors. Genetic factors had greater influence on smoking cessation than did environmental factors; however, this requires verification in further studies.

Inhibition of Proliferation and Induction of Apoptosis by the Combination of β-carotene and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 in Human Esophageal Cancer EC9706 Cells

  • Esophageal cancer is a common malignant tumor occurring in human esophageal epithelial tissue. The primary purpose of this paper was to define the effects of ${\beta}$-carotene and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin $D_3$, alone and in combination, on cell proliferation, cell cycle and apoptosis of human esophageal cancer EC9706 cells. Treatment with different concentrations of ${\beta}$-carotene and/or 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin $D_3$. MTT assay showed that ${\beta}$-carotene and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin $D_3$ significantly inhibited proliferation of EC9706 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Further studies also demonstrated that ${\beta}$-carotene alone or 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin $D_3$ alone caused a marked increase on the induction of apoptosis in EC9706 cells. The percentage of G0/G1-phase cells significantly increased on addition of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin $D_3$ alone, but there were no significant changes with ${\beta}$-carotene alone. These two agents in combination synergistically inhibited cell growth and induced apoptosis. Therefore, our results indicate that ${\beta}$-carotene and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin $D_3$ in combination may provide a novel strategy for preventing and treating esophageal cancer.

공공형 어린이집 교사 양성에 대한 교육요구도 (The Curriculum Need for a Public Child-care Teacher)

  • 본 연구는 현장 중심의 어린이집 교사 양성 교육과정을 개발하기 위하여 교사, 원장, 보육관련학과 재학생 257명을 대상으로 실시되었으며, 직무요구조사 질문지를 사용하였다. 결과처리는 빈도분석, t-검증, 교차분석, ANOVA 검증 및 Sch$\acute{e}$ffe 사후검증을 실시하였다. 결과는 첫째, 공공형 어린이집에서는 전문대 출신 보육교사에 대하여 채용을 긍정적으로 생각하고, 채용 시 성실성과 수업능력을 중요하게 생각하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 원장 및 교사들은 보육교사 자격증이 중요하다고 생각한데 비하여 재학생들은 유치원 정교사 자격증과 각종 실기관련 자격증이 필요하다고 생각하여 차이를 보였다. 둘째, 원장과 재학생은 공공형 어린이집 직무 중 교수학습준비 및 실제, 학부모 상담, 아동보호 및 안전 관련 업무를 중요하게 생각하였고, 교사들은 공공형 어린이집 직무 중 교수학습준비 및 실제, 학부모 상담, 시설관련 업무를 중요하게 생각하는 것으로 나타나 이 부분에 대한 보육현장중심의 교육과정개발이 강화되어야 하는 것으로 나타났다.

미국 공공도서관의 성인을 위한 디지털 리터러시 교육에 관한 연구 (A Study on Digital Literacy Education for Adults in US Public Libraries)

  • 디지털 리터러시는 ICT 기술이 고도로 발달한 디지털 사회에서 일의 능률을 높이고 삶을 영위하기 위한 필수적인 역량이 된다. 세계의 선진 국가들은 국민의 디지털 리터러시를 향상시키고 디지털 격차를 해소하기 위해 많은 노력을 수행해왔다. 본 논문은 이들 중 노인을 포함한 성인의 디지털 리터러시 향상을 위한 미국 공공도서관의 사례를 조사 분석한 것이다. 이를 위해 프로그램 우수 사례 도서관을 중심으로 디지털 리터러시 교육 프로그램 유형, 교육 방식 및 내용 현황을 조사 분석하고 담당사서들과의 인터뷰를 통해 운영 실태를 파악하였다. 다수의 교육 프로그램이 기본적인 컴퓨터나 인터넷 기술에 관한 것이었고 Micro Office, 이메일, 소셜미디어, 스마트폰이나 태블릿 PC 사용에 관한 교육 프로그램의 비중도 높게 나타났다. 가장 빈번하고 일상적으로 이루어지는 교육 방식은 비공식적인 현장교육이었고 그것의 교육 내용과 수준은 매우 다양하게 나타났다. 추가로 디지털 리터러시 교육을 위해 공공도서관 담당사서들은 사서의 디지털 역량과 이를 위한 재교육을 가장 중요하게 생각하고 있었고 디지털 리터러시 교육 프로그램 운영에 적합한 도서관 시설과 최신 장비 도입, 시기적절한 다양한 프로그램 개발과 홍보의 중요성도 함께 제기하였다.

기록영화 식코를 활용한 수업콘텐츠가 국민건강보험제도에 대한 인식과 태도에 미치는 효과 (The effects of General Education Content using Documentary Film on Perception and Attitudes towards National Health Insurance System)

  • 이 연구에서는 기록영화 <식코>를 활용한 교양수업이 수강생의 국민건강보험제도에 대한 인식과 태도에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 우리나라는 전 국민을 대상으로 공적 건강보험제도를 운영하고 있으나 선진국보다 상대적으로 낮은 보장성과 의료공급자의 저수가에 대한 불만, 그리고 민간의료보험 가입 확대로 인해 공보험의 역할 강화 노력에 대한 국민의 지지를 당연하게 기대하기 어려워 보인다. 국민건강보험제도는 전 국민의 의료서비스에 대한 접근성 강화 뿐 아니라 보험료에 따른 급여서비스 차별이 없어 민간보험에 비해 저소득층에 대한 의료보장에 있어 중요한 기능을 한다. 노인인구가 급격하게 증가하고 건강에 대한 국민적 관심이 높은 만큼 공적 건강보험제도의 지속과 역할 강화는 중요한 사안이며, 이는 국민적 지지를 바탕으로 이루어져야 할 것이다. 이에 일개 대학의 교양과목 수강생을 대상으로 민간보험의 부정적인 측면을 지적한 <식코>의 내용을 수업 콘텐츠로 학습하고, 학습 전후의 국민건강보험에 대한 태도를 비교하였다. 실증분석 결과를 바탕으로 제도에 대한 이해를 도모하는 데에 활용할 수 있는 교육콘텐츠 개발에 대하여 논하였다.

공무원 양성평등의식 교육의 경험 및 태도 조사 - 대전시공무원을 대상으로 - (Research on Experiences and Attitudes Toward the Gender Egalitarianism Education of Public Service Workers in Daejeon City)

  • 공무원의 양성평등의식은 태도와 행동으로만 존재하는 것이 아니고 정책도구로 활용되고 있다는 점에서 중요하므로 그들이 자신의 업무를 성 인지적 관점에서 분석하고 기획할 수 있는 구체적인 실무 능력이 함양되도록 양성평등의식이 개발되어야 한다. 본 연구는 대전시 공무원(남성 699명, 여성 457명)을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 양성평등의식 교육의 경험과 태도를 조사하였다. 그 결과는 양성평등의식 교육의 바람직한 변화를 유도하는데 활용될 수 있을 것이다. 분석결과 양성평등의식 교육에 참여하고자 하는 의지가 남성이 여성보다 낮음을 알 수 있었다. 양성평등의식 교육을 확대하기 위해서는 교육 참여의 동기부여 및 법제화와 함께 성, 연령, 직급에 따른 다양한 형태의 교육프로그램의 개발이 필요하다.

초등학생의 결핵 예방교육 후 지식, 태도 및 예방행위에 대한 지속성 연구 (A Study on Continuity of Knowledge, Attitude, and Preventive Behavior among Elementary School Students after Tuberculosis Prevention Education)

  • Purpose: This study was to examine the changes in knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors among elementary school students after providing them with tuberculosis prevention education. Methods: A total of 235 students from D elementary school in G city were selected. After completing tuberculosis prevention education, the subjects were surveyed five times for 16 weeks. 1,087 samples were included in the final analysis. One-way ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}$'s test, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis were performed to examine the changes in tuberculosis-related knowledge, attitudes and preventive behaviors over time. Results: After 16 weeks from the education, the scores of preventive behaviors did not show any significant difference compared to the time right after the education. However, the scores of knowledge and attitudes tended to improve. In particular, 1st~2nd graders had high scores in both knowledge and attitude, and the scores of knowledge and attitude gradually increased over time. The correlation between knowledge, attitude, and preventive behavior regarding tuberculosis had a positive significance during the entire time of the survey. Conclusion: Positive associations between knowledge and attitude and between attitude and preventive behavior sustained for 16 weeks after tuberculosis education among elementary school students. This study suggests that tuberculosis prevention education conducted early on from lower grades can produce more educational effects and that it could be a foundation not only for developing knowledge of tuberculosis but also for cultivating adequate attitudes and forming active tuberculosis preventive behaviors.

학령전기 아동을 둔 어머니의 자녀 성교육에 대한 부모효능감 영향 요인 (Influencing Factors of Marital Intimacy and Sexual Knowledge on Parental Efficacy of Mothers with Preschoolers on Child Sexual Education)

  • Purpose: This paper reports the results of a descriptive study that aims to identify the factors that affect the parental efficacy of mothers with preschoolers on child sexual education. Methods: Using a structured questionnaire, data were collected from 189 mothers who had preschoolers in four kindergartens in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province from June to August, 2015. Results: The factors that had an effect on the parental efficacy of mothers with preschoolers on child sexual education were marital intimacy (${\beta}=.32$, p<.001), the degree of perceived sexual knowledge (${\beta}=.29$, p<.001), sexual education experience from one's parents (${\beta}=.21$, p=.001), and educational level (${\beta}=.14$, p=.021); the explanatory power was 28.9%. Conclusion: The factors affecting the parental efficacy of mothers with preschoolers on child sexual education were marital intimacy, subjective sexual knowledge, sexual education experience from one's parents, and the educational level. In developing a sex education program for mothers with preschoolers, it is necessary to reflect the contents that can enhance marital intimacy. In addition, it is necessary to develop a differentiated mother sex education program considering her demographic characteristics and career in sexual health.

캄보디아의 간호교육 현황 및 이슈 (The Current Issues of Nursing Education in Cambodia)

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the current issues and challenges of the nursing education program in Cambodia and to suggest recommendations to improve it. Methods: The World Health Organization Global Standards for the Initial Education of Nurses and Midwives were used as the analytic framework. Data were collected through a critical, constructive analysis of the literature, as well as observation with stakeholders in the area. Results: Cambodia experienced a shortage of nurses based on the demands of nurses. Moreover, the lack of institutional capacity, out dated and rudimentary nursing curriculum, under qualified nursing faculty, overcrowded classrooms, and lack of fundamental education materials and equipment for nursing education hampered the maintenance and improvement of the quality of pre-service nursing education in Cambodia. Conclusion: Strengthening the nursing educational resources and infrastructures, along with proper retention and enhancement of the faculty's capacity, clinical mentorship, and sustainable management of the nursing curriculum were recommended. Integrating the nursing theory and process into clinical practice and using strategic partnerships, would improve the quality and quantity of nursing education in Cambodia. There needs to be a synergistic relationship between nursing education and training relevant to the nursing care to meet the needs of the Cambodian population.

방문간호사가 지각하는 다문화가족의 건강교육 요구 (A Study on Health Education Needs of the Multicultural Family as Perceived by Visiting Nurses)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify health education needs of the multicultural family as perceived by visiting nurses. Methods: Mixed method was applied. A questionnaire was distributed to 184 visiting nurses. Three focus group interviews were subsequently conducted in order to obtain a greater understanding of nurses' experience of health education. Results: Visiting nurses were mainly providing education about pregnancy, delivery and baby care. Health education needs of the multicultural family as perceived by visiting nurses were classified according to four categories : diet, hygiene, contraception and family planning, and communication. Barriers to health education of visiting nurses were a lack of adequate health education materials and communication problems. Conclusion: To achieve effective health care of the multicultural family by visiting nurses, customized multi-language health education material focusing on five subjects, pregnancy and delivery, diet, hygiene, contraception and family planning, and communication, with easy terms and simple paragraphs is required.
