  • In this paper, we develop a design methodology of Granular-based Radial Basis Function Neural Networks(GRBFNN) by context-based clustering. In contrast with the plethora of existing approaches, here we promote a development strategy in which a topology of the network is predominantly based upon a collection of information granules formed on a basis of available experimental data. The output space is granulated making use of the K-Means clustering while the input space is clustered with the aid of a so-called context-based fuzzy clustering. The number of information granules produced for each context is adjusted so that we satisfy a certain reconstructability criterion that helps us minimize an error between the original data and the ones resulting from their reconstruction involving prototypes of the clusters and the corresponding membership values. In contrast to "standard" Radial Basis Function neural networks, the output neuron of the network exhibits a certain functional nature as its connections are realized as local linear whose location is determined by the values of the context and the prototypes in the input space. The other parameters of these local functions are subject to further parametric optimization. Numeric examples involve some low dimensional synthetic data and selected data coming from the Machine Learning repository.

  • This study developed a vest prototype capable of monitoring body temperature using textile electrodes to prevent the sudden death of babies as well as to determine the quality of developed products by evaluating usability with commercial products. Based on the results of the 7th Size Korea Project, a basic pattern for a vest prototype was drafted by applying the average size of two-year-old Korean babies. Two prototypes were the detachable (VEST I) and integrated textile electrodes vest type (VEST II), which followed the same design. The materials were 100% cotton single jersey (SJ) and double jersey (DJ). Six experts evaluated the usability of the developed vests (VEST I & VEST II) and commercial product (VEST M). The single-layer woven textile electrode appeared to have a slightly higher conductivity than the double-layer one. There was no statistical difference in the body temperature sensing function between VEST I and VEST II. Finally, the superiority of the VEST I was verified through a comparison with commercial products (VEST M). The usability test suggested that a wearable smart clothing system of the integrated conductive textile could be further commercialized for bio-monitor applications in Ubiquitous-health care.

  • International standards claim the best possible reliability in industrial manufacturing processes. This is also essential for the application with manual applicators. The application of adhesives with manual applicators is one of the most frequently used application techniques. The range of application reaches from the building of prototypes in the automobile industry over the use in single or small-batch manufacturing up to applications in crafts enterprises. Conventional manual applicators for adhesives and sealants don't fulfill the demands in international standards for the best possible reliability. Only the worker is able to control the quality and the quantity of the bond. A velocity-controlled manual applicator solves these restrictions. Special sensors and micro controllers calculate the flow-rate, the velocity and the location of the manual applicator. This leads to stable and repeatable application processes which are claimed in international standards. The location of the bond can be compared with the nominal value, so that it is possible to check the quality of the bond during application. Furthermore there is the potential to document the data of the manufacturing process.

  • This paper intends to improve caddies' vocational efficiency, to increase the quality of caddies' services for customers, and further, to widen the application of smart clothes by proposing prototypes of smart uniforms in which caddies' vocational characteristics are reflected. The smart uniforms proposed by this study were restricted to those for spring and fall seasons and three types for a jacket, a turtle neck shirt, pants, and a jumper were proposed. Each design was developed to contain functionality and aesthetic, and also to be transformed subject to weather or other conditions. In addition, the uniforms were designed to carry not only a two-way radio and a remote controller for a cart that caddies necessarily carry, but also i-Pod, a distance meter, and other digital tools by use of solar cells. That is, this paper proposed the designs that can meet with caddies' vocational characteristics and different conditions. This paper is regarded meaningful in that smart clothes, which are forecasted as a future high value-added business, are applied to the uniforms of various job types so they can expand me existing functions of uniforms and further, think about the ways of being used for higher value-added products through the fusion with technologies.

  • In this research, we are trying to develop the new hydraulic driven tire roller which is conventionally operated by mechanical transmission system. The reason why we would like to develop it is that tire roller is one of the most useful machine for the road construction site and also imported totally from overseas. In this paper, we conceptualize the new hydraulic system and derive the equations of motion for dynamic analysis. And we investigate system modeling by using DAQ system. Finally, we will design the controller, which can manage the hydraulic circuit of steering and traction mechanism system. The advent of modern high-speed computers coupled with the application of high-fidelity simulation technology can be used to create “virtual prototypes of construction equipment. Tests conducted on these virtual prototypes may be used to augment actual machine testing, thereby lowering costs and shortening time to production. So, we studied tire roller to integrate development technology. In System Analysis, We formulate hydraulic driving system model and hydraulic steering system model. Also, We integrate DAQ system to acquire experimental result in real tire roller equipment.

  • RDA(Relational Discriminant Analysis) is a way of finding classifiers based on the dissimilarity measures among the prototypes extracted from feature vectors instead of the feature vectors themselves. Therefore, the accuracy of the RDA classifier is dependent on the methods of selecting prototypes and measuring proximities. In this paper we propose to utilize PRS(Prototype Reduction Schemes) and Mahalanobis distances to devise a method of increasing classification accuracies. Our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed mechanism increases the classification accuracy compared with the conventional approaches for samples involving real-life data sets as well as artificial data sets.

  • Ultrasonic flip-chip bonding needs a precise bonding tool which delivers ultrasonic energy into chip bumps effectively to use the selected resonance mode and frequency of the horn structure. The bonding tool is excited at the resonance frequency and the input and output ports should locate at the anti-nodal points of the resonance mode. In this study, we propose new design method with topology optimization for ultrasonic bonding tools. The SIMP(solid isotropic material with penalization) method is used to formulate topology optimization and OC(optimal criteria) algorithm is adopted for the update scheme. MAC(modal assurance criterion) tracking is used for the target frequency and mode. We fabricate two prototypes of ultrasonic tools which are based on 3D optimization models after reviewing 2D and 3D topology optimization results. The prototypes are satisfied with the ultrasonic frequency and vibration amplitude as the ultrasonic bonding tools.
