  • PEBAX[poly(ether-block-amide)-ZIF-8(zeolitic imidazolate framework) composite membranes were prepared with different amounts of ZIF-8; 0, 1, 3, 7, 10, and 20 wt%. Gas permeation experiment were performed by varying the temperature of 25, 35, $40^{\circ}C$ under condition $6kgf/cm^2$. Gas permeability of $C_3H_6$, $C_3H_8$ and selectivity ($C_3H_6/C_3H_8$) were investigated by increasing the amount of ZIF-8 in the PEBAX. The gas permeability of $C_3H_6$ and $C_3H_8$ increased as ZIF-8 content increased among 0 to 7 wt% range and decreased among 7 to 20 wt% range. When the ZIF contents of PEBAX-ZIF composite membrane were 7 wt%, the selectivity ($C_3H_6/C_3H_8$) was taken between 3.6 and 3.8 value and also had the lowest activation energy.

  • In this paper, alternative natural refrigerant R290(Propane), R600(Butane), R717(Ammonia), R1270(Propylene) for freon refrigerant R22 were used working fluids for 2-stage compression and 1-stage expansion refrigeration system. The operating parameters considered in this study included evaporation temperature, condensation temperature, subcooling degree, superheating degree, mass flow rate ratio of inter-cooler. The main results were summarized as follows : The COP of 2-stage compression and 1-stage expansion refrigeration system increases with the increasing subcooling degree and mass flow rate ration of inter-cooler, but decreases with the increasing evaporating temperature, condensing temperature and superheating degree. Therefore, subcooling degree, mass flow rate ratio of inter-cooler of 2-stage compression and 1-stage expansion refrigeration system using natural refrigerants have an effect on COP of this system. The COP of natural refrigerants was higher than the COP of freon R22 in this study, so points to be considered are the security, the attached facilities for natural refrigerants than COP.

  • Conversion of propane to acrylonitrile via ammoxidation was studied using physically mixed catalysts composed of $Nb_2O_5(10{\sim}30wt%)$ and $V_{0.4}Mo_1Te_{0.1}$. Catalytic activities of ammoxidation were improved by adding strong acidic niobium oxide to $V_{0.4}Mo_1Te_{0.1}$, the selectivities to acrylonitrile+propylene being remained constant. The maximum activity was obtained at the mixing ratio 25wt% niobium oxide in $Nb_2O_5-V_{0.4}Mo_1Te_{0.1}$. Niobium oxide was found to be a selective catalyst for the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane.

  • The development of sail gas has increased the production of ethane as well as natural gas. The decline in the market price for ethane has led to a change in the petroleum-based ethylene production process into an ethane-based ethylene production process and an increase in the ethane/ethylene trade volume. Large-scale ethane/ethylene carrier have been needed due to an increase in long-distance trade from the US, and cargo type change have leaded to consider a liquefaction process to re-liquefy Boil-Off gas generated during the voyage. In this paper, the liquefaction system of Liquefied Ethane Gas carrier was evaluated with Low-GWP (Low-Global Warming Potential) refrigerant and process parameters, Boil-Off Gas pressure and expansion valve outlet pressure, were optimized. Low-GWP refrigerants were propane (R290), propylene(R1270), carbon dioxide(R744) was considered at two type of liquefaction process such as Linde and cascade cycle. The results show that the optimal pressure point depends on the individual refrigerant and the highest liquefaction efficiency of carbon dioxide (R744) - propane (R290) refrigerant.

  • The synthesis of borosilicate consisted of boron and silicon was stadied. The composition, acidity and adsorption characteristics of synthesized borosilicate were examined. The synthesis rate increased with temperature and concentration of $Na_2O$, but the enhansing effects were different according to the reaction conditons. The synthesis process could be simulated by solution transfer mechanism assuming that crystals grow on the surface of crystal or nuclei with dissolved reactant. Adsorption characteristics of synthesized borosilicate was discussed with temperature programmed desorption patterns of ammonia and propylene and adsorption isotherms of propylene and propane.

  • Complex membranes consisting of silver salt ($AgBF_4,\;AgCF_3SO_3,\;AgSbF_6,\;AgNO_3$) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) or crosslinked PVA (CPVA) were prepared and tested for the separation of propylene/propane mixtures. For the tested membranes, the complex membranes containing $AgBF_4$ exhibited the highest separation properties, i.e., approximately 20 GPU ($1 GPU=10^{-6}cm^3 (STP)/(cm^2 sec cmHg)$) and 100 of selectivity at 0.2 of silver mole fraction. The CPVA membranes containing silver salt always showed higher selectivity than PVA membranes, presenting silver ions coordinated to -CHO are more effective than those to -OH groups. The threshold silver concentration of CPVA membranes was lower than that of PVA membranes, which might be due to stronger interaction of silver ions with -CHO than that with -OH. The composition at which the selectivity is the highest did not significantly depend on the crosslinking, but did on the kind of silver salt.

  • A simple mathematical model for facilitated mass transport through a fixed site carrier membrane was derived by assuming an instantaneous, microscopic concentration (activity) fluctuation. The current model demonstrates that the facilitation factor depends on the extent of concentration fluctuation, the time scale ratios of diffusion to chemical reaction and the ratio of the carrier concentration to the solute solubility in matrix. The model was examined against the experimental data on oxygen transport in membranes containing metallo-porphyrin carriers, and the agreement was exceptional (within 10% error). The basic concept of this approach was applied to separate olefin from olefin/paraffin mixtures. A proprietaty carrier, developed here, resulted that the selectivity of propylene over propane was more than 120 and the propylene permeance exceed 40 gpu.

  • In this study, lower flammability limits (LFLs) of three hydrocarbon refrigerants (R600a, R290, R1270) and two hydrofluorocarbon refrigerants (R152a, R32) and DME (RE170) are measured by the method proposed by ASTM E681-04 Standard. Flammability tests are carried out at three temperatures of $23^{\circ}C,\;60^{\circ}C\;and\;100^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity 50%. Test results show that the present data for isobutane and propane obtained at $23^{\circ}C$ are similar to those found in the literature, confirming indirectly the reliability of the present test method and facility. For propylene, R152a, and R32, LFLs found in the literature differ considerably. Especially, the deviation of LFL of propylene is more than 30% among the literature data. The present data for propylene, R152a, and R32 agree with either of the data sets available. As the temperature increases from $23^{\circ}C\;to\;100^{\circ}C$, LFLs of all refrigerants tested decrease. LFLs of most refrigerants tested in this study at $60^{\circ}C$ decrease by $0.1{\sim}0.3%$ as compared to those at $23^{\circ}C$. Also LFLs of most refrigerants tested in this study at $100^{\circ}C$ decrease by $0.1{\sim}0.3%$ as compared to those at $60^{\circ}C$.

  • The $Pt-Sn/Al_2O_3$ catalysts mixed with metal oxides for propane dehydrogenation were studied. $Cu-Mn/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$, $Ni-Mn/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$, $Cu/{\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ was prepared and mixed with $Pt-Sn/Al_2O_3$ to measure the activity for propane dehydrogenation. As standard sample, $Pt-Sn/Al_2O_3$ catalyst mixed with glassbead was adopted. In the case of catalytic activity test after non-reductive pretreatment of catalyst and metal oxide, $Pt-Sn/Al_2O_3$ mixed with $Cu-Mn/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ showed higher conversion of 15% and similar selectivity at $576.5^{\circ}C$, compared to conversion of 8% in standard sample. In the case of catalytic activity test after reductive pretreatment of catalyst and metal oxde, $Cu/{\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ showed higer yield than standard sample. But, increase of yield of most of samples after reductive pretreatment was not significant, so it was found that lattice oxygen of $Cu-Mn/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ is effective to propane dehydrogenation.
