  • A one-upper warehouse n-lower retailer inventory model is discussed. The probability distribution of demand for a given perod is independent. The inventory holding cost is proportional to the number of unsold units and the cost of shortages is proportional to the number of shortages. In the event of a shortage, units are redistributed with a cost proportional to the number of units from the retailers which are a surplus at the end of the period. The optimum stock levels are obtained and the effects of redistribution are analized.

  • In this paper we consider the proportional hazard models for survival analysis in the microarray data. For a given vector of response values and gene expressions (covariates), we address the issue of how to reduce the dimension by selecting the significant genes. In our approach, rather than fixing the number of selected genes, we will assign a prior distribution to this number. To implement our methodology, we use a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method.

  • We propose a simple nonparametric estimator of relative risk in the two sample case of the proportional hazards model for complete data. The asymptotic distribution of this estimator is derived using a functional equation. We obtain the asymptotic normality of the proposed estimator and compare with Begun's estimator by confidence interval through simulations.

  • In this paper a methodology of identifying individual pipes according to the internal and external characteristics of pipe is developed, and the methodology is applied to a case study water distribution pipe break database. Using the newly defined individual pipes the hazard rates of the cast iron 6 inch pipes are modeled by implementing the proportional hazards modeling approach for consecutive pipe failures. The covariates to be considered in the modeling procedures are selected by considering the general availability of the data and the practical applicability of the modeling results. The individual cast iron 6 inch pipes are categorized into seven ordered survival time groups according to the total number of breaks recorded in a pipe to construct distinct proportional hazard model (PHM) for each survival time group (STG). The modeling results show that all of the PHMs have the hazard rate forms of the Weibull distribution. In addition, the estimated baseline survivor functions show that the survival probabilities of the STGs generally decrease as the number of break increases. It is found that STG I has an increasing hazard rate whereas the other STGs have decreasing hazard rates. Regarding the first failure the hazard ratio of spun-rigid and spun-flex cast iron pipes to pit cast iron pipes is estimated as 1.8 and 6.3, respectively. For the second or more failures the relative effects of pipe material/joint type on failure were not conclusive. The degree of land development affected pipe failure for STGs I, II, and V, and the average hazard ratio was estimated as 1.8. The effects of length on failure decreased as more breaks occur and the population in a GRID affected the hazard rate of the first pipe failure.

  • This study is to evaluate the overall NPP(Net Primary Productions distribution in the Korean Peninsula from the satellite data(NOAA/AVHRR). This has been done using the linear relationship between the natural vegetation condition and the NPP. The NPP of natural vegetation increases proportional to the annual net radiation(Rn), where radiative dorless Index(RDI) is a proportional constant connecting Rn to NPP. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI) Is used for monitoring vegetation change, and INDVI (Integrated NDVI) for annual analysis. The INDVI has a close relation to .Rn and NPP. which can be used effectively for estimating NPP distribution of where the meteorological data Is unavailable such as North Korea. The NPP distribution of the Korean Peninsula was estimated based on the model.

  • Because of linear operation by direct drive and compact system, and the free accumulation of position error, LPM is suitable for proportional control valves actuator. In this study, to develop electromagnetic proportional valves actuator we designed tooth shape of double sides LPM and suggested the driving principle based upon the excitation method, It's the magnetic structure is so complex by the cubic effect configuration that finite element analysis is required. By the 3D finite element analysis, we got the magnetic distribution of LPM and analyzed static thrust force characteristics. By this analyzation, we obtained basic data required for the practical use of driving system for the proportional control valves. Thus, considering electrical and mechanical constants we could design and manufacture double sides LPM for the proportional control valves.

  • Stress distribution under a driving lugged wheel was obtained by photoelastic method. The distribution showed two distinct parts, one part is due to sinkage and other due to compression. Results of the study are summarized as follows. 1. The tangential reactions of sinkage as well as compressing parts were directly proportional to tangential load to the driving wheel, that's appeared to be thrust of the driving wheel. The normal reactions of both sinkage and compressing parts were directly proportional to the vertical load to the driving wheel, that's appeared to be resistance against wheel motion. 2. When the tangential load was constant, changing the vertical load did not show any significant thrust variation of the driving wheel. 3. Under the condition of this experiment, the ratio of vertical load to tangential load (T.L/V.L) must be greater than 1.0 in order for the wheel to roll.

  • Effects of the ram-pressure on the THD-performance of pivoted pad thrust bearings are investigated experimentally. A sector-shaped tilting pad thrust bearing and a rotating disk are used. Temperature distribution on the disk surface as well as on the pad surface, distribution of the pressure generated within the fluid film, and the film thickness are measured continuously in the circumferential direction after thermal equilibrium is established. The ram-pressure is proportional to the mean pressure of oil film and to the rotational speed of the disk and affects the maximum pressure and the pressure distribution. The temperature rise on the mating surface of the disc and the pad, contacting with the oil film, is proportional to to the bearing load and the disk speed. The ram-pressure and the temperature rise on the disk surface are dominant factors that affect the THD-performance of pivoted pad thrust bearings.

  • In bicycle design, saddle is the major part which effects the subjective comfort of rider. This study examines the correlation between the subjective comfort and elastic body pressure. The elastic body pressure measuring instrument for free-form surface such as saddle is developed by force sensor register, A/D converter and computer. The subjective comfort is measured quantit- atively by 11-point scale method and the elastic body pressure distribution is obtained through 3 different saddles at 4 postures. The pressure distribution is presented by computerized equi- pressure contour. While mean pressure, standard deviation of pressure, maximum pressure are inversely proportional to subjective comfort, the modified saddle-bearing weight which is the surface integral of pressure is directly proportional. Consequently, standard deviation of pressure is most important characteristic which affects variation of subjective comfort.

  • Particles of soil are crushed when soil is compacted in the in-situ or lab. Among many factors that affect the crush of particles, compaction energy is a major factor. Because the crush of particles can change physical properties, the analysis of effect of compaction energy is very important. In this study, the fragmentation fractals were used for determining the change in grain size distribution and the effect due to change in grain size distribution was estimated. Compaction energy was increased by 50, 100, 200 and 300% based on the energy of standard A compaction test. As a result, grain size distribution curves were changed and fine particles increased as compaction energy were increased. Relative compaction were ranged between $93.38{\sim}107.67$. Fractal dimension of each site increased as compaction energy increased. Relative compaction is proportional to the fractal dimension but coefficients of permeability were in inverse proportional to the involution of fractal dimension.
