  • Recently, digital contents including video and sound are created in various fields, transmitted to the cloud through the Internet, and then stored and used. In order to utilize digital content, it is essential to verify data integrity, and it is necessary to ensure network bandwidth efficiency of verified data. This paper describes the design and implementation of a server that maintains, manages, and provides data for verifying the integrity of video data. The server receives and stores image data from Logger, a module that acquires image data, and performs a function of providing data necessary for verification to Verifier, a module that verifies image data. Then, a lightweight Merkle tree is constructed using the hash value. The light-weight Merkle tree can quickly detect integrity violations without comparing individual hash values of the corresponding video frame changes of the video frame indexes of the two versions. A lightweight Merkle tree is constructed by generating a hash value of digital content so as to have network bandwidth efficiency, and the result of performing proof of integrity verification is presented.

  • Excessive memory buffer requirement in continuous media playback is a serious impediment of wide spread usage of on-line multimedia service. Skewed access frequency of available video files provides an opportunity of re-using the date blocks which has been loaded by one session for later usage. We present novel algorithm which minimizes the buffer requirement in multiple sessions of multimedia playbacks. In continuous media playback originated from the disk, a certain amount of memory buffer is required to synchronize asynchronous disk. Read operation and synchronous playback operation. As aggregate playback bandwodth increases, larger amount of buffer needs to be allocated for this synchronization purpose. The focus of this work is to study the asymptotic behavior of the synchronization buffer requirement and to develop an algorithm coping with this excessive buffer requirement under bandwidth congestioon. We argue that in a large scale continuous media server, it may not be necessary to read the blocks for each session directly from the disk. The beauty of our work lies in the fact that it dynamically adapts to disk utilization of the server and finds the optimal way of servicinh the individual sessions while minimizing the overall buffer space requirement. Optimality of the proposed algorithm is shown by proof. The effectiveness and performance of the proposed scheme is examined via simulation.

  • Since seismic inversion is based on the wave equation, it is important to calculate the solution of wave equation exactly. In particular, full waveform inversion would produce reliable results only when the forward modeling is accurately performed because it uses full waveform. When we use finite-difference or finite-element method to solve the wave equation, the convergence of numerical scheme should be guaranteed. Although the general proof of convergence is provided theoretically, the consistency and stability of numerical schemes should be verified for practical applications. The implementation of source function is the most crucial factor for the consistency of modeling schemes. While we have to use the sinc function normalized by grid spacing to correctly describe the Dirac delta function in the finite-difference method, we can simply use the value of basis function, regardless of grid spacing, to implement the Dirac delta function in the finite-element method. If we use frequency-domain wave equation, we need to use a conservative criterion to determine both sampling interval and maximum frequency for the source wavelet generation. In addition, the source wavelet should be attenuated before applying it for modeling in order to make it obey damped wave equation in case of using complex angular frequency. With these conditions satisfied, we can develop reliable inversion algorithms.
