The purpose of this study was to investigate the nature of pre-service elementary teachers' metaphors on mathematics textbooks. Their metaphors describe individual and collective patterns of thinking and action on mathematics teaching and learning. To analyze their metaphors, qualitative analysis method based on Lakoff and Johnson's theory of metaphor (1980) was adopted. Metaphors on mathematics textbooks were elicited from 161 pre-service elementary school teachers through writing prompts. The writing prompt responses revealed three types and thirteen categories: As Type I, there were (1) 'Principles', (2) 'Summary', (3) 'Manual', (4) 'Encyclopedia', (5) 'Code', (6) 'Guidelines', and (7) 'Example'. As TypeII, there were (9) 'Assistant', (10) 'Friend', (11) 'Scale', and (12) 'Ongoing'. As TypeIII, there was (13) 'Trap'. Among these categories, 'Guidelines', 'Assistant', and 'Ongoing' were the most frequently revealed. These results indicate that the relations of mathematics curriculum, textbooks, and classrooms are not a unilateral way but should communicate with each other.

Unilateral vocal cord paralysis occurs from a dysfunction of the recurrent laryngeal nerve. It causes a characteristic hoarseness, shortness of breath and swallowing disability. Prompt injection laryngoplasty is a treatment options that aims to improve these symptoms less invasively and easily than any other procedures. Cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) is widely used injection material. It is non-mammalian polysaccharides derived from streptococcus strain and well known for its duration in vocal cord about 3-6 months after injection. However, there were no complication reports such as infection or rejection after HA injection laryngoplasty in previous report. We present a case of patient with laryngeal abscess after transcricothyroid membrane percutaneous HA injection laryngoplasty.

Intradural lumbar disc herniation[ILDH] is a rare pathology. The pathogenesis of ILDH is not known with certainty. Adhesions between the ventral wall of the dura and the posterior longitudinal ligament[PLL] could act as a preconditioning factor. Diagnosis of ILDH is difficult and seldom suspected preoperatively. Prompt surgery is necessary because the neurologic prognosis appears to be closely related to preoperative duration of neurologic symptoms. Despite preoperatively significant neurological deficits, the prognosis following surgery is relatively good. We report on case of ILDH at L3/4 with differential diagnoses, and the possible pathogenic factors are discussed.

I. Objectives This study investigated the dentin shear bond strength and the degree of conversion (DC) of currently used dentin bonding agents (DBAs) that were irradiated with a light emitting diode (LED) light curing unit (LCU) and a halogen LCU. II. Materials and methods The halogen LCU and the LED LCU used in this study were a VIP(Bisco, Schaumburg, IL, USA) and an Elipar Freelight(3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA) respectively. For the VIP, $400mW{\cdot}cm-2$ intensity mode was used to adjust to the intensity of the LED LCU. The DBAs used in this study were Scotchbond Multipurpose (3M ESPE), Single Bond (3M ESPE), One-step(Bisco), Clearfil SE Bond(Kuraray), and Adper Prompt(3M ESPE).(omitted)

I. Objectives The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal microleakage of Prompt L-Pop, AQ Bond, One-Up Bond F, Futurabond, and Xeno III in Class V cavity. II. Materials and Methods One hundred Class V direct resin restorations were placed in the buccal and lingual surfaces of 50 extracted human molars. Each cavity had occlusal margin in enamel and gingival margin in dentin. Teeth were randomly divided into five groups and restored using one of the single step adhesives and composite resins.(omitted)

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the etching effects and bond strength of total etching and self-etching adhesive system on unground enamel using scanning electron microscopy and microtensile bond strength test. The buccal coronal unground enamel from human extracted molars were prepared using low-speed deamond saw. Scotchbond Multi-Purpose(group CM), Clearfil SE Bond(group SE), or Adper Prompt L-pop(group LP) were applied to the prepared teeth, and resin compasite(Z-250) was built up incrementally. Resin tag formation were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy, after removal of enamel surface by acid dissolution and dehydration.(중략)

I. Objectives Newly all-in-one adhesives were developed for reducing the techique sensitivity and chair time, but lots of concerns were made on bondability, longevity, and microleakage. The object of this study was to measure micro leakage and marginal quality of all-in-one adhesives using electrochemical method and SEM analysis quantitatively. II. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of multiple application of all-in-one dentin adhesive system on microtensile bond strength using confocal laser scanning microscope and microtensile bond strength test. The dentin surface of human molars, sectioned to remove the enamel from the occlusal surface were prepared. In group I, Scotchbond Multipurpose(SM, 3M ESPE) was applied by manufature's recommended. In group II, after the all-in-one adhesive, Adper Prompt L-Pop was applied for 15s, and light cured for 10s, the second coat was re-applied and light-cured.(omitted)

Perforation of the hypopharynx, which can occur after anterior cervical approach, is a very rare type of complication. If diagnosed late, it can lead to very fatal course, such as mediastinitis and hematosepsis. Therefore, a precise and prompt diagnosis is crucial. When conservative treatment alone is not expected to heal the perforated site or is likely to lead to serious complications, surgical treatment becomes necessary. This report demonstrates that surgical intervention performed immediately after an early diagnosis can lead to the successful treatment of a large perforation in the hypopharynx on a 58-year-old male patient.

Despite all preventive efforts, aspiration of foreign body during clinical dental procedures occurs occasionally. Careful clinical physical examination, proper assessment of radiography and prompt emergency treatment can prevent any potentially serious consequences. In this report, we will report serial cases of foreign body in different situation from mild cases to severe cases and suggest some clinical guidelines to dental health care providers.
