Three patients who sustained penetrating stab wound of the heart have been treated successfully by emergency thoracotomy in the Department of Thoracic Surgery, Chonnam University Hospital. There were two knife and one glass wound. The location of the injury were all on the right ventricle, but in one patient, it was penetrated to ventricular septum. All patients were in shock with a systolic pressure under 60 mmHg when admitted to the emergency room. In one of the three patients, blood pressure was not detectable and subsequently cardiac arrest. Two patients required immediate thoracotomy because of intrathoracic hemorrhage and increased pericardial tamponade and the other one required prompt thoracotomy because of sudden onset of cardiac arrest. There were no death postoperatively. Two patients are living without any complication in 4 years and 4 weeks after operation. One who had penetrating wound to ventricular septum, turned to cardiac decompensation, but he is living now in 4$\frac{1}{2}$ years after operation. Exploratory thoracotomy should be performed immediately in all the patients in whom a penetrating wound of the heart or pericardial tamponade following a penetrating wound of the chest wall is suspected.

The dilated haustra of colon after esophagocolostomy was a rare complications, but it may be extremely dangerous because of the potential for perforation of the thin- walled esophageal substitute. Therefore a prompt surgical correction of the lesion should be done. The conventional surgical exploration and resection of the lesion site was very difficult. The use of the ends GIA to eliminate the dilated haustra of colon was simple and safe method and the postoperative results were good. We report a case of experience and methods.

Recently, though damage caused by intensive rainfall and typhoon happens frequently, we could not forecast or predict a disaster, due to the difficulty of obtaining exact information about it. For efficient disaster management, the most urgent need is the preparation of a flood forecast-warning system. Therefore, we need to provide a program that has the ability of inundation analysis and flood forecast-warning using a geographic information system, and using domestic technology rather than that from foreign countries. In this research, we constructed a FDMS(Flood Disaster Management System) that is able to analyze real-time inundation data, and usins the GIS(Ceographic Information System) with prompt analyzing of hydrologic-topographical parameters and runoff-computation. Moreover, by expressing inundation analysis in three-dimensions, we were able to get to the inundation area with ease. Finally, we expect that the application of this method in the (food forecast-warning system will have great role in reducing casualties and damage.

Left ventricular free wall rupture (LFWR) is rare, but is one of the most serious complications of myocardial infarction and is associated with high mortality. Several operative techniques have been attempted, but early diagnosis and prompt surgical management are crucial for a positive patient outcome. We report three cases of LFWR successfully treated with surgical methods.

This research aims to classify wetland types and evaluate functions of a dam lake. The case study area is Boryung lake in Boryung City. In this study was carried out based upon field surveys, drawing maps and publication, and modified-RAM which can evaluate the general functions and conservation values of wetlands. Eight functions of 2-12 variables each are analyzed for assessing the wetland functions. The analysis shows that several types of wetlands were identified, such as Palustrine/ Perennial/ Hydrophytes, Palustrine/ Perennial/ Openwater, Palustrine/ Seasonal/ Herbal, Palustrine/ Seasonal/ Shrub and Scrub, Palustrine/ Seasonal/ Hydrophye, and Riparian/ Seasonal/ Shrub in the Boryung lake. The average level of functions of the wetlands is very "HIGH", and it is recommended that prompt conservation measures should be taken.

Septic arthritis in neonates is a rare condition. A failure to make an early diagnosis of septic arthritis in neonates may leave a permanent disability as a result of a delayed treatment. Thus, septic arthritis, requires a prompt diagnosis and a timely treatment especially in this subset of patients. In this case report, we describe our treatment protocol for septic arthritis and concurrent osteomyelitis in the right shoulder of a 28-day-old newborn. Using 2.4 mm wrist arthroscopy, we performed an arthroscopic irrigation and drainage, to remove intra-articular debris and inflammatory tissue, and multiple drilling. We report a satisfactory clinical outcome without any postoperative complications or side effects.

Injection laryngoplasty is one of the most frequently performed procedures in patients with glottic insufficiency. Various materials and injection sites have been used to medialize the true vocal folds. Ideal material would be easily injected through a fine- gauge needle, well tolerated, long lasting and without complications. Although injection laryngoplasty rarely result in complication, physicians must be familiar with the types of complications that can occur. Proper diagnosis and prompt management of complication can result in good outcome.

A real-time operating system has focused primary on techniques to minimize processing time, with a secondary emphasis on system reliability issues. Conversely, fault-tolerant system has concentrated on using recourse and information redundancy to maximize the availability and reliability of the system, with a lesser emphasis on performance. We have developed a fault-tolerant and real-time operations system which support a powerful concurrent runtime environment under the above requirements. In this paper, we present an overview of real-time systems, design and implementation of a duplex architecture using advanced concepts and technologies such as fast " fault detection", "fault isolation" and "fault recovery" Because the duplex architecture has two dentical hardware elements and has several recovery steps and hierarchy to facilitate a fast recovery which must be proceeded by a prompt fault detection and isolation. Thus it makes possible to minimize the overhead of the systems including hardware and software and guarantee the service continuity of he systems.

Warfarin sodium is a widely used oral anticoagulant and it sometimes causes hemorrhage in various sites such as traumatic or operative wounds, urologic organs, gastrointesitnal tract and subcutaneous tissues. Warfarin induced hemorrhage in upper respiratory tract causing upper airway obstruction is extremely rare. Despite the life-threatening nature of this complication, the symptoms are obscure like sore throat or hoarseness, suggesting infection and early diagnosis can be delayed. Careful medical history is emphasized When bleeding is observed, the patient should be admitted for close observation and prompt treatment. Recently we have exrperienced a case of laryngeal and upper tracheal submucosal hemorrhage induced by long term warfarin in 64 years old mm. We described the case with a review of the literature.
