  • The North's short-range projectiles and missiles are the Iskander-class missiles of the S-300 series, with a range of 270-420 kilometers and an altitude of 40-50 kilometers, making it very difficult to respond with South Korea's detection radar or striking weapons. The North's handling of the Seoul sea of fire also makes it very urgent for the South to deploy the weapons to power or introduce them as soon as possible, as it can identify its intention to strike the Seoul metropolitan area by equipping such short-range rockets and missiles with nuclear or chemical weapons. We will be prepared to prep are for reckless provocations by securing our own technology by continuously developing the Korean missile defense system and striking system, Kill Chain, which is designed to defend short-range missiles in the long-term, and securing our own technology.

  • In modern times, with advances in semiconductor technology such as electronic devices, the need to improve the quality of onboard equipment with advanced electronic parts in automobiles, drones, airplanes, projectiles, and various fields, and reduce the impact of various disturbances on onboard equipment is becoming more important. Vibration control through hardware must be determined to prevent damage and improve quality to equipment operating in various environments such as automobiles, drones, airplanes, and projectiles. This study focuses on the study of vibration damping systems to protect mounted equipment from various disturbances and improve stability. Dynamic characteristics analysis, including compressive stiffness, damping rate, and frequency response, and vibration characteristics in the frequency domain of rubber dampers were identified through FEM analysis to identify the characteristics of rubber dampers. Through these findings, we would like to present the criteria for selecting a suitable rubber damper under various disturbance conditions.

  • Coil guns are known worldwide as inexpensive space launch vehicles. The principle of Fleming's right-hand rule allows the coil gun to accelerate the projectile by applying enormous voltage to the solenoid coil. This study was performed to improve the speed of the coil gun using MATLAB, a commercially available numerical program for high launching force of electromagnetic projectiles. To maximize the speed of the projectile, the largest coil of American wire gauge was used, and the number of windings in the radial and axial directions of the solenoid coil was optimized. Optimal length of the projectile was obtained by calculating the optimal aspect ratio between the axial length of the solenoid coil and the length of the projectile.

  • In this study, to improve the ballistic efficiency of very brilliant alumina-silica armor material, forming press and sintering temperature were changed. After physical/mechanical measurement, we measured ballistic properties about KE(Kinetic Energy, L/D=10.7, tungsten heavy alloy) and HEAT(High Explosive Anti-Tank, K215) projectiles and analyzed them. As a result, in $1235^{\circ}C$, it appeared the highest ballistic efficiency about HEAT and it improved $22\%$ ballistic efficiency, better than invented alumina-silica armor material before.

  • To reduce the transmission of large gun-generated noise from the firing test range to the community, we have tested a silencer to be used with howitzer(155mm KM114A2) after simulation. Numerical analysis was conducted by using a commercial CFD code, FLUENT. To analyze complex blast flow fields, the Spalart-Allmaras model was applied under 2 dimensional and axisymmetric conditions. Firing tests were also performed with the KM114A2 howitzer while the silencer was installed. This paper describes a result of comparison between results of computer analysis and test outcomes which were gotten by firing 155mm projectiles at the testing range. This paper will also be informative to the muffler design which will be adapted to 155mm large gun in the future.

  • In this paper, a simplified mathematical procedure is presented to incorporate nonlinearity in soil material to predict the deceleration time history, penetration depth and other relevant parameters for normal impact of missiles into soil targets. Numerical method is employed for these predictions. The results of the study are compared with experimental observations and predictions available in the literature. A good agreement is found with experimental observations and an improvement is observed with existing predictions. A comparison is also made with linear soil model. Some parametric studies are also carried out to obtain the results of practical interest.

  • Severe element distortion problem is observed in finite element mesh while performing numerical simulations of high velocity steel projectiles penetration/perforation of concrete targets using finite element method (FEM). This problem of element distortion in Lagrangian formulation of FEM can be resolved by using element erosion methodology. Element erosion approach is applied in the finite element program by defining failure parameters as a condition for element elimination. In this study strain parameters for both compression and tension at failure are used as failure criteria. Since no direct method exists to determine these values, a calibration approach is used to establish suitable failure strain values while performing numerical simulations of ogive-nose steel projectile penetration/perforation into concrete target. A range of erosion parameters is suggested and adopted in concrete penetration/perforation tests to validate the suggested values. Good agreement between the numerical and field data is observed.

  • The present study aims to improve an existing model for the prediction of deceleration time history, penetration depth and forces on ogive and conical nose shaped missiles under normal impact into geo-material targets. The actual ogive nose shaped missile has been considered in the analysis and the results thus obtained have been compared with the existing model and significant improvements are found. A close proximity in the results has also been observed with the experimental values. The results of ogive nose shaped missile have also been compared with equivalent conical nose shaped missile. Variation of radial stresses along nose length and radial direction has been studied. Effect of CRH on missile penetrating performance has been investigated.

  • In order to investigate the effect of surface treatment(Anodizing) and rolling in Al 5083-H131 alloy, ballistic testing was conducted. Ballistic resistance of these materials. was measured by protection ballistic limit(V$_{50}$), a statical velocity with 50% probability for incomplete penetration. Fracture behaviors and ballistic tolerance, described by penetration modes, are observed respectfully, resulting from V$_{50}$ test and Projectile Through Plates(PTP) test at velocities greater than V$_{50}$. PTP tests were conducted with 0$^{\circ}$obliquity at room temperature were also conducted with projectiles that were able to achieve near or complete penetration during PTP tests. Resistance to penetration, and penetration modes of Al 5052-H34 alloy, compared to those of Al 5083-H131 alloy.alloy.
