  • Wave Energy is a derivative of the solar energy input to the earth, which is accumulated on open water surfaces by the action of the winds Waves are disturbances in the water surface. This paper is interested primarily in progressive waves, which carry energy from one place to another Waves are irregular in size and frequency. Moreover the surface of the sea is one of the most hostile environments for engineering structures and materials. The idea of harnessing the tremendous power of the ocean's waves is not new. Hundreds of wave energy conversion techniques have been suggested over the last two centuries. Although many WECS (Wave Energy Conversion Systems) have been invented, only a few systems have been tested and evaluated. This paper describes the characteristic of WES (Wave Energy System) in terms of, devices, resource and potential, etc.. Finally, this paper provides a summary of general and specific conclusions and recommendations concerning WECS potential in Korea.

  • In this study all kinds of Library Associations in Korea counted as Library Coperatives are surveyed under the categories of their collaborative activities as well historical developments. The results of this study are as follow : 1) The library cooperatives which have more working personnel are carrying out interlibrary cooperations more effectively, than those which have fewer working personnel. 2) The library cooperatives operating with established and realizable regulations or rules are more progressive in interlibrary cooperations than those operating with traditional practices or customary rules. 3) The library cooperatives with executing committee appear to be more progressive in interlibrary cooperations than those without it. 4) Both updating frequency of union catalog or union list and publishing intervals of supplementary editions are proved to be an important factor affecting the effectiveness of interlibrary cooperations. 5) Three of library cooperatives are employing the systems for payment of information provisions in interlibrary cooperations but the other library cooperatives are employing no payment systems, or not following such systems. By the results, six kinds of suggestions to improve the activities of korean library cooperatives have been expressed.

  • Natural draught cooling towers often develop visible crack structures as consequences of progressive damage processes over their life-time. The aim of this paper is a numerical demonstration of the progressive damage process of cooling towers, representatively for the reinforced concrete structures, in order to improve the durability and extend the life-time of structures subjected to such damage processes. For the analyses, the applied material model for reinforced concrete will be briefly introduced. An existing natural draught cooling tower with a pronounced crack structure, in which this crack structure indicates the typical damage pattern of large cooling towers will be numerically simulated. The change of dynamical behavior of the structure with regard to natural frequencies, reflecting the global damage process due to the degrading stiffness of the structure in dependence of the load type and intensity, will be presented and discussed.

  • This paper aims to investigate vibration frequency decrease (vibration period elongation) of reinforced concrete (RC) structure with unreinforced infill wall and reinforced infill wall exposed to progressively increased artificial earthquake load on shaking table. For this purpose, two shaking table experiments were selected as a case study. Shaking table experiments were carried on 1:1 scaled prototype one bay one storey RC structure with infill walls. The purpose of this shaking table experiment sequence is to assess local behavior and progressive collapse mechanism. Frequency decrease and eigen-vector evolution are directly related to in-plane and out-of-plane bearing capacities of infill wall enclosure with reinforced concrete frame. Firstly, frequency decrease-damage relationship was evaluated on the base of experiment results. Then, frequency decrease and stiffness degradation were evaluated with applied Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) by considering strength deterioration. Lastly, eigenvector evolution-local damage and eigenvector evolution-frequency decrease relationship was investigated. Five modes were considered while evaluating damage and frequency decrease of the tested specimens. The relationship between frequency decrease, stiffness degradation and damage level were presented while comparing with Unreinforced Brick Infill (URB) and Reinforced Infill wall with Bed Joint Reinforcement (BJR) on the base of natural vibration frequency.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Progressive Resistive Exercise Program and Aqua Exercise Program on Lower extremity Muscle strength, Balance in Elderly old. The average age of elder female was 71.65 years. Subjects of the study were twenty older women living in daejon. The date were analyzed with frequency, independent t-test, paired t-test using SPSS PC(ver.10.0). The subjects were practiced with focusing on the Progressive Resistive Exercise Program and Aqua Exercise Program for 8 weeks, from 8, April 2002 to 1, June 2002. The results of this study were as follows: 1. After the Progressive Resistive Exercise Program, Balance ability by OLSTR, OLSTL was improved(p<0.05) on the soft surface with close eyes. 2. After the Aqua Exercise Program, the strength of the right knee flexors and extensors was improved(p<0.05). 3. After the Aqua Exercise Program, the strength of the left knee flexors was improved(p<0.01). 4. After the Aqua Exercise Program, Balance ability by OLSTR was improved(p<0.001) on the soft surface with open eyes, close eyes and by OLSTL was improved(p<0.05) on the hard surface with open eyes.

  • Purpose: This study was to compare the contrast sensitivity evaluated the visual ability at near wearing functional lenses for pre-presbyopes altered their single vision lenses to functional progressive addition lenses with low addition for 2 months. Methods: Healthy 32 subjects aged 24.03${\pm}$1.87 (male 23, female 9) who were recruited from university students wore functional progressive addition lenses(EYE-T, Chemilens Co., Korea, ADD 0.75D) for 2 months. Corrected visual acuity at distance and near and contrast sensitivity at near were tested right after wearing functional progressive addition lenses to compare wearing single vision lenses. And we had second test after 2 months later. Results: Comparing between test and retest, contrast sensitivity at near wearing functional progressive addition lenses was improved more than wearing single vision lenses at all spatial frequency of right, left and both eyes. Conclusions: There was considered that contrast sensitivity test is useful to evaluate the visual ability as well as quality of near work and can be applied variously.

  • Muscle fatigue is characterized as a progressive increase in discomfort arising from the active muscle at moderate load levels are maintained. The median frequency is the most commonly used as a parameter to describe muscle fatigue. However, the estimate of the median frequency is difficult to indicate muscle fatigue because of its high standard deviation and instability. This paper investigates the power changes of the appropriate low frequency band as a fatigue parameter in EMG during isotonic exercise. To select the appropriate band, linear regression lines are employed to calculate the slopes and the coefficient of determination. Three females and seven males volunteered to participate in surface EMG recordings placed on the biceps brachii and each recording experiment continued until their exhaustion. The results of experiment shows that the power changes of the selected low frequency band (15~45 Hz) have linear slopes and high determinant coefficients. Therefore, this fatiguing parameter using the power changes of the low frequency band is valid to measure the state of muscular fatigue.

The magnetic field damages semiconductor and contact force scratches, the optical lens. The ultrasonic wave driven system solve these problem. In this paper the object transport system using the excitation of ultrasonic wave is proposed. the experiments for finding the optimal excitation frequency, finding phase-difference between two ultrasonic wave generators are performed. The effect of transporting speed according to the change of amplification voltage is verified. In addition, the system performance for actual use is evaluated
