Objectives: Biomonitoring programs have been widely implemented in the field of environmental health, both in Korea and worldwide. Recently, it has been suggested that the storage, management, and utilization of biosamples collected from biomonitoring programs should be organized based on a biobank system. Therefore, we attempted to review the current status of representative biomonitoring programs and biobank systems that have been implemented in Korea and in other countries. Methods: We searched for bio-samples collected in domestic and foreign biomonitoring programs and their applications. For this, we referred to research papers, homepages hosted by biomonitoring programs, and project reports. We also checked information for biobanks related with biomonitoring programs, including the operating systems, facilities, technologies, and regulations of biobanks. Results: We summarized six domestic and 32 foreign biomonitoring programs. These biomonitoring programs collected bio-samples to determine the relationship between environmental chemicals and diseases. Domestically, bio-samples from KoNEHS, KorSEP, MOCEH, KoCHENS, and KorEHS-C were stored at -80℃ in a deep freezer at the National Institute of Environmental Research, while KNHANES samples were stored at Korea Biobank, which has a stabilized biobanking system with a well-established database. Nine foreign biomonitoring programs (JECS, China-NHBP, CKB, CHMS, NHANES, GerES, Germaan ESB, MoBa, and UK Biobank) were ongoing for large populations. Among them, CKB, GermanESB, and UK biobank have been maintained for at least 10 years with their own biomonitoring programs as well as advanced systems for the safe storage of bio-samples. Conclusion: Currently on-going biobanks have devoted considerable efforts to managing bio-samples for public purposes. The preceding domestic and foreign biomonitoring programs and biobanks will be great references for constructing biobank facilities and systems for environmental public health in Korea in the future.

At a time when libraries are attracting attention as institutions and spaces that can foster future capabilities, this study conducts a general survey of the current status of public library programs related to the future capabilities and investigate the social awareness on libraries and future capabilities through big data analysis. As a result, first, programs are being planned and provided with the keyword of future capabilities, but most of them are limited to makerspace programs, edutech programs, and experience programs. Also, the detailed types of programs are limited to 3D print, coding, AR, VR, etc. In addition, current library programs related to future capabilities are not subdivided by each competency, these programs are provided in the comprehensive sense of future competency. Second, in the awareness survey through big data analysis, education, future capabilities, and libraries were found to be highly frequent, and it was seen that library reading, books, culture, and programs were related to strengthening future capabilities. Accordingly, in the future, libraries need to develop and provide systematic programs to cultivate future capabilities, and there is also a need to develop future capabilities improvement programs that take the life cycle into account.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the content and design of the seven math camp programs for students of the education centers for the elementary gifted students. The analysis focused on the goals, content, and evaluations utilized in the math camp programs. The results of the study were as follows. First, there was no big difference between the goals set for each camp, and they mainly focused on the goals in affective domain. Second, the content of math camp programs was focused on enrichment rather than acceleration. Most of the programs were focused on geometry, whereas fewer programs were focused on measurement, probability and statistics. Based on the Analysis, we found that only nine out of 27 programs applied level-wised or individual exercise programs. Third, all centers for the mathematically gifted carried out evaluations of their math camp programs. However, a specific evaluation plan was not established for the math camp program plans. We suggested the direction of math camp programs as follows. First, the goals should reflect on the intended outcomes of the math camp programs. Also, the goals of math camp programs need to be distinctive from general education goals. Second, the programs should contain harmonious contents with enrichment and acceleration and must include various reactions and task commitment. The math camp programs need to include references and an appropriate information for the gifted students to encourage self-directed learning. Third, a more specific evaluation plan for math camp programs needs to be developed for effective education for the gifted students.
This research analyzed the effects of satisfaction factors of rural experience of city dwellers. The main research results are summarized as follows. The selection attributes for the rural experience of urbanites were divided into their interests into the programs, variety of the programs and convenience of the facilities. According to the multiple regression analysis, interests into the programs had impacts on the level of satisfaction. The types of rural tourism had statistical relevance with people's interests into the programs, convenience of the facilities and variety of the programs. In addition, those at the age of 40 to 50 reported higher satisfaction in their interests of the programs and convenience of the facilities among the general attributes of the respondents. In occupation, office workers had higher satisfaction in their interests into the programs while homemakers were more satisfied than others in convenience of the facilities and variety of the programs. When it comes to the monthly family income, those in the group who earn 2 to 3 million won a month had higher satisfaction in terms of convenience of the facilities and variety of the programs.
The purpose of this paper is to study the links between manufacturing strategy and change programs of manufacturing firms in Korea. The nature of our analysis is more descriptive than normative or confirmative. First, we investigate the linkage between manufacturing strategy, manufacturing capability, change programs and performance measurement systems. Secondly, we intend to explore an empirical typology of manufacturing strategy and change programs. The initial findings of the study are as follows: Linkage between manufacturing strategy and change programs of manufacturing firms was not apparent. Flexibility as a strategic priority is positively related to the innovative change programs. There are two distinctive strategies of manufacturing firms in Korea, namely, quality strategy and balanced strategy. We identified three types of change programs, which are incremental change, administrative innovation, and process innovation. Incremental change group has represented low factor score in the change program dimensions. The firms in administrative innovation group mainly depend on information systems and business reengineering. Korean manufacturing firms seem to pursue process improvement by trying simultaneously incremental change in the process, managerial process improvement, and a little bit of innovative change. Performance variable utilization of the firms are not significantly different along with manufacturing strategies and change programs. We found, however, learning and improvement performance dimension is significantly related to flexibility variables. Process innovation group marked high score in usage of learning and improvement indices. The findings of this study seem to have various implications on realigning the manufacturing strategy, change programs, and performance systems in Korean firms.
Purposes: This study was designed to survey current and past health promotion programs in schools and to assess the needs of health promotion programs based upon the opinions of health teachers. Methods: Self-report questionnaire were given to health teachers who attended board meetings in each province or who participated in a qualification training course in Daegu. The questionnaire was developed by authors and revised it based on experts' advice. Results: The most common health promotion programs were sexual education, sexual violence prevention, drug abuse prevention, first aid,dental health. In contrast, many mental health promotion programs, such as suicide prevention, ADHD, and those involving personality disorders were all relatively uncommon. The needs of health promotion programs showed almost same priority with health promotion programs that are being done. Conclusions: The development of effective health promotion programs requires input from students, parents, teachers, experts, and health teachers.
This study examines how frequently employers offer family-friendly corporate programs and how frequently employees use the programs. This study also seeks to discover whether the implementation and utilization of family-friendly corporate programs results in an increase in employees' childbirths. Data were collected from 377 married full-time employees working in private sector companies located in Seoul and GyeongGi-Do. Frequency analyses of the employees' responses showed moderate rates of implementation of family-friendly corporate programs and much lower rates of employees' utilization. The hierarchical regression analysis revealed that the implementation of family-friendly corporate programs significantly predicted employees' childbirths. However, this was ineffective, having no significant influence on employees' childbirths, when their utilization of the programs was entered into the model. Higher rates of utilization of family-friendly corporate programs predicted more childbirths after employment. This study suggests that the implementation of family-friendly corporate programs per se is not a complete solution to get employees to have more babies. Rather, what matters is the usability of those programs. Finally, the implications of the study results are discussed.

The purpose of this research was to determine whether the present Korean teacher education programs for secondary science teachers are effective in improving the teacher conceptions of constructivism and STS. It is because the current Korean National Science Curriculum is consistent with both ideas as reforms. The teacher education programs sampled in the research included pre-service programs and two types of in-service programs. These two were the Qualifying In-service Program and the Iowa Korean Science Teachers Workshop. The Iowa Program was considered as an experimental program emphasized the constructivist perspective. Specially designed questionnaires for identifying teacher conceptions before and after the programs were administered. The conceptions about constructivism and STS improved as a result of the instruction in both of the pre-service and in-service teacher education programs. The pre-service program was more effective than the in-service programs in improving the teacher conceptions of both constructivism and STS. The Qualifying Inservice program was less effective than Iowa Korean Science Teachers Workshop. It was necessary for inservice programs for Korean secondary science teachers to be more emphasized on constructivism and STS. Iowa Korean Science Teachers Workshop provided a possible example to design a new special in-service program focused on constructivist perspectives as a way of aligning the Korean National Science Curriculum more quickly with recommended teaching practices in Korean schools.
The majority of medical educators agree that scientific education is critical to the development of physician-scientists. However, the proportion of physicians interested or engaged in research has been decreasing. To overcome this deficit of research oriented physicians, many medical schools in the United States have introduced scholarly concentration (SC) programs into their medical curricula since 2000. In contrast, Korea has very few medical schools with such programs. Research programs at American medical schools were surveyed and investigated in order to better design and develop SC programs appropriate for Korean medical schools. Information on SC programs was gathered by reviewing medical school web sites and related articles. The SC programs of Brown Alpert Medical School, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Duke University School of Medicine, and Stanford University School of Medicine are discussed in depth. The characteristics of each program were organized into seven parts: program description, administrative structure, orientation, curricular content, mentors and mentoring, student evaluation, and challenges. For a successful SC program in Korea we must consider providing guaranteed time for SC programs with necessary modifications in the core medical curriculum, educating and training of mentors, providing orientation and motivating students to pursue research, developing curricula for SC programs, and evaluating the progress of SC projects.
This study investigates the worksite resources and programs for health promotion services, especially in areas of smoking cessation and acohol-reducing. Health promotion program is important for employees and employers to promote their productivity and enhance their quality of life. To explain the worksite health promotion programs, a three-stage survey model was established and 111 worksites filled up the questionnaire. Stages of the model included the supply status of worksite health programs, attitudes to get rid of health risks, and behavioral intentions to provide health promotion programs in the near future. The results of this study are as follows. First, the facility and personnel for health promotion services are not equipped sufficiently in the middle-sized worksites. Second, provided programs are not good enough in both quantity and quality, because most worksites provide inefficient and low-cost programs. Third, worksites provide the programs such as advertisement, education materials especially in large-sized worksites, but not in middle-sized worksites. Therefore, worksites need to be supported with a public institution for efficient programs and continuing legal and systematic support for middle-sized worksites should be emphasized.
