  • Over the years, the types of media and media usage patterns have rapidly changed and communication channels in society have diversified. The courses in the universities on "media" have accordingly been altered to adapt to these changes. To investigate the ways in which the higher learning institutions in Korea have adapted to the changes in the media environment, this study analyzed the curriculum provided by the communication/media departments in the areas of Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. For the curricula analysis, names of the course soffered at the selected universitie swere analyzed; then keywords were extracted from morphological analysis of thes enames. Also, to investigate the changes over time, the courses offered in the years 2008 and 2017 were selected. The network analysis was done by using Netminer; the shape, main components, and major nodes of the network were compared. The results showed that firstly, overall shape of network from 2008 and 2017 looked similar. Due to the existence of concentrations within the major, the overall shape of the network showed several independent components, rather than one network. However, the analysis revealed differences in major nodes in the 2008 case from 2017. In the 2008 case, 'programming,' 'media,' 'introduction' among others were the major nodes; in 2017, 'editing' was the most important node. This signifies that in 2017, the curricula in the selected universities emphasized more practical and technical media education. In other words, the universities have adapted to the changing environments by including new topics, paying more attention to video media, and providing students with more direct field experiences.

  • In this study, we implemented an experimental approach of ecological model development in order to emphasize the importance of input variable selection with respect to time-delayed arrangement between input and output variables. Time-series modeling requires relevant input variable selection for the prediction of a specific output variable (e.g. density of a species). Inadequate variable utility for input often causes increase of model construction time and low efficiency of developed model when applied to real world representation. Therefore, for future prediction, researchers have to decide number of time-delay (e.g. months, weeks or days; t-n) to predict a certain phenomenon at current time t. We prepared a total of 3,900 equation models produced by Time-Series Optimized Genetic Programming (TSOGP) algorithm, for the prediction of monthly averaged density of a potamic phytoplankton species Stephanodiscus hantzschii, considering future prediction from 0- (no future prediction) to 12-months ahead (interval by 1 month; 300 equations per each month-delay). From the investigation of model structure, input variable selectivity was obviously affected by the time-delay arrangement, and the model predictability was related with the type of input variables. From the results, we can conclude that, although Machine Learning (ML) algorithms which have popularly been used in Ecological Informatics (EI) provide high performance in future prediction of ecological entities, the efficiency of models would be lowered unless relevant input variables are selectively used.

  • As the number of web users is increasing, the leakage of personal information is increasing. If some personal information is leaked, the victim can suffer from material damage or mental damage at the same time. Most of the leakages are result from the people who works for the personal information by accident or design. Hence, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security proposeed the measuring index and enumerates the details. The index is used in a system to check protection of a personal information. However, because this system is used to evaluate after the leakage, it cannot be used to construct some security system or programming a security system. To solve this problem, it needs to express the diversity of items and be able to count what assessors want to count. Thus, a summary sheet which displays the result of the tool will be presented in a radial form graph. Details will be presented as a bar graph. Therefore, it will be proposed that the tool can grasp the weak point and propose the direction of security.

  • In this paper we have studied about the interconnection technology between tablet device and interactive white board(IWB) system. For this study we have implemented the board writing software for both tablet device and interactive white board system which has contents management, page turning and basic writing functions. Then we defined the data format to communicate the control information and board writing information between two devices, and implemented the communication module for the real-time bidirectional communication by using the Socket programming. The page turning or writing information on tablet device were transferred to the IWB system in real-time and vice versa. From the result of performance test based on the error rate, latency time and communication coverage we derived that our implementation software has good performance between tablet device and IWB system. Also from the result of field test we proved that our solution is well suitable to use in real education environment.

  • In this research, Problem Solving and Programming - the chapter common among four different types of middle school informatics textbooks based on the national curriculum revised in 2015 - was analyzed to measure its effects on cultivating students' curiosities. Romey's analysis was applied to these textbooks on four analytic elements - texts, data, activities, and evaluation. The results showed that each type of textbook showed a differing degree of encouraging students' inquisitive tendencies on each analytic element; two out of four textbooks were well developed for texts, three for data, three for activities, and all four for evaluation. In terms of Romey's index points, two textbooks had low indexes of texts, such as 0.185 and 0.413. Data indices were extremely low in one textbook at 0.147. Three of four textbooks exhibited high indices of activities at 0.969, 0.608 and 0.627. Evaluation indices were high in all four textbooks at 1.333, 1.268, 1.274, and 0.764. These revised textbooks overall showed higher metrics than the previously designed textbooks with regards to promoting students' inquisitive nature.

  • This paper dealt with investigating the number of minimal spanning ladders originated from ladder game and their properties as well as the related computational thinking aspects. The author modified the filtering techniques to enhance Mathematica project where a new type of graph was generated based on the algorithm using a generator of firstly found minimal spanning graph by repeatedly applying independent ladder operator to a subsequence of ladder sequence. The newly produced YC graphs had recursive and hierarchical graph structures and showed the properties of edge-symmetric. As the computational complexity increased the author divided the whole search space into the each floor of the newly generated minimal spanning graphs for the (5, 10) YC graph and the higher (6, 15) YC graph. It turned out that the computational thinking capabilities such as data visualization, abstraction, and parallel computing with Mathematica contributed to enumerating the new YC graphs in order to investigate their structures and properties.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and to find related factors according to the number of metabolic syndrome diagnostic components in Korean adolescents. Methods: The subjects of this study were 469 Korean adolescents aged from 12 to 18 enrolled in the 2016 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Statistical package R 3.4.2 was used for programming to apply diagnostic criterion of adolescent metabolic syndrome and for the analysis of the data such as weighted frequent analysis, weighted mean analysis and complex sampling design logistic regression analysis. Results: For adolescents 12 to 18 years of age, 2.55% had more than 2(${\geq_-}3$), 9.88% had more than 1(${\geq_-}2$) and 33.17% had more than 0(${\geq_-}1$) metabolic syndrome diagnostic components. It has been found that risk factors for no less than 2 metabolic syndrome diagnostic components were higher body mass index and higher stress, and risk factors for no less than 1 were higher body mass index, younger teenager and female. Conclusion: Obesity is the primary risk factor for the development of adolescent metabolic syndrome. Female or younger teenager are more likely to have one or more metabolic syndrome diagnostic components, and higher stress develop to the risk level of having two or more metabolic syndrome diagnostic components. Therefore, it is important to focus on obesity and stress management for the prevention and control of Korean adolescent metabolic syndrome.

  • Arduino is one of the commonly used microcontroller platforms, and widely used not only in education but also in industrial fields because it enables rapid development and has excellent expandability. However, since there are only a few microcontrollers officially used by Arduino, attempts have been made to use various microcontrollers in the Arduino environment. As part of the Arduino expansion, in this paper, we implemented 128duino, ATmega128-based Arduino-compatible board, and its operation was verified. ATmega128 is one of the microcontrollers commonly used for educational purpose, so it was chosen for Arduino expansion. Since 128duino has advantages in terms of hardware configuration and price by implementing serial and ISP style upload with one USB connection, it is expected to be used in various environments including Internet of Things as well as in education.
