Science inquiry has long been emphasized in Korean science education. Scientific modeling is one of key practices in science inquiry with a potential to provide students with opportunities to develop their own explanations and knowledge thereafter. The purpose of this study is to investigate teacher's understanding of models in science and science teaching. A professional development program on Models (PDM) was developed and refined through three times of implementation while teachers' conceptions of models and modeling were examined. A total of 29 elementary and secondary teachers participated in this study. A survey based on model use of scientists in the history of science was developed and used to collect data and audio recordings of discussions among teachers and artifacts produced by the teachers during PDM were also collected. Three ways of ontological and two ways of epistemological understanding of models and modeling were found in teachers' ideas. After PDM, a quarter of the teachers changed their ontological understanding whereas very few changed their epistemological understanding. In contrast, more than two thirds of the teachers deepened and extended their ideas about using models and modeling in teaching. There were no clear relationships between teachers' understanding of models and ways and ideas about using models in science teaching. However, teachers' perceptions of school conditions were found to mediate their intention to use models in science teaching. The findings indicate possible approaches to professional development program content design and further research.
The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of the Peer Relationship Program on the school adjustment of Ha-nul with the school maladjustment by peer problems. To achieve this purpose, single subject pretest-pottiest design was implemented for Ha-nul with school maladjustment in the third grade of the elementary school. As for the testing period of this study, this program was carried out one time a week for 10 weeks from Sept 11, 2006 to Oct 13, 2006. Each test lasted for $40{\sim}60$ minutes. To find out changes in the school adjustment of the subject child, the progress in change before and after tests was comparatively analyzed through a Likert-type three-step evaluation scale and presented as tables and graphs regarding the target behavior table. And the school adjustability was calculated in terms of percentage and presented as tables and bar graphs through a Likert-type four-step evaluation scale. Change in the subject Ha-nul's behavior, which was shown in test scenes, was observed and recorded and then Qualitatively analyzed. The following conclusions were drawn from the results of this study: First, the Peer relationship improvement program was effective in the positive influence to the relationship between a teacher in charge and Ha-nul with the school maladjustment This program made a confidence and increased the ability to express one's own ideas and feelings to others. Second, the Peer relationship improvement program was effective in the positive influence to the relationship between schoolfellows and Ha-nul with the school maladjustment This program provided the opportunities to get along with peers naturally and the abilities of a mutual understanding. Third, the Peer relationship improvement program was effective in the partially positive influence to Ha-nul with the school maladjustment. Fourth, the Peer relationship improvement program was effective in the positive influence to follow the school rules by experiencing a role, concession and fairness through the various activities. Fifth, the Peer relationship improvement program was effective in the positive influence to take part in the school event with a self-confidence and cooperation with peers through the various activities.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of PBL program for cooperative practice between western and korean medicine. Third and fourth grade medical and Korean medical school students (experimental group: 16 students, respectively) in the Pusan National University were included in the study. Teaching methods was Problem-Based Learning (PBL) which was consist of 4 western and 4 korean medical students and 2 tutors. Modules have been developed by 8 subject experts or educational experts, who have also participated in the PBL as tutor. The program has been proceeded for 4 weeks, where two face-to-face discussions and self-directed learning were done in each module. In experimental group, students' perceptions about the other medicine were surveyed before and after the program and students' and tutors' satisfaction on the program was investigated. The perception survey was also done in the control group at the beginning of the study. The students who participated in this program had more positive perceptions about the other medicine, compared with control group. There were only significant increases on the items of 'understanding of the other medicine' between before and after the program, where no statistical differences were not observed in 'perception of the other medicine or cooperative practice'. Satisfaction in the program was positive. The PBL program enabled students to understand the other medicine, but it didn't lead changes of their perception. To improve students' perception, the program need to be kept steadily.

This study was to develop an issue-centered small-group competing-debate program for the Introduction to Traditional Korean Medicine curriculum in School of Korean Medicine, Pusan National University. This debate program has student-, process- and depth-focused characteristics with critical-thinking perspectives. We employed random assignment of the position, submission of the presentation data prior to the debate, and individual result report to assess debate quality and participation of the students. This program was effective educational program for the understanding of traditional Korean medicine-related subjects. 56.7% of the students showed "Yes (>7 out of 10)" to the achievements of the program objectives, and 62.2% reported "much helpful (>7 out of 10)" to the usefulness of this program. We also found that this debate program would be specifically useful for critical reviewing of subjects which students have known superficially. This study will contribute to the development and improvement of efficacious educational curriculum for Korean Medicine by providing practical reference and template with self-directed group debate program.

Objectives : We developed the short form of the Mentalization Improvement Program for Adolescent-Community Model (MIPAdo-CM-S), based on the concept of the mentalization. Methods : The MIPAdo-CM was composed of 6 sessions and was applied to 133 students in the 1st grade of a middle school for six weeks during their regular school hours. After 6 weeks, we compared the endpoint changes of Adolescent Mental Problem Questionnaire-Revised (AMPQ-R), Emotional Empathy Test, Peer Aggression Scale, Peer Bullying Scale, School Adjustment Scale, Test Anxiety Inventory and Visual Analogue Scale between the subject and the control group. Results : On the Visual Analoge Scale, students in the trial classes reported an increased understanding and respect for others, as well as themselves. Conclusion : The efficacy of MIPAdo-CM was subjective improvement of understanding and respect for both others and themselves. To prove objective usefulness of this program, further studies should be administered in the form of long-term, regular and structured courses.
In mathematics education, teaching-learning activity can be divided largely into the understanding the mathematical concepts, derivation of principles and laws acquirement of the mathematical abilities. We utilize various media, teaching tools, audio-visual materials, manufacturing materials for understanding mathematical concepts. But sometimes we cannot define or explain correctly the concepts as well as the derivation of principles and laws by these materials. In order to solve the problem we can use the computer. In this paper, ′the process of the length of curve being equal to the sum of the vectors when intervals get smaller′ and ′the process of calculating volume of spinning curve by using definite integral.′ Using the computers is more visible than other educational instruments like blackboards, O.H.Ps., etc. Also it can help students with solving mathematical problems intuitively. Consequently more effective teaching-learning activity can be done. Usage of computers is the best method for improving the mathematical abilities because computers have functions of the immediate reaction, operation, reference and deduction. One of the important characters of mathematics is accuracy, so we use computers for improving mathematical abilities. This paper is about the program focused on the part of "the application of definite integral", which exists in mathematical curriculum the second and third grade of high school. When this study is used for students as assisting materials, it is expected the following educational effect. 1. Students will have precise concepts because they can understand what they learn intuitively. 2. Students will have positive thought by arousing interests of learning because this program is composed of pictures, animations with effectiveness of sound. 3. It is possible to change the teacher-centered instruction into the student-centered instruction. 4. Students will understand the relation between velocity and distance correctly because they can see the process of getting the length of curve by vector through the monitor. For the purpose of increasing the efficiencies and qualities of mathematics education, we have to seek the various learning-teaching methods. But considering that no computer can replace the teacher′s role, teachers have to use the CIA program carefully.
This study was conducted to develop and evaluate food safety training program for employees in foodservice operations. The developed CD-ROM was consisted of 5 parts: foodbome illness, personal hygiene, food handling in food production steps, HACCP system, and sanitary facilities. It has made slides for all contents, the animation and movie to raise interests and concentrations, and illustrations and pictures to understand. The evaluation checklists were developed 15 questionnaires including understanding(5), information(3), concentration(4), recommendation(2), and the most important factor(1) and measured by Likert 5-point scale. Fifty-four dietitians in Daegu and Gyeongbuk schools, hospitals, and industries foodservice operations responded to the surveys. The results are as follows; The most important part in the CD-ROM was personal hygiene(33.3%). The total mean was $3.95{\pm}0.41,\;3.91{\pm}0.46$ on understanding, $3.89{\pm}0.50$ on information, $3.87{\pm}0.55$ on concentration and $4.29{\pm}0.49$ on recommendation. The score was significantly higher in the recommendation part than others. Overall, as the developed CD-ROM has achieved fine score, a study on the effect of education needs to be followed. Moreover, consistent and organized education by developing a variety of sanitation education methods should be conducted.
We need to establish a systematic and consistent program in order to enhance 'science culture.' Such a program cannot be obtained without understanding the methods of doing science, with which the philosophers of science have been concerned. I divide the historical development of the philosophical understandings of doing science into three as follows: 1) the 'normative' philosophy of science, 2) the 'historical' philosophy of science and 3) the 'naturalized' philosophy of science. Based upon the classification, I propose the 'critical constructionism' and explicate its theses. I then argue that critical constructionism can incorporate the strengths of the above schools of philosophies of science. Considering the cross-disciplinary nature of the science studies, it is claimed that critical constructionism alone can mediate and facilitate the collaborative understanding of science and contribute to enhancing the science culture because of its comprehensive understandings of the methods of doing science.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate adherence to the clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) and influencing factors on the adherence following a customized intensive education program (CIEP). Methods: This work is a retrospective descriptive study. The subjects were 226 emptying failure patients who learned in a CIEP from January 2012 to July 2014. The program developed in 2011 and consisted of 1) customized theoretical education; based on the results of urologic tests, underlying disease, or surgery of the patients, 2) hands-on practice until the trainees were able to master the techniques, 3) questions about the process of catheterization and what he/she needs to know. 4) at follow-up, the survey about adherence and barrier to CIC. Clinical characteristics; the level of satisfaction, understanding, and self-confidence; the barrier in medical records were reviewed. Results: The short-term adherence rate (median 22 days) is 87.6% and the long-term adherence rate (median 112 days) is 50.4%. The biggest obstacle is time management. The levels of satisfaction, understanding, and self-confidence are very high. The variable of Income is the only factor that has influence on adherence. Conclusion: Despite the CIEP, the adherence rate is relatively low. In addition to the education, emotional and psychological supports and regular follow-up are needed to improve long-term adherence.
As the interest in AI education grows, researchers have made efforts to implement AI education programs. However, research targeting pre-service teachers has been limited thus far. Therefore, this study was conducted to develop an AI literacy education program for preservice secondary teachers. The research results revealed that the weekly topics included the definition and applications of AI, analysis of intelligent agents, the importance of data, understanding machine learning, hands-on exercises on prediction and classification, hands-on exercises on clustering and classification, hands-on exercises on unstructured data, understanding deep learning, application of deep learning algorithms, fairness, transparency, accountability, safety, and social integration. Through this research, it is hoped that AI literacy education programs for preservice teachers will be expanded. In the future, it is anticipated that follow-up studies will be conducted to implement relevant education in teacher training institutions and analyze its effectiveness.
