Preventing Shift Work Disorder in Shift Health-care Workers

  • The occurrence of the shift work disorder (SWD) in health-care workers (HCWs) employed in 24/7 hospital wards is a major concern through the world. In accordance with literature, SWD is the most frequent work-related disturb in HCWs working on shift schedules including night shift. In agreement with the Luxembourg Declaration on workplace health promotion (WHP) in the European Union, a WHP program has been developed in a large Hospital, involving both individual-oriented and organizational-oriented measures, with the aim to prevent the occurrence of SWD in nurses working on shifts including night shift. The objective assessment of rotating shift work risk and the excessive sleepiness were detected before and after the implementation of the WHP program, by using the Rotating Shiftwork-questionnaire and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale. The findings of this study showed the effectiveness of the implemented WHP program in minimizing the impact of shift work on workers' health and in preventing the misalignment between sleep-wake rhythm and shift working.

  • A recurrent theme within the literature on the 6 Sigma program is the study of its effect on organizational performance. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 6 Sigma on culinary quality performance, work commitment, and customer loyalty in the culinary division of hotels and family restaurants. The samples of this study included the employees of the culinary division of hotels and family restaurants that implemented or were about to implement the 6 Sigma program. A total of 248 questionnaires were analyzed with statistical methods of factor analysis, reliability test, and regression analysis. The findings of this study showed that the 6 Sigma program affected the culinary quality performance and work commitment of culinary division employees. Also, the 6 Sigma program, culinary quality performance and work commitment affected customer loyalty. Furthermore, work commitment affected culinary quality performance. Based on these research findings, it is required that the culinary division of hotels and family restaurants should incorporate the 6 Sigma program. For this purpose, good quality data should be collected with sufficient preparation procedures, and task force team should be made. Moreover, experts in this field should be cultivated, with the training of employees in mind. It is also crucial that the current quality of product and services be measured and that all the employees of the culinary division participate in the implementation of the 6 Sigma program. The intervention and heavy participation of the top management and head of the culinary division is expected for the successful implementation of 6 Sigma program.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of 6 Sigma on menu management, work commitment and quality in the culinary division of hotels and family restaurants. In addition, this study sought to identify the effects of menu management, work commitment and quality performance on customer satisfaction. Furthermore the relationship between menu management and culinary quality was evaluated here. The subjects evaluated in this study were employees of culinary division of hotels and family restaurants that implemented or were about to adopt the 6 Sigma program. A total of 385 questionnaires were analyzed using factor analysis, a reliability test, and covariance structural analysis. The results revealed that the 6 Sigma program influenced menu management, work commitment and culinary quality. Moreover, menu management, work commitment and culinary quality performance were found to impact customer satisfaction and culinary quality performance. Based on these findings, culinary divisions of hotels and family restaurants should incorporate the 6 Sigma program as soon as possible. To implement this program, faultless data for the 6 Sigma program should be collected using sufficient preparation procedures. After the data were collected, a task force team should be developed, experts should be cultivated and employees should be trained as necessary. Finally, the current level of product and services should be measured and reported to all employees in the culinary division and a challenge spirit should be brought with understanding for the reason for implementation of the 6 Sigma program. In implementing the 6 Sigma program, the leadership of the top manager and the head of the culinary division is very important.

  • This study is to develop the interactive program for work-cell layout of SCAPA type robot using PC. To make the program interactively, we made use of the software which have the function of menu, dialog box, and graphic. By using the mouse, we can progress the program quickly and easily. It has 2 1/2 dimension and provides that one can layout the elements(robot, peripheral device, and etc.), create the work path, and calculate the robot cycle time. By comparing with cycle times of any number of work-cell layout for the same work, we can evaluate work-cell layout and select one work-cell layout to be considered optimal one which has the least cycle time.

  • This study analyses factors facilitating work-family balance through quantitative research and case study. A sense of balance is more closely related to cognition and satisfaction in work and family than demographic factors. Based on these results, two kinds of educational programs for employees and employers were developed. Both programs consist of 4 sessions and focus on the necessity of work-family balance and the application of family-friendly policie.

  • The objective of this paper is to report how workers' actively participate in a participatory ergonomics (PE) program, and how this program resulted in improved working conditions and decreased occurrence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs). A major tire manufacturing company in Korea was studied. Most of the activities in the PE program were designed and actually practiced by the workers and their union. The results revealed some positive effects of applying a PE program to the employees. It was shown that incidence of the WMSDs as well as the lost work days and the economic cost incurred by the WMSDs decreased with the PE program.

  • 공학교육에 있어서 실험실습교육의 중요성은 매우 크다. 그러나 국내 공학교육현장에서는 예산, 시설 및 인력 등의 이유로 해서 최근까지도 실험실습교육이 형식적이고 취약한 것으로 나타나 있다. 부산대학교 기계공학부는 지난 몇 년간 국책사업 지원을 받아 실험실습교육 혁신을 추구하여, 정보화, 자동화 등의 다학제적 접근을 요구하는 기계공학의 발전 추세에 적응할 수 있는 창의적 현장적응력을 갖춘 우수한 기계공학도를 효과적으로 양성할 수 있는 실험실습교육체계를 구축해왔다. 본 글에서는 부산대학교 공과대학 기계공학부에서 추진하고 있는 실험실습 교육 강화 및 혁신 사례를 기계/전자/컴퓨터의 통합실험 실습, 실험분야의 계통화를 통한 체계적 운영 및 점진적 심화 교육, 대규모 교육 대상에 대한 효율적인 운영, 창의성 유도 실험실습 등을 중심 내용으로 기술하였다.

  • Since many small and medium sized enterprises in Korea have lack of funds to install a commercial computer packages for work standards and work scheduling. This study has been attempted to develop the computer-generated package to ease those problems. The system consisted of three major parts. The first part is a work measurement program applying W.F.(work factor) predetermined time standards for work standards. The second part is a work scheduling program which calculates each operator's machine and job allocation. The last part is a control program for the production outputs and the machine utilization monitoring. The system is programmed by dBASE III for the IBM-PC compatibles for the sake of user's conveniences.

사회복지 프로그램 제안서에 나타난 프로그램 디자인 활동의 특성에 대한 연구 (A Content Analysis on the Program Design Activities in the Proposals for Social Work Programs in Korea.)

  • 본 연구는 프로그램 디자인 활동의 결과물인 제안서의 분석을 통하여 사회복지실천현장에서 이루어지는 프로그램 디자인 활동의 특징들을 이해하고자 하였다. 분석대상은 민간복지재단에서 전국의 사회복지실천현장을 대상으로 공모한 사업에서 2005년 및 2006년도에 제출된 노인복지분야의 73개 제안서이다. 분석방법으로는 내용분석을 사용하였으며, 프로그램의 일반적인 특성과 프로그램 디자인의 특성에 관하여 주요 구성요소를 중심으로 분석하였다. 연구결과로서는 제안서의 구성과 작성하는 방법이 공모사업에서 이미 정형화가 되어 있지만 개별적인 제안서에서 나타나는 프로그램 구성요소상의 디자인 활동은 매우 다양하며, 구성요소의 영역별로 질적인 측면에서 수준의 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 프로그램 제안서 작성에서 프로그램 디자인 구성요소의 개념 및 요소간의 논리성, 조사기술의 적용, 실천현장에서의 구체적인 절차화와 관련된 다양한 어려움과 혼란도 나타나고 있었다. 끝으로 실천현장의 이러한 프로그램 디자인 활동의 어려움과 혼란을 해결하는데 도움을 줄 수 있는 연구, 교육, 실천적 과제를 제시하였다.

공모전을 통한 공학 교육적 산학 협력 모델 (Co-work Program for Engineering Education through Competition)

  • 오늘날 산학 협력은 기업과 학계 상호간의 발전을 위해 매우 중요한 역할을 담당하고 있다. 기업은 학교 연구 기관의 우수한 자원과 시설을 충분히 이용하여 새로운 제품 개발을 위한 기술을 얻을 수 있는 이점이 있고 학교는 기업 현장의 실제적인 문제에 대한 연구를 시행함으로써 이론적 연구의 실제적 적용이라는 성과를 가질 수가 있다. 그러나 대부분의 산학 협력모델은 주로 대학원 연구 기관과 기업 프로젝터 중심에서 이루어지고 주로 연구 프로젝터의 형태를 띠고 있거나 학생들의 취업을 위한, 현장실습, 기업 현장 인력 보수 교육이 주를 이루고 있다. 하지만 공학 교육의 큰 주체라고 할 수 있는 학부 단위의 교육 과정과는 다소 거리가 있는 것이 현실이며 그러한 학부 단위의 산학 협력 모델은 구축하기에 있어 프로그램의 기획, 재정, 기업의 무관심과 같은 여러 가지 제약이 따르는 것이 현실이다. 이에 본 논문은 기존의 산학 협력 혹은 기업 공모전과는 색다르게 전개 되고 있는 LG 전자 디지털 디스플레이 본부에서 시행 하는 디스플레이 아이디어 공모전을 소개하고 이를 통하여 기업과 학교의 효용성과 국내에서 새로운 산학 협력 모델을 제시 하고자 한다.
