  • This study aims to propose an education program using the records and archives of the May 18th Democratic Uprising, which are large in number and have diverse provenance. The PBL model, which is a basic model for this program, is appropriate for suggesting a number of records and inducing the use of archives. This program is based on the rule of PBL but is divided into two parts: a pre-class level and an in-class level. The archives list for this program is selected from the archives map, which consists of a horizontal axis of provenance and a vertical axis of creation time. The expected effects of this program is to vitalize and expand the use of archives and to inspire a student's historical thinking. This program is meaningful in proposing a proposed education program using the records and archives of a historical event and the probability to use in a real class.

  • Borehole Data is geotechnical information provided so that workers can safely perform construction at the field. It creates 3D data and supports viewing as a 3D image. Currently, all Korean companies that develop programs using 3D visualization use the MVS program developed by C Tech Development Corporation. However, the MVS program is a commercial program, and it is difficult to use MVS in 3D related programs developed by Korean Companies. In this paper, we propose to develop a program that can replace MVS to generate a 3D stratum model from clustered borehole information using Python's Gempy open-source. The 3D stratum model program can creates point data for each stratum and can creates a surface for each stratum through interpolation. Then, the 3D stratum model program is completed by merging the surfaces of each stratum. It was confirmed that there was no difference when a 3D model was created and compared with the MVS program and the proposed program from the borehole data of a Goyang area.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted in order to explore home visiting therapists' self-perceived role, problems, and supplement points of the home-based rehabilitation (HR) program based on the community-based rehabilitation (CBR) model. Methods: Four home visiting physical therapists, who conducted the HR program, participated in this study. After completion of the HR program, in-depth interviews were conducted using a semi-structured questionnaire for participants to explore their self-perceived role, problems, and supplement points of the HR program. Results: Participants regarded the role of the HR program as for "the linkage between recipient & society", "maintenance & improvement of recipients' physical function", and "education of recipient about the way of self rehabilitation". The problems and supplement points were derived from all phases of the HR program, including "human & material resources", "training program for human resources for HR service", "selection of recipient of HR service", "contents of the intervention for HR service", and "duration of HR service". Conclusion: These findings indicate that participants well recognized the intention of the HR program based on the CBR model, and suggest that high-quality human resources with rich expertise and experiences, a training program for HR service led by experts, and selection of recipients led by experts are necessary for an effective HR program. In addition, strategies and capacities specified to HR service should be identified, and applied to the training program for human resources for HR service. The results of this study could provide useful information when the government decides on the next guideline for home visiting health service.

  • Unexpected postoperative changes, such as growth in rib hump, has been occasionally reported after corrective surgery for scoliosis. However there has been experimental data for explanation of these changes, nor the suggestion of optimal correction method. This numerical study was designed to investigate the main correlating elements in operative kinematics with post-operative changes of vertebral rotation and rib cage deformation in the corrective surgery of scoliosis. To develop a scoliotic spine model automatically, a special program for converting normal spine model to scoliotic spine model was developed. A mathematical finite element model of normal spine including rib cage, sternum, both clavicles, and pelvis was developed with anatomical details. The skeletal deformity of scoliosis was reconstructed, by mapping the X-ray images of a scoliosis into this three dimensional normal spine and rib cage model. The geometric mapping was performed by translating and rotating the spinal colume with the amount analyzed from the digitized 12 built-in coordinate axes in each vertebral image. By utilizing this program, problems generated in mapping procedure such as facet joint overlapping, vertebral body deformity could be automatically resolved.

  • In early-age concrete, volumetric deformations due to thermal expansion and moisture transfer are restrained by various boundary conditions, and then restraint stresses occur in proportion to developed stiffness. With increase of the age, these stresses are gradually relieved by significant relaxation behavior of early-age concrete. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the stress relaxation in order to analyze the behavior of early-age concrete more accurately. In this paper, we propose a unified algorithm which combines a relaxation model with hydration model, heat conduction model, micropore structure formation model, moisture diffusion model and mechanical properties development model and develop a finite element program based on the algorithm. The program is applied to evaluate stress development if a temperature-stress test machine (TSTM) specimen and a massive concrete structure, and then validity of the program is discussed and evaluated.

  • A stochastic simulation model incorporated with Reed-Frost approach was derived for evaluating diagnostic performance of a test used for a screening program of an infectious disease. The Reed-Frost model was used to characterize the within-herd spread of the disease using a hypothetical example. Specifically, simulation model was aimed to estimate the number infected animals in an infected herd, in which imperfect serologic tests are performed on samples taken from herds and to illustrate better interpreting survey results at herd-level when uncertainty inevitably exists. From a risk analysis point of view, model output could be appropriate in developing economic impact assessment models requiring probabilistic estimates of herd-level performance in susceptible populations. The authors emphasize the importance of knowing the herd-level diagnostic performance, especially in performing emergency surveys in which immediate control measures should be taken following the survey. In this context this model could be used in evaluating efficacy of a survey program and monitoring infection status in the area concerned.

  • Improved nutritional intake contributes to maintaining health and quality of life in elderly population and also reducing individual and social medical costs. Most of nutrition assistance programs for elderly, such as congregate or home-delivered meal programs, are not currently serviced in rural communities mainly due to low cost efficiency of program operation. However, the needs and necessity of such programs are presumed to be higher in rural area where the population density of elderly at nutritional risk is relatively high. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop a community-based meal program for the rural elderly. In 2007, four rural communities located in Jeon-Nam province were selected and the pilot meal program was applied for three months. Following are key features of the meal program model developed in this study: 1) meal production and service are operated by elderly participants to overcome the voluntary personnel shortage 2) utilization of locally-produced foods is maximized to reduce the meal cost, 3) traditional cooking methods are applied to adjust the food preference of elderly, and 4) foods are serviced on site to minimize the food safety problem possibly caused by delivery process. The pilot programs resulted in high satisfaction with the programs of participating elderly. The community-based meal program model developed in this study is expected to be used as an effective nutrition and health intervention model for the rural elderly.
