A Study on Small Business Development and Support Policies

  • The number of small businesses being founded nationally is constantly increasing and various kinds of aggressive efforts are being made to remain competitive. As such, political support by the government for small businesses that have great productivity and competitiveness must increase. The founding of small businesses is being promoted by the government in order to boost the economy, and interest in founding new businesses is high amongst not only college students, but even general workers. Thus, the purpose of this study is to examine problems regarding the founding of small businesses, and to give new businesses a competitive edge by presenting political answers to these problems. After analyzing the status of current issues concerning the foundation of small businesses, this paper suggests some positive policy alternatives. Existing studies on small businesses were focused on the promotion of small and medium distributors, and studies on policy alternatives aimed directly at promoting the businesses are, so far, insufficient. Further studies are required to examine political alternatives from the perspective of the roles of non-profit organizations, which the Government is responsible for, in supporting small business.

영리기업으로서 민간경비의 영업활동에 대한 제도적 제약성 고찰 (A Study of Institutional Restrictions for Private Security's Activities as for Profit Businesses)

  • 민간경비엽은 사설영리기업으로서 영리성을 목적으로 하고 있으며 동시에 범죄예방이라는 사회적 공익을 우선하고 있다. 이러한 측면에서 민간경비업에 대한 영리성과 공익성의 문제가 상충되고 있으며 영리기업이면서도 공익에 대한 관리감독을 받고 있다. 영리기업의 설립조건과 영업활동권은 상법에 명시되어 있으며 자연인으로서 국민적 기본권과 직업선택의 자유는 헌법에 보장되어 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 민간경비업은 공익이라는 사회적 기능을 이유로 경비업볍에 준하여 설립조건이나 영업활동의 제약, 직업선택의 자유 등에서 제약을 받고 있다. 즉, 영리법인이면서도 헌법조항의 기본권이 무시되고 있으며, 상법상 법인설립기준이나 영업활동보장권을 적용받지 못하고 있는 것이다. 경비업법에 따르면 경비업을 영위하고자 하는 자는 반드시 법적절차에 따라 해당기관으로부터 허가를 받아야 하며 회사를 대표하는 임직원들도 결격사유가 있어서는 안 된다. 그러나 상법상 법인설립의 기준은 1명이상, 업종별 규정에 따라 차이가 있지만 기본적으로는 자본금 100원 이상이면 법적제약을 받지 않고 회사설립을 할 수 있고, 헌법에 보장된 노포권에 따라 영리를 목적으로 한 모든 소득활동은 보장된다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 민간경비업의 특수성에서 비롯되는 공익성과 영리성에 대한 법적 제도적 문제점을 살펴보고자 한다.

A Study on Economic Value of Korean Private Universities' Profitable Business Based on Successful and Failed Cases

  • Purpose: This study examines some successful and failed cases of Korean private universities' profitable business and explores the desirable economic value and direction of their profitable business business operations with a view to shedding light on some clues conducive to their financial health and quality education. Research design, data and methodology: This study reviews news articles, reports and literature to find out Korean universities' financial condition and examines some successful and failed examples of their corporations' profit-making business operations to suggest a direction. Results: Private universities suffer declining enrollments and/or tuition freeze but they lack in making efforts to secure financial health. The reviewed examples of private universities' profit-making business operations suggest both universities and their corporations should first assume the public accountability prior to engaging in diverse business activities. Conclusions: First, to remain financially healthy, university corporations should exert themselves to transform their low-profit-margin lands and buildings into high-profit-margin businesses and to credit the realized income to their school-expense accounts. And, the ultimate purpose of universities' profit-making business operations is to realize a decent income without prejudice to their public accountability for the country and community, while forging a virtuous cycle by investing the income for the betterment of their educational quality and competitiveness.

Method for Composing a Portfolio for REITs Investment Using Markowitz's Portfolio Model

  • Domestic construction companies are suffering from financing difficulties in the wake of the economic slump in Korea and abroad. During this economic slump, real estate investment trusts (REITs), facilitators for improving financing and stimulating construction businesses, have increasingly expanded since their introduction in 2001. However, in terms of growth speed and marketing size, Korean REITs are falling behind those of other nations. The purpose of this study is to suggest a method for composing a portfolio using the Markowitz portfolio selection model to stimulate REITs. The main contents are as follows. First, a comparative analysis was conducted of increased REIT profit with the application of the Markowitz model and the average REIT profit rate from July 3, 2007, to July 21, 2008, during the investment analysis periods. The results showed that the total profit rate from the Markowitz model was about 10% higher than the average REIT profit rate. Second, the sensitivity was analyzed according to the portfolio's data-gathering and replacement cycle to measure the optimum cycle and yield. The six-mouth profit data collection period showed about 16% higher profits with the Markowitz model than with the REITs. The two-week portfolio change period resulted in about 11% higher profits with the Markowitz model than with the REITs.

Current State, Problems and Promotion of Coupang

  • Purpose - Local social commerce market has grown up remarkably. And, Coupang has shown new delivery strategy of rocket delivery. Making new paradigm at local market, Coupang has expanded market scale. This study investigated state of local social commerce market, weight and promotion strategy of Coupang market to find out competitiveness edge of Coupang. Research design, data, and methodology - The study investigated state and concept of social commerce to find out state, problems and competitiveness of social commerce. New distribution service was short of precedent studies. Statistical analysis and experimental analysis were not used, and interview was done to investigate three of social commerce businesses. Results - CRM construction is insufficient to have poor system, Local delivery system could not be made enough at overnight delivery and customers were dissatisfied with ties with another company. Promotion shall be done by delivery system for increase of profitability, funding for more investment, chatbot to build new customer control system, and new delivery system to produce profit. Conclusions - Coupang and others have grown up rapidly to worsen profit and to jeopardize survival. Excessive initial investment has threatened the businesses, for instance, low sales of Amazon, excessive expenses, bench marking of logistics system, and others.

우리나라 유통산업의 산업조직의 변화와 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study of Industrial Organizatioal Changes and Effects in Retail Businesses in Korea)

  • New retailers, especially giant retailers, so called "mart" or "discounter" which introduced around 1996, when Korea's domestic retail market was opened to the world, have brought big transitions. Consequently, new comers like discounters and CVS drove out department stores, mom & pops and traditional retailers. Literatures showed two reverse opinions for the giant retailers; rising consumers' benefit, or dropping small retailers' businesses. This study have conducted to find the situation of market concentration in retail market, and to learn the new market condition in it. According to the study, in 2005, CR3's of Korea's whole retail industry was counted 12.8%, and CR5 of that was 13.9%. CR3 of discount store business was 39%, department stores' 55%, and TV home shopping businesses' was 75%. In addition to those results, indices growing worse. So, we can say this industry already get into the oligopolistic industrial organization. Generally, under monopolistic or oligopolistic market structure, consumers' benefit may shrink and businesses' surplus profit may jump. So, it means, it's good time to turn government's policy for the retail industry in Korea to fair competition policy instead of development policy.

산업안전보건경영 활동이 기업경영에 미치는 영향에 대한 실증적 연구 (An Empirical Study on the Impact of the Activities in Industrial Safety & Health Management on Business Management)

  • In today's industrial society, one observes fierce competition aiming at profit generation among companies, and the utilization of complex machineries and cutting edge science and technology constitutes a constant threat to the life, body, and health of employees. In such a context, it is precisely the purpose of the Industrial Safety and Health Act that is in force to provide protection to the life and health of employees against hazardous and harmful environment and the role of enterprises becomes more and more important in the law. The Industrial Safety and Health Act places the responsibility for preventing industrial accidents on the shoulders of the business employer by providing safety and health information relating to current employees and creating an appropriate work environment. The employer must recognize the importance of prevention of industrial accident and must possess a business philosophy that places top priority on safety when it comes to company management. In light of such practical considerations, the present study approaches to find out the influence of safety and health management on business management from a statistical sample survey point of view. By doing this, the study hopes to show that a through safety management serves to protect the life and health of employees and raise profit for businesses. What is more, the study hopes to demonstrate that promoting a sound business culture can act as fertilizer that promotes the ushering in of a bright society.

국내 의료기기 제조기업의 연구개발활동과 특허가 기업 경영성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effects of the R&D Activities and Patent on the Corporate Performance of Medical Device Firms in Korea)

  • 기업은 지속적인 발전과 기업가치 제고를 위하여 연구개발을 수행하고 이로 인해 발생한 무형자산으로서 특허를 취득한다. 본 연구는 연구개발활동과 특허가 기업의 경영성과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 확인하기 위하여 연구개발정보와 특허정보, 경영성과 정보가 모두 공시된 의료기기 제조기업 103개 사를 선별하였다. 해당 기업의 특허건수, 연구개발비, 기업규모, 이노비즈 인증여부를 독립변수로 설정하고, 기업의 매출, 무형자산, 영업이익률, 순이익률, 기업평가등급, 매출/이익 관련 각종 재무비율을 종속변수로 사용하였다. 그 결과 연구개발비는 매출액, 영업이익률, 순이익률, 기업평가등급, 현금흐름등급, 순이익증가율, 자기자본순이익률, 투하자본이익률, 총자본회전률 등 대부분의 지표에 대해 음(-)의 영향을 미치고, 무형자산에만 양(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 국내등록특허는 매출액, 현금흐름등급, 투하자본이익률에 음(-)의 영향을 미치고, 순이익증가율에는 양(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 기업 특성 변수가 영향을 미치는 기업 성과변수는 매출액과 현금흐름등급이었다. 영세한 중소기업이 대부분을 차지하는 의료기기 산업의 특성 상, 연구개발활동과 특허취득이 단기간에는 기업 경영에는 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났지만, 연구개발 후 임상시험과 인허가의 절차를 거쳐야 하는 의료기기 산업의 특성을 반영할 때 장기적으로는 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것이라 예상된다.

해외건설시장의 신성장동력 공종선정 및 진출전략 도출 (Selection and Strategies of New Leading Businesses in International Construction Market)

  • 최근 해외건설시장의 급격한 확대추세 속에서 국내기업들은 지속적인 진출확대와 사업성과 제고를 달성하기 위한 신성장 동력 확보에 힘쓰고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 '어떤 공종이 신성장동력 공종인가?'와 '신성장동력 공종에 어떻게 진출하여야 하는가?'라는 두 가지 질문을 바탕으로 신성장동력 공종을 탐색하였다. 이를 위하여 먼저 산업분석 이론과 자원기반 관점 등을 바탕으로 시장진입 가능성, 수익창출 가능성, 부가가치창출 가능성을 신성장동력 공종의 조건으로 파악하는 한편, 시장의 경쟁강도 및 성장세, 국내기업 경쟁력 수준, 국내시장 파급효과 등을 기준으로 하는 공종평가 프레임워크를 개발하여 그린에너지플랜트, 환경플랜트, 담수화플랜트, 원자력플랜트, 신도시개발, 초고층빌딩 등의 공종을 신성장동력 공종으로 선정하였다. 이후 시장개척 및 선점, 경쟁력 중점강화, 지속적 발전 및 파급효과 확대 등을 목적으로 그린에너지플랜트, 환경플랜트, 신도시개발 공종에 대한 전문가의 의견을 수렴하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 각 공종의 진출전략을 도출하였다.

Intangible Cost Influence on Business Performance of Wholesale and Retail Brokerage in Korea: Focusing on HRM, Marketing and CSR

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the Cost-Effectiveness Analysis (CEA) of wholesale and retail brokerage businesses in Korea. And give managerial implications and contribute to academics. Research design, data and methodology: This research empirically analyzes the relationship between expenses and business performance. As for business performance, this research considered two financial performances; sales and profit. As for antecedent variables, this research measured three cost investment expenses; human resource management (HRM), marketing (MKT) and corporate social responsibility (CSR). This research used frequency analysis, correlation analysis, stepwise regression analysis and curve estimation analysis. Results: The result shows that HRM and CSR positive significant influence on sales yet marketing negatively significant influence on sales. And for profit, HRM and CSR give a positive significant influence. However, marketing's influence was not significant. According to curve estimation analysis, the relation between individual cost and performance, best functional relation was all quadratic functions. Some results show ∩ shape and others show shape. Conclusions: Based on this study result, implications for practical management to Wholesale and Retail Brokerage companies in Korea. And the contribution to academics is expected. Also, based on the limitation of this study, future research is suggested.
