The aim of this study is to demonstrate how Self-Sufficiency Promotion Centers (SSP Centers) run by social movement groups have struggled to defend their voluntary identities in conflict with SSP Centers operated by professional social welfare centers. Since political democratization, social movement groups have been increasing invited to run frontline public welfare agencies in South Korea, and Self-Sufficiency Program is one of the representative policies in which social movement groups have actively partaked. But many critical scholars have warned that such institutionalization of social movements into social welfare system is likely to dampen their voluntary nature and force them to render their hegemonic power to professional social welfare institutions. In contrast to the critical viewpoint, however, this study unveils how social movement-based SSP Centers have strived to tackle the professionalization pressure by deploying various survival strategies at the micro level. Through a historical discourse analysis on the frontline conflicts between social movement-based and social welfare-based SSP Centers, this study contends that social movement groups in Self-Sufficiency Program can still maintain their traditional spirit despite the obvious professionalization phenomenon.

To meet the higher needs for a new role of libraries in information society, professionalization of librarians who are core human resource of libraries is essential. Under the present circumstance that one can acquire a librarian license if he/she completes the required whole courses only, librarian license system should be improved and innovated. The purposes of this study are to investigate the surveys on librarian license system and the statistics of production and employment of librarians and to suggest a new librarian license examination as a remedy of the present system and a continuing professional education and an examination for license renewal. Based upon the investigation of a case study of the Philippines librarian licensure system, this study suggests some countermeasure which should be considered and discussed for the improvement and innovation of the present librarian licensure system.

This study investigated the influence of clinical physical therapist's perception of their work environment and their attitude toward professionalization on individual job satisfaction. This study is a cross-sectional survey of clinical physical therapists 356 working in hospital, and utilized a structured questionnaire. As a result of this study, in their twenties, women, physical therapist with low clinical experience, and physical therapists working at hospital level showed low job satisfaction. Most of the physical therapists said that they needed a system for professionalism, and the lower the job satisfaction was, the higher the attitude toward the necessity of introducing a professional system. The variables affecting job satisfaction were academic background and annual salary. Therefore, in order to improve the job satisfaction of physical therapists, improvement of salary and learning for professionalism played an important role in improving job satisfaction. Self-development and job specialization through the introduction of a system for equipping expertise appear to be important to improve the job satisfaction.

Objectives: This study presents the basic data necessary to explore the methods used of Korean dental hygienists to resolve oral health inequalities in Korea via reviewing the professionalization trend of American dental hygienists. Methods: The supervision levels of American dental hygienists, and system of dental therapists were analyzed using the data published by the relevant associations. Results: In America, dental hygienists help address oral health inequalities. However, due to limitations in the supervision levels and scope of practice of dental hygienists, the autonomy of dental hygienists was expanded, and mid-level practitioner were employed. The autonomy for dental hygiene practice was higher in public than in private in America. Some states have introduced dental therapists as mid-level practitioners. Their practice settings have limitations such as serving low-income, uninsured, and underserved patients or serving in a dental health professional shortage area. Conclusions: It is necessary to expand the autonomy of dental hygienists based on their profession. In particular, it is suggested that they start with the low-risk level practices. Further, it is necessary to introduce a dental hygiene specialist system specialized for fields with high social demands.

For the past three years, the importance of automatic research has been increased. It was proved in previous research that the number of conducted research using 'Database' technique was the largest, but the amount of increase was the largest in research on 'BIM'. In consequence, it is predicted the research on 'BIM' will become a center of automation in construction. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to examine trends though classifying into each construction phase and developed extent of techniques related to professionalization and integration with other techniques within a range of 'Automation in Construction Journal' which has the biggest level of awareness in construction field.

Nursing, a profession, continues its efforts founard professionalization. Attention to efficiency and effectiveness of its organizational system must be balances with that of maintaining quality of care. The wise use of personnel is of particular concern. The structure of nursing's administrative organization is very important, because most nursing services are delivered through an organization. Professional bureaucracy is recommended for the structure and managerial strategy of nursing's administrative organization, Specifically, considerable decision -making in their work should be transferred to the staff nurses who provicle professional nursing services in direct interaction with the public. The co -ordinative parameters of the system should be based on professional nursing knowledge. The premise required by this commitment would be built on the identification of nursing knowledge and intellectual and behavioral standard of nursing practice.

이 연구는 미국 치과위생사의 역사를 역할변화의 관점에서 고찰한 것으로, '전문 조직', '교육 제도', '면허 제도', '역할과 업무범위', '의무와 윤리' 등 5개의 범주에 따라 미국치과위생사가 전문직이 되기 위해 어떤 과정을 거쳤는지 고찰하였다. 미국치과위생사는 그들의 사회적 조직화를 위해 미국치과위생사협회를 결성하였으며, 교육 연한은 2년 과정에서 석사 과정까지 증대되었다. 치과위생사 면허는 1952년에 미국 전 주에서 발급되었으며, 현재는 전문치과위생사자격증 등이 제안되고 있다. 업무범위는 구강보건교육과 치면세마를 시작으로 예방치과처치, 치주처치, 일부 수복치료, 마취 등까지 확대되었다. 이 연구는 전 세계 중 최초로 치과위생사 양성제도가 결성된 미국의 치과위생사가 전문직 역할을 수립해나가는 과정을 분석함으로써 각 국의 치과위생사 제도와 비교할 수 있는 기초자료를 제시한 데 의의가 있다고 사료된다.

The professional alliance between disciplines of architecture and furniture design in the interwar years as displayed in the prominent architectural exhibitions of the era is interesting in the context of professionalization of American architecture. The way furniture design gradually became part of the architectural shows not only reflected but provided the practical field in which the architectural institution sought, under the new social order since the mid 1910s, a new professional cast-departing from the former milieu in the realm of high-art by the Beaux-Arts Movement. Exhibitions held by the Architectural League of New York in the 1920s revealed that the early impetus for reformation toward efficiency had been subsumed by the system of Beaux-Arts. By contrast, "The Architect and the Industrial Arts" show of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in which the most prominent architects of the era exercised their professional expertise in the design of "Moderne Style" interior furnishings, clearly shows how architects, in the milieu of expanding commercial market, sought to align their profession as industrial designers.

The dynamic nature of the A/E/C industry, rapidly changing global market environments, and lowest cost competitive bidding make it difficult to survive in global design markets. To understand the global design markets, a case study has been undertaken. The top 150 global design firms represented in the ENR (Engineering News Record) from 1995 to 2003 are classified into three groups for the case study. First group is the firms which advanced in rank from 1995. Second group is the firms which maintained its rank from 1994 until 2003. Third group is the firms which went down in rank from 1995 until 2003. However, finding key factors and changing business strategies of successful top design firms are the fundamental goals in this paper. After examinations of case studies, this paper concludes and suggests that professionalization, M&A strategies, patrons of the government, and academic support are needed to be successful in the global design & engineering industry.
