  • The Epoxy-coated Reinforcing bars have been proved to be able to extend a durability life because of its excellent corrosion resistance in bridges and structures under marine and severe environments. The usage of epoxy-coated reinforcement is continuously increasing in developed countries such as the US and Japan. However, domestic use is extremely limited due to lack of research and development, poor production facilities, low quality, increase of initial costs, and difficulty of field management. This study suggests the improvement of construction quality management such as manufacturing, transportation and construction for the field application through the test construction of the proven product in the related test results of the epoxy coated steel bars produced in the recently improved manufacturing facility.

  • Many economists and policymakers regard the ratio of R&D investment to GNP to be a good indicator of a nation's technological capabilities. Consequently, their major policy recommendation to promote technological development is a rapid expansion in R&D investment. However, a low R&D ratio does not necessarily mean less efforts at technological advancement since the composition of technologies to be developed varies depending upon the stage of economic development. Technology policy to improve the international competitiveness of domestic industries should be based on the stage of economic development and present technological status rather than on a simple comparison with advanced countries. At Korea's stage of development, maximizing the efficiency of R&D investment is more important than enlarging the size of the investment. Strategic alliances between domestic firms and foreign enterprises should be encouraged to save time and costs involved in acquiring new technologies and learning how to use them. The government should establish institutional devices to stimulate private enterprises to internationalize their business activities such as R&D, production, and marketing. The government should also promote the development of domestic and international R&D networks, which can serve as the infrastructure for technological innovations.

The Determinants of New Product Diffusion : A Simultaneous Equation Approach (신제품의 확산 결정요인 : 연립방정식 접근법)

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the determinants of new product diffusion. We seek to document and explain systematic features of product diffusion. In this essay, we examine the well-documented empirical regularity that the speed of diffusion has accelerated during the twentieth century. The empirical results show that the main source of acceleration are faster declines in prices. Faster price declines make the product affordable to more consumers within a given period of time. Based on theories of intertemporal price discrimination and learning-by-doing, the association between the speed of adoption and the speed of price decline was explained. Faster price declines are attributed to several product characteristics as well as changes in income distribution. Above all, the introduction of consumer electronic products in more recent years can be regarded as the most important factor in accelerating price declines. Consumer electronic products are technologically different from non-electronic goods, in that semiconductors are important components. As the price of semiconductors has dropped rapidly, the falling production costs can be rapidly incorporated to the price of consumer electronic goods. Furthermore, most of the recently introduced consumer electronic products have network externalities, and many products with network externalities require complementary products. A complementary product becomes more readily or cheaply available as more people have the main product. One major difference between previous studies and this study is that the former focuses only on the factors that operate directly on the speed of adoption, while this study incorporated factors that work through price changes as well as the factors that work directly on the speed of adoption.

  • The recent trend in transportation planning information is to reduce traffic survey costs and enhance accuracy by using and converging various sources of external data. In Korea, mobile phone data can help generate useful transportation planning information, thanks to the universal use of mobile phones, which are present in a number greater than that of the population. This paper addresses measures to derive trip generation information from mobile phone data and verifies the value of the system for practical use by correlation analysis with KTDB trip generation data. The results show that trip generation information produced by mobile phone data correlates with existing (KTDB) trip generation data.

  • In Korea, water supply capacity and facility investments had been emphasized around the 1980s. The water pricing have gained focuses in water policy since the 1990s. This study analyzes a water demand and estimates the relation of water demand and other socio-economic variable, using econometric models on the city of Busan. Water price and income are two key elements to explain water demand. Modeling approach using translog function provides better results, and water demand responds positively to population and income. Energy and water prices are negative factors in deciding water demand. It is requested that water pricing needs to reflect more production costs. Alternative approaches such as water saving facilities by household and use of digital water information should be emphasized for efficient water management in a local community.

Electroless plating of buried contact solar cell (전극함몰형 태양전지의 무전해도금)

  • The metallization is the key to determining cell costs, cell performance, and system reliability. Screen printing technology suffers from several limitations affecting mainly the front grid. The buried contact solar cell (BCSC) was specifically desinged to be compatible with low cost, mass production techniques and avoid the conventional metallization problem. By using electroless plating technique, we performed this metallization inexpensively and reliably. This paper presents the details of the optimization procedure of metallization schemes on laser grooved cell surfaces. Commercially available Ni, Cu and Ag plating solutions were applied for the cell metallization. The application of those solutions on the buried contact front metallization has resulted in an cell efficiency of 18.8%. The cell parameters are an open circuit voltage of 651 mV, short circuit current density of 37.1 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$, and fill factor of 77.8 %. The efficiency of over 18 % was achieved in the above 90% of the batch.

  • Photovoltaic(PV) permits the on-site production of electricity without concern for fuel supply or environmental adverse effects. The electrical power is produced without noise and little depletion of resources. So BIPV(Building-Integrated Photovoltaic) system have been increased around the world. Hereby the relative installation costs of the system will be relatively low compared to traditional installations of PV in high-rise buildings. This paper examined possibility of building integrated balcony PV system and analyzed both performance and problems of this system. The system is influenced by conditions such as irradiation, module temperature, shade and architectural component etc. If this BIPV system of 1.1kW is possible the natural ventilation in the summer case, the temperature of PV module decrease and then the efficiency of PV system increase generally. By the results, the annual averaged PR of BIPV system of cold facade type is about 74.7%.

Valuing the Economic Benefits from the Residential Water Supply In Seoul (서울시 가정용수 공급의 경제적 편익 추정)

  • Water is an indispensable input to human's existence and industrial production. A water supply project would demand considerable costs, but produce economic benefits, which are importantly utilized in the project evaluation. In this situation, this study attempts to value the economic benefits from the residential water supply in Seoul. In particular, yearly consumer surplus and economic value of water supply for eleven water authority agencies in Seoul are measured during the period 2001-2004. Information on price elasticity required in calculating consumer surplus is obtained from direct estimation of the residential water demand function, and the consumer surplus is assessed by using a recently developed formula. Price elasticities used here are -0.810 and -1.011, and the estimated consumer surplus and economic value amount to 131.9 to 164.6 billion won and 398.6 to 431.3 billion won, respectively.

  • The Objective of this Study is to Prove the Effectiveness of a Smart Water Management(SWM) Technology. The SWM Technology can Reduce the Production Cost using Internet of Thing(IoT) Technology that Utilizes Remote Metering of Consumer's Water usage and Reduce the Leakage of Supply Facilities. The SWM Demonstration Model Installed a Remote Water Leakage Sensor, Smart Metering and Micro Multi Sensor in Water Supply Facility, and Provided Real-Time Monitoring of the Operation Status. Consumers can be Provided the usage of Tap Water and the Water Puality through a Smart Phone Application. At this Time, we Surveyed Whether Consumers save the Tap Water or Drinking Directly using the Tap Water usage Information. Also, this Study is to Verify the Degree of Improvement of Water Supply Rates and Drinking Water Rate, and to Decrease Consumer's Complaints, Operating Costs, and Water Consumption by the SWM Technology. It is also Established a SWM Model Combined with the IoT Sensor at Supply Facilities, operator monitoring system and explored recovery solution detected events. It means the upbringing of the domestic water industry by developing the related technologies and spreading the SWM to advanced levels.

Ability of the Natural Abrasives Recovered from Sludge (재활용 천연광물 연마재의 연마성능)

  • The ability of natural abrasives which were recovered from CRT glass polishing process was evaluated. Comparing the center line average roughness values of a glass polished with new pumice (Ra = $0.039{\mu}m$) and with new garnet (Ra = $0.031{\mu}m$), the glass surface polished with the recycled pumice and the garnet had less pits on the surface with smaller Ra values (Ra = $0.025{\mu}m$ for recycled pumice and Ra = 0.029 for recycled garnet). Recycled rouge contains amorphous glass fragments so that it should be used as a cement replacement rather than recycle into an abrasive. Nnatural abrasives, pumice and garnet powder, which are used in CRT glass polishing process can be recycled into abrasives so that it can help to minimize costs and environmental impact from the production of abrasives and the disposal of waste sludge.
