In designing and evaluating a new product, the company needs to give thought to the entire spectrum of produceability, usability, and ultimate reliability, as well as safety of users. For each design review(DR) stage, a formal, systematic, documented review and evaluation of a product design is conducted to assure that the product is safe and reliable, that costs and materials have been optimized, and that the design complies with its specifications and requirements. This paper presents how to improve development process for product's safety and reliability. The process requires gathering the appropriate information, determining the limits of the product, estimating risk associated with the task-hazard combinations, and reducing risk according to a prioritized procedure.
This paper introduces Primetals Technologies' Through-Process Optimization (TPO) Services and Through-Process Quality Control (TPQC) System, which integrate domain knowledge, software, and automation expertise to assist steel producers in achieving operational excellence. TPQC collects high-resolution process and product data from the entire production route, providing visualizations and facilitating quality assurance. It also enables the application of artificial intelligence techniques to optimize processes, accelerate steel grade development, and enhance product quality. The main objective of TPO is to grow and digitize operational know-how, increase profitability, and better meet customer needs. The paper describes the contribution of these systems to achieving operational excellence, with a focus on quality assurance. Transparent and traceable production data is used for manual and automatic quality evaluation, resulting in product quality status and guiding the product disposition process. Deviation management is supported by rule-based and AI-based assistants, along with monitoring, alarming, and reporting functions ensuring early recognition of deviations. Embedded root cause proposals and their corrective and compensatory actions facilitate decision support to maintain product quality. Quality indicators and predictive quality models further enhance the efficiency of the quality assurance process. Utilizing the quality assurance software package, TPQC acts as a "one-truth" platform for product quality key players.
A continuous development of new products is the lifeblood for firms that hope to maintain competency in competitive environments. Ongoing success in these environments is dependent on whether the management can choose or can't chose the proper mix of new product development strategy, new product development process, and organizational structure. Rather than considering the interrelationship among these success factors, however, most previous studies of new products development have examined these issues individually. Moreover, because past research has been unidimensional in nature, there is a lack of knowledge about how new product development strategy, process, and structure could be linked up each other. Consequently, we have no complete perspective of the linkage among new product development strategy, process, structure, and performance. The purpose of this study is to examine the new product development strategy, process, and structure of firms, and explore the effect of each on performance as well as linkage among strategy, process, strategy and structure.
This paper proposes a framework for product development including hardware and software components. The framework provides separation of the hardware dependent software, an integrated product development process, and integration of software components with product configurations and product structures. In order to separates the hardware dependent software, the framework considers product configuration modules and engineering changes of associated hardware and software components. The proposed product development process integrates development of the hardware dependent software into the existing product development process. In order to integrates the hardware dependent software with product configurations and product structures, the framework represents software components by existing product data models in Product Data Management (PDM). The framework is applied to development of a robot system including hardware and software components in order to show its effectiveness.
Increasing product variety based on product family and product platform provides a company with a competitive advantage over its competitors. As products become more complex, short-life cycled and customized, the design efforts require more knowledge-intensive, collaborative and coordinating efforts for information sharing. By sharing knowledge, information, component and process across different families of products, the product realization process will be more efficient, cost-effective and quick-responsive. Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) is used for analyzing data and forming semantic structures that are formal abstractions of concepts of human thoughts. A Web Ontology Language (OWL) is designed for applications that need to process the content of information instead of simply presenting information to humans. OWL also captures the evolution of different components of the product family. The purpose of this paper is to develop product variety modeling to increase the usefulness of common platform. In constructing and analyzing product ontology, FCA is adopted for conceptual knowledge processing. For the selected product family, product variety Ontology is constructed and implemented using prot$\'{e}$g$\'{e}$-2000.
In this paper, we examine the relationship between information type and new product development process. Information that was provided for new product development can be divided into two categories. One was relative information that could be used as a basis for comparison such as patent data. The other was absolute information that must be fulfilled in the new product such as key customers requirements. An experiment was conducted with staffs in an R&D department in order to analyze the impact of the different information types on the development process of new product. It was found that the group with the absolute information recognized the given information repeatedly, which in turn results in a highly technical idea with good teamwork. The group with the relative information created a superior product with better application, appearance and product efficiency through the frequent refinements of given ideas. This paper concludes with the implications of the results to the new product development process and supporting information systems.
In this paper, module of a product is determined by the characteristics of a product itself and art assembly process. To analyze the characteristics o( the product, assembly function, structure of subassembly and parts could be considered. Based on the analysis of characteristics of product structure, assembly process and product function, determination criteria of a module could be proposed. For the assembly process, assembly methods, assembly equipment and workers could be considered. For the product structure, constituent object and structural feature could also be considered. To obtain the interrelationship between the product and the assembly process, the matrix table could be used to find the influencing factors that affected the module.
Purpose: We measure service quality based on service process, and examine relationships among product quality, product and service loyalty. Methods: We develop a construct to evaluate process based service quality. We collect data from customers of auto maintenance centers to measure perceived product quality, service and product quality. We test relationships between constructs using structural equation model and regression analysis. Results: Relationships among perceived-product quality, service quality, service loyalty, and product loyalty are all significant. Conclusion: Perceived-product quality has a indirect impact through service quality and loyalty in addition to a direct impact on product loyalty.
The necessity of imformation on product design process is increased in recently years, because a product can be called a mass of information and becomes more complex as long as technology is developed. But the present product development method is like a relay race. In this sequential process, information is transferred from one department to other departments like \"over the wall\". And communication gaps among departments are generated, so imformation cannot be controlled very well. Therefore it is needed to innovate the design process. The information system proposedin this study is an application software which can be useful for integrated product design process. It has been developed primarily for use in IBN PC and windows environment. It comprises four functional modules; functions of handing the overall project information (document, ideaskech, rendering, drawing); functions of decision making production problems in design project process; functions of groupware which can link with other departments; functions of comprehensive database with production.roduction.
This study is concerned with a single-facility production system in which two kinds of products, product 1 and 2, are produced by two different processes, process 1 and 2. Product 2 is produced either by process 2 or by process 1 as by-product, while product 1 is obtained only through process 1. The repeating sequences of the two processes and their associated lot sizes are determined which minimize the total inventory related cost. A solution algorithm is developed and is illustrated with numerical examples.
