In this study, the most preferred trans fatty acid analysis methods, AOAC 996.06 and the Korea Food and Drug Administration official method, were reviewed and modified to apply to dairy products and dairy products imported into the Republic of Korea for evaluating trans fatty acid (TFA) content. The Rose-Gottlieb method for total fat analysis was validated with accuracy and precision parameters by analyzing infant formula standard reference material provided by the National Institute for Standards and Technology. The accuracy and precision data satisfied the CODEX guidelines. TFAs were analyzed with a resolution of 1.5 for 45 min using the modified oven temperature program. This modified method was applied to 45 dairy products from 11 countries. Average TFA contents in these imported dairy products ranged from 0.1 to 5.4 g per 100 g product. The majority of dairy products imported into the Republic of Korea were cheeses. TFA contents in the cheeses were 0.1 to 2.4 g per 100 g cheese. TFA contents in other dairy products were 1.7 to 5.4 g per 100 g product. These TFAs content variations can be explained by the trans fatty acids naturally present in ruminant milk formed by bacterial bio-hydrogenation in the rumen of cows and the different vegetable fat used as ingredients in the final products.

There are various activities for reduction of the greenhouse gasses (GHG) emission around the world. The countries agreed to submit their's individual plans to the United Nations and have operated programs related to the Climate Change, in addition, the enterprises have spontaneously been developed individual calculation methodologies of GHG emission. This paper aims at examining methods for calculating the effect of the reduction of environmental impact, being divided into three categories; international standard, country, enterprise. The reduction effects of environmental impact were compared by applying an existing product of the vehicle undercover and the uni-materialized product and being selected six calculation methods of environmental footprint. There are significant differences according to the evaluation methods of product environmental footprint (PEF) reduction. Main factors of differences are a gap in system boundary, a scope of data collection and the replacement amount standard of existing products. Stakeholders are unreliable in the results of PEF reduction because of the differences in results by each methodology. Therefore, it is necessary to disclose in detail the methodologies of calculating the PEF reduction that relevant people can easily understand, also to enable comparisons of the reduction results by developing the standardization of evaluation methods of PEF in the long term.

Nano sized ZnO particle as 20-30nm applies for material, pigments, rubber additives, gas sensors, varistors, fluorescent substance as well as new material such as photo-catalyst, sensitizer, fluorescent material. ZnO with a particle size in the range 20-30nm has provided to be an excellent UV blocking material in the cosmetics industry, which can be used in sunscreen product to enhance the sun protection factor and natural makeup effect. But pure ZnO particles application limits for getting worse wearing feeling. We make high-functional inorganic-composite that coated with nano-ZnO on the plate-type particle such as sericite, boron nitride and bismuthoxychloride. In this experiment, we synthesized composite powder using hydrothermal precipitation method. The starting material was ZnCl$_2$ Precipitation materials were used hexamethylenetetramine(HMT) and urea. We make an experiment with changing as synthesis factors that are concentrations of starting material, precipitation materials, nuclear formation material, reaction time, and reaction temperature. We analyzed composite powder's shape, crystallization and UV-blocking ability with FE-SEM, XRD, FT-IR, TGA-DTA, In vitro SPF test. The user test was conducted by product's formulator. In the results of this study, nanometer sized ZnD was coated regardless of the type of plate-powder at fixed condition range. When the coated plate-powders were applied in pressed powder product, the glaze of powder itself decreased, but natural make-up effect, spreadability, and adhesionability were increased.
The co-pyrolysis characteristics of polyvinylchloride (PVC) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) mixtures with various mixing ratios and effect of addition of CaO and $Cu_2O$ have been studied using thermogravimetry (TG) and gas chromatograph-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). In an isothermal decomposition conducted at $500^{\circ}C$, the yields of styrene monomers and aromatic compounds increased as the mixing ratio of ABS increased, and the yield of BTX compounds reached its maximum (16.14%) when the mixing ratios of PVC and ABS was 4:1. In an isothermal decomposition added with metal oxides, the maximum yield of liquid product was 73% when CaO [CaO/(PVC+ABS)=0.4] was added and it was 70% when $Cu_2O$ [$Cu_2O$/(PVC+ABS)=0.4] was added, respectively, where HCl contained in the gaseous product was completely removed when added with CaO [CaO/(PVC+ABS)=0.5] and $Cu_2O$ [$Cu_2O$/(PVC+ABS)=1.0]. Therefore, to obtain the highest yield of liquid product it appears to be the reaction condition: the reaction temperature of $500^{\circ}C$ and mixing ratios of CaO and $Cu_2O$ are 0.5 and 1.0, respectively.
The amplitude variation with offset of seismic data can detect fluids in the sediment and resolve the petrophysical properties of hydrocarbons in the subsurface. We analyzed and described the amplitude variation in deep sea seismic data obtained from the Ulleung Basin, East Sea. By inspecting seismic CDP-offset and CDP-angle gathers which show a bright reflection event, we decided a target zone for amplitude variation analysis. From the seismic angle gather at the middle of Ulleung Basin, we recognized amplitude increase or decrease versus offset on the intercept-gradient curve. Using the product attribute and Poisson's ratio change attribute computed in terms of intercept with gradient, the top and the base of gas saturated sediments were described. The area of amplitude variation suggestive of the presence of gas saturated sediments is shown at the depth of 3 s traveltime. Anomalous features of seismic amplitude in the Ulleung Basin were classified by the crossplot of intercept and gradient. The background trend of crossplot between intercept and gradient shows an inverse proportional relation that is common for wet sediments. Anomalous amplitudes of Class III fall into the first and the third quadrants on crossplots. We inferred regional gas/water saturated area with the horizontal dimension of 150 m in the Ulleung Basin by cross-section with respect to cross-plot anomaly.
Recent years have witnessed the increased usage of flammable metals, such as aluminum or magnesium, in wide range of high-tech industries. These metals are indispensable for the improvement of physical properties of materials as well as the design capability of the final product. During the process, unwanted metal dusts could be released to the environment. This can lead to an occupational health and safety issues. Due to their flammable nature, more serious problem of an explosion can happen in extreme cases. The explosion is the combustion of tiny solid particles and vapor mixture, caused by pyrolysis. This complex composition makes engineering analysis more difficult, compared to simple gas explosions or vapor cloud combustions. The study was conducted to assess this light metal dust explosion in an effort to provide the bases for a risk assessment. Dust explosion characteristics of each material was carefully evaluated and an appropriate analysis tool was developed. A comprehensive database was also constructed and utilized for the calibration of the developed response model and the verification for its accuracy. Subsequently, guidelines were provided to prevent dust explosions that could occur in top-notch industrial processes.

This paper examined the conversion of methane to hydrogen and other higher hydrocarbons using dielectric barrier discharge with AC pulse power. Two metal electrodes of a coaxial-type plasma reactor were separated by gas gap and an alumina tube. The inner electrode was located inside the alumina tube. The alumina tube was located inside the stainless steel tube, which was used as the outer electrode. Effect of feed gas composition (methane, oxygen, argon, water and helium), flow rate, applied frequency, input volt-age on methane conversion and product distribution were studied. The major products of plasma chemical reactions were ethylene, ethane, propane, buthane, hydrogen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. The increment of applied voltage and the usage of inert gas as the background (helium and argon) enhanced the selectivity of hydrocarbons and methane conversion. The addition of water in the feed stream enhanced the conversion of methane and yield of hydrogen. Higher voltage leads to higher yield of $C_2H_6,\;C_3H_8,\;C_4H_{10}$ and yield or $C_2H_2\;and\;C_2H_4$ appeared highly in lower voltage.
There is a need in food industry to store minimally processed garlic for long time to have it be used just at the time of demand for final product processing. Optimal modified atmosphere packaging is expected to slow down the quality change extending its storage life. In order to find optimal packaging conditions, plastic films of different gas permeability properties (low density polyethylene (LDPE) $30{\mu}m$, polyolefin $50{\mu}m$ (PD 900), polyolefin $20{\mu}m$ (PD 941)) were used for packaging 400 g of minimally processed garlic. Perforated LDPE packages were prepared as control. The packaged products were stored at $1{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ for 52 days. Package treatments were compared in weight loss, decay, surface color, hardness and soluble solid content. While control package had normal atmosphere of air, LDPE, PD 900 and PD 941 packages attained internal concentration of $O_2$ 4.6% / $CO_2$ 12%, $O_2$ 0.9% / $CO_2$ 21% and $O_2$ 0.5% / $CO_2$ 13% after 45 days, respectively. Control packaging had rapid weight loss with high mold decay and great surface color change in 45 days. In PD 900 film packages of lowest gas permeability, the fresh-cut garlic could be stored without mold decay for 52 days. Except control packaging, there were no significant differences in surface color, hardness and soluble solid content among package treatments.
A gas-substrate degrading bacterium, Nocardia SW3, was isolated from the gasoline contaminated aquifer using propane and butane as carbon and energy sources. We have examined the effects of substrate concentration, temperature and pH on the gas substrate degradation as well as MTBE cometabolic degradation. The result for the effect of substrate concentration showed that the maximum degradation rates of propane and butane were 30.6 and 25.4 (n㏖/min/mg protein) at 70 $\mu$㏖, respectively. The optimum temperature and pH for the degradation of gas substrate were $30^{\circ}C$ and 7, respectively. Substrate degradation activity, however, was still active in broad range of pH from 5 to 8 and temperature between $15^{\circ}C$and$35^{\circ}C$. The degradation activity of Nocardia SW3 for the MTBE was similar to the both substrates. The observed maximal transformation yields ($T_y$) were 46.7 and 35.0 (n㏖ MTBE degraded $\mu$㏖ substrate utilized), and the maximal transformation capacities ($T_c$) were 320 and 280 (n㏖MTBE degraded/mg biomass used) for propane and butane oxidizing activity on MTBE, respectively. And also, TBA was detected as by-product of MTBE and it was continuously degraded further.
As a way to evaluate the performance of IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) processes, heating values of coal gas as well as plant efficiency were compared for different rank coals and coal feeding methods by employing the static process simulation technique. Performance of the process was compared with coal rank that was varied by three assorted bituminous coals and also by three subbituminous coals, in addition to the two types of feeding techniques, i.e., dry-feeding and slurry-feeding, that are utilized in entrained-bed coal gasifiers. For the verification of the simulation technique, simulated results were compared first with the actual pilot plant data published from Shell and Texaco. The simulation technique was, then, applied to other coals. Result from tests varying coal rank exhibits the trend of improving both heating content of the product gas and plant efficiency with increasing carbon content in coal. The effect of coal rank is more sensitive in slurry-feeding cases compared to the dry-feeding cases. In particular, considering notably lower values in gas heating value and plant efficiency calculated in the slurry-feeding case that uses a subbituminous coal, limited utilization of the slurry-feeding method for subbituminous coals can be expected. From the plant efficiency point of view, dry-feeding method resulted in higher simulated efficiency values by maximum 3% for subbituminous coals and ca. l% for bituminous coals.
