  • A multi-type heat pump controls the mass flow rate of the working fluid to cope with variable heat loads when it is under dynamic load condition. This paper describes the exergy analysis associated with the unsteady response of a heat pump. First, a basic heat pump cycle is examined at a steady state to show the general trends of exergy variations in each process of the cycle. Entropy generation issue for the heat exchangers is discussed to optimize the heat pump cycle. Secondly, the performance of the inverter-driven heat pump is compared to that of the conventional one when the heat load is variable. Thirdly, the exergy destruction rate of the heat pump with On/Off operation is calculated by simulating the thermodynamic states of the working fluid in the condenser and the evaporator. The inefficiency of On/Off operation during the transient period is quantitatively described by the exergy analysis.

  • Oil Pump rotor is essential parts for automobile and, it is consisted of drive rotor and driven rotor in general. These parts are requested different properties according to environment. There are 2 types of Oil Pump rotor according to its usage. One is used for electric system, and the other is used for shaft-driven system. Especially, high precision and functionality is required in electric pump, and cost reduction is required in shaft-drive pump without slowing down its performance. This paper is mainly describing about the non-machine treated shaft-drive pump, based on the trial sample producing process.

  • Slurry wear with sand particles in rivers is a serious problem for pump operation. Therefore, a technique to predict wear volume loss is required for selecting wear resistant materials and determining specifications for the maintenance period. This paper reports a method for predicting the wear depth distribution on the blade of an impeller. Slurry wear tests of an aluminum pump impeller were conducted. Prediction results of wear depth distribution approximately correspond with the results of slurry wear tests. This technique is useful for industrial application.

  • Cylinder block is driven by tapered piston for bent-axis type piston pump, so that geometrical mechanism is very complicate. Piston rod must have not separated from shaft when shaft and piston rod is assembled. For this reason, shaft design is changed. Finite element analysis is performed for analyzed structural stability and flexible dynamic behavior. The result of the analysis, maximum equivalent stress occurred under yield stress, therefore structural stability is satisfactory. and flexible dynamic analysis give useful information about driving gear. These background data is avail of manufacture of piston pump.

  • The development of heavy-duty process pumps, usually based on various design criteria, depends on the pump's application. The most important criteria are Q-H, efficiency and NPSH characteristics. Cavitation due to inlet recirculation is not often one of the design criteria, although many problems in pump operation appear because of inlet recirculation, when the operation range is from 0.5-0.8 $Q_{opt}$. The present paper shows that steady state CFD analysis of inlet recirculation can give quite good results for the design of new hydraulic shapes, which have been developed to expand operating range and to minimize the harmful influence of recirculation at part load. In this paper, the structures of inlet recirculation are presented, as well as detailed shapes of vortices between the blades for various operating regimes, axial velocity distribution at the impeller inlet, the experimental results of NPSH and efficiency characteristics of an existing and newly designed pump.

  • This study aims to provide ways to achieve structural improvements of the internal flow path of the discharge plenum of a swash plate piston pump valve block vulnerable to cracks. This paper corresponds to Part II, which consists of a structural interpretation of the internal flow path of the discharge plenum of the valve block. The simple model result reviewed in Part I was incorporated into the valve block model and five different design changes were reviewed as part of the study on the structural improvement of the internal flow path of the valve block.

  • This study aims to provide ways to achieve structural improvements of the internal flow path of the discharge plenum of a swash plate piston pump valve block vulnerable to cracks. This paper corresponds to Part I, which consists of a structural analysis of the valve block, identification of the stress distribution and stress raisers, and creation of a Simple Model of the valve block to review the optimal design. Structural analysis was performed by assigning the same conditions as those found in the valve block model, and the design was reviewed by examining three different design improvement plans for the internal flow path of the discharge plenum.

  • A coolant pump is the device that cools processed articles and tools when using cutting, boring, and grinding machine tools and provides cutting oil for distributing or cleansing the cut chip to the worktable, processing position, etc. In particular, it consumes a large proportion of energy in machine tools, so it plays an important role in terms of energy efficiency. The purpose of this research is to optimize the shape of impeller, which directly affects performance improvements, to determine the capacity of the coolant pump. To do so, we carried out a parametric analysis with the geometric shape of the impeller as the input variable.

  • Due to commercialization of nuclear power, most countries have taken interest in decontamination process of nuclear power plant and tried to develop a optimum process. Because open literature of the decontamination process are rare, it is hard to obtain skills on decontamination of foreign country and it is necessarily to develop proper chemical decontamination process system in Korea. In this study, applicable possibility in chemical decontamination for reactor coolant pump (RCP) was investigated for the various stainless steels. The stainless steel (STS) 304 showed the best electrochemical properties for corrosion resistance and the lowest weight loss ratio in chemical decontamination process with immersion type than other materials. However, the pitting corrosion was generated in both STS 415 and STS 431 with the increasing numbers of cycle. The intergranular corrosion in STS 431 was sporadically observed. The sizes of their pitting corrosion also increased with increasing cycle numbers.

  • The efficiency, reliability and performance of any heat pump unit can only be ascertained after it has been tested and rated. For this reason, specific facilities, equiped with testing plants are built. Heat pump calorimeter is the facilities used by most of these testing facilities in their rating and certification process. The ultimate function of calorimeters is to, control and maintain the constant standard test conditions (indoor/outdoor entering temperatures and flow rate etc) during testing period. In this study, the test standards of heat pump unit and the structure of the calorimeter are surveyed. In addition, this study analyzes the total energy consumption of a water to water heat pump calorimeter. Heat pump calorimeter consumed much energy to excute the heat pump tests. The energy consumption of the calorimeter was higher than the heat pump unit, and it was increased as the heat pump unit capacity decreased.
