  • The manufacturing industry with Make-to-Order production system is difficult to decide the standard information for the product and the demand is variable to estimate. In this paper, we concerned with the process planning method using data mining in the manufacturing industry with Make-to-Order environment. The subject of our study is the industry transformer plant which is received an diverse order of customer and then produced the product. Currently, process planning method is classified the standard information by hand based on the acquired knowledge through the experience. The standard information stored the various information, such as work sequence, time and so on. This process planning method needs an experts which possesses the field experience for several years. For the product specification which is varied in each order, current process planning method is not efficient due to need many times To solve this problem, we extract the information using data mining process for each processing time, and then construct the knowledge base. We propose a method which is the process planning of the industry transformer product in Make-to-Order environment using the knowledge base.

  • This paper describes some research of Computer-Aided Process Planning and Die Design of Hot Forging for axisymmetric parts produced by the press. An approach to the system is based on knowledge based system. The system has been written in AutoLisp with personal computer. Knowledges for process planning & die design are extracted from the plasticity theories, handbooks, relevent references and empirical know-how of field experts in hot forging companies. The developed system is composed of five main modules, such as input module, process planning module, die design module, flow simulation module and output module which are used independently or in all. The final output is generated in graphic from. The developed system which aids designer provides powerful capabilities for process planning and die design of hot forging. This system also provides approximate flow pattern.

  • Generating NC-code from 3D part model needs a lot of effort to make many decisions, including machining area, tool change data, tool data, cutting condition, etc., by using either manual or computer aided method. This effort can be reduced by integration of automated process planning and NC-code generation. In case of generating NC code with a help of the process planning system, many data mentioned from the process planning can be used. It means that we can create NC-code about a full part. In this study, integration of FAPPS(Feature based Automatic Process Planning) with a NC-code generating module is described and additional data to adapt NC-code for machine shop is discussed.

  • This research describes some developments of computer-aided process planning and die design for hot forging products of H-shaped plane strain produced by the press. The system is composed of three main modules(process planning module, die design module and simulation module) which are used independently or in all. Systm capabilities include as follows: 1. In die design module, using the results of process planning module, the shape and size of bolcker and finish die in each operation are determined and the ouput id generated in graphic form for manufacturing drawing. 3. In simulation module, the flow pattern of workpiece and the load/stroke curve are approximately predicted. Design rules for process planning and die design are extracted from plasticity theories, handbooks, relevant references and empirical know-how of field experts in hot forging companies. The developed system provides poweful capabilities for process planning and die design of hot forging products.

  • Nowadays, there has been extreme competition due to market reduction in the domestic construction industry. In this situation, Korean construction companies are focused in the area of planning development housing project, which should maximize profit for a project. The most important step in this project is the business planning stage which judge whether it could come true or not. Each company has its own planning process model, but there hasn't been any standard model for the business planning process. To solve this problem in Korean construction companies, this study identifies the existing business planning process in the domestic construction companies finds out its problems, and suggests solutions for thorn. And Finally a business planning process model is proposed for success in development housing projects.

  • The aim of the study is to look at the impact of 'NPD process planning proficiency' on NPD performance. In particular, the current study examines this effect at firm's level (NPD program), rather than at the level of individual project. This study investigate the impact of process planning proficiency considering other NPD proficiencies (i.e. marketing and technical proficiency). In addition to the main effect of process planning proficiency, the current study investigates the interaction effect between process planning proficiency and marketing proficiency (or technical proficiency). Based on a cross-industry sample of 103 Korean manufacturers, this study examines the impact of NPD process planning proficiency on product family performance. The current study focuses on platform projects which play a critical role on product family's successes. NPD process planning proficiency has significant impact on both NPD technical and commercial performance. Technical proficiency is not directly associated with NPD performance. However, this study finds the interaction effects of technical proficiency with process planning proficiency on NPD performance.

  • To ensure competitiveness in the modem automotive market, process and material planning should be performed concurrently with new car developments. In automotive general assembly shops, thus, new business workflows and supporting environments are inevitable to reduce the manufacturing preparation time in developing a new car in the manner of concurrent and collaborative engineering. Since complete material planning for a whole general assembly system is a huge and complex job, several planners should execute their planning jobs and share information. Therefore, each planner should provide others with his/her results with continuous on-line communication and cooperation. In this research, a web-based system for concurrent and collaborative process and material planning for automotive general assembly via 3D digital mock-up S/W is developed. By using this system, savings in time and cost of process and material planning are possible, and the reliability of the planning result is improved.

  • This paper describes the process planning system of a computer-aided design of blanking and piercing for irregularly shaped sheet metal products. An approach to the system is based on knowledge-based rules. The process planning system is designed by considering several factors, such as the complexity of blank geometry, production feasibility of products, and punch profile complexity. Therefore this system which was implemented production feasibility check and strip layout module can carry out a process planning considering a production feasibility area of both internal and external features, a dimension of blanked hole, a coner and a fillet radius for irregualrly shaped sheet metal products and generate the strip layout in graphic froms. Knowledges for process planning are extracted from plasticity theories, handbooks, relevant references and empirical know- hows of experts in blanking companies. This provides powerful capabilities for process planning system of irregularly shaped sheet metal products.

  • This thesis reports the development of a Computer-Aided Process Planning system for rotational parts. The developed system ultimately generates process plans for rotational parts through a knowledge-base. The knowledge-base and decision-making algorithms are represented by Pascal computer programming language. We have developed a process planning system which adjusts the sequence of processes by itself to ensure the quality of the parts. This system generates more detailed job sequence and descriptions than other well-known process planning systems. We present realistic and efficient process plans through the integration of process planning and scheduling. This system optimizes flow time of parts by decreasing the number of machine set-ups.

  • According to the need for objectivity and convenience the whole planning process is devided into a secries of 8 systematic stages. But it is an unending upward spiral of incremented efforts toward improvement. So many activities should be carried out concurrently, providing a mutual supportive flow back and forth between various stages of the process depending on local conditions and requirements. The eight stages are: (1) Planning the Planning and Developing Planning Competence (2) Statements of Policy and Broad Goals (3) Data Gathering (4) Priority Statement (5) Statement of Major Alternative Proposals (6) Development of Detailed Plan (7) Implementation as a Part of the Planning Process (8) Evaluation The frame and function of the planning machinery must be adjusted to local conditions, and also flexibility is desirable, especially at the start, when adaptations are more necessary and more frequent.
