관찰에 의한 국민학교 3, 5학년 자연과 수업의 목표 분석 (The Analysis of Educational Objectives by Observation in the 3rd and 5th Grade Science Instruction)

  • This study pursued to find out the degree to which educational objectives are pursued in the 3rd and 5th grade science instructional of an elementary school. Twenty science instruional hours are observed during two month from May to July, 1989. Klopfer's science educational objectives system is used as the tool of objective analysis. Questionnaires for the ideal proportions of the educational objectives are answered by the professors and elementary school teachers. The writers regarded those results as the ideal proportions of the educational objectives. Results from the analysis of the instruction are as follows : 1. Results from analysis of the instruction in the third grade are as follows : knowledge and comprehension (A. 0) objectives are found to be pursued. about 40%. scientific inquiry process(B. 0-E. 0) objectives, about 29%, application of scientific knowledge and methods(F. 0) objectives. about 10%, manual skills(G. 0) objectives, about 11%, scientific attitudes and interests(H. 0) objectives, about 10% and orientation(I. 0) objectives is not pursued. 2. Results from analysis of the instruction in the fifth grade are as follows: knowledge and comprehension(A. 0) objectives are found to be pursued. about 31%, scientific inquiry process (B. 0-E. 0) objectives. about 38%, application of scientific knowledge and methods (F. 0) objectives, about 13%, manual skills(G. 0) objectives, about 7%, scientific attitudes and interests(H. 0) objectives, about 10%. 3. Results from the ideal proportions are as follows : Knowledge and comprehension(A. 0) objectives, 20.5%, scientific inquiry process(B. 0-E. 0) objectives, 46.5%, application of scientific knowledge and methods(F. 0) objectives. 8%, manual skills(G. 0) objectives. 9.5%, scientific attitudes and interests (H. 0) objectives, 9% and orientation(I. 0) objectives, 6.5%. 4. "You ideality index" is 29 in the third grade and 23 in the fifth grade. Science instruction of the fifth grade can be interpreted to be nearer to the ideal instruction in terms of educational objectives.

문제발견 및 가설설정 능력 신장 과학영재교육프로그램 개발: 멘델의 과학적 사고과정 적용 (Improvement of Students' Problem Finding and Hypothesis Generating Abilities: Gifted Science Education Program Utilizing Mendel's Law)

  • 본 연구는 역사적 발견을 이루어낸 과학자 가운데 멘델(Mendel, Gregor Johann, 1822-1884)의 과학적 사고과정을 활용하여 과학영재교육프로그램을 개발하고, 이 프로그램을 학습한 학생들의 문제발견 및 가설설정 능력의 변화를 측정하여, 프로그램의 효과성을 검증하는데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 먼저, 멘델이 유전법칙을 확립하는 과정에서 나타낸 과학적 사고과정을 분석하여 특징적 탐구요소를 추출하였다. 추출된 탐구요소 가운데 문제발견과 가설설정을 적용한 프로그램으로서 완두를 활용한 모의실험탐구중심의 과학영재교육프로그램을 개발하였다. 개발한 과학영재교육프로그램은 대학교 부설 과학영재교육원 소속 중학교 1, 2학년 학생 19명(남학생 11명, 여학생 8명)을 대상으로 적용되었다. 적용한 결과, 학생들은 문제발견 능력의 하위요소 융통성, 정교성, 독창성이 신장되었고, 가설설정 능력의 논리성도 신장되었다. 이에 개발된 과학영재교육프로그램은 중학교 과학영재로 선발된 학생들의 문제발견 및 가설 설정 능력을 향상시키는데 효과가 있는 것으로 고찰되었다.

미러뉴런시스템과 뇌졸중 재활 (Mirror Neuron System and Stroke Rehabilitation)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this article was to review the literature on mirror neuron system with reference to its functional diversity in stroke rehabilitation.. Method : This review outlines scientific findings regarding different neurophysiological properties in mirror neurons, and discusses their involvement in process of stroke rehabilitation. Result & Conclusions : Mirror neurons were first discovered in macaque monkey. These neurons, like most neurons in F5 areas in premotor cortex, fired when an individual performs an action, as well as when he/she observes a similar action done by another individual, although originally fired only during action execution. Mirror neurons form a network for motor planning and initiating of motor action. Thus, in stroke rehabilitation based on the mirror neuron-action observation, motor imagery, observation with intent to imitate and imitation-may help activate mirror neuron system for improved outcome of physical therapy. These studies provide a scientific theoretical basis and discuss for the use of mirror neuron system as a complement to clinical physical therapy in stroke rehabilitation.

생명현상에 대한 과학적 관찰에서 나타나는 과학 교사들의 두뇌 활성 및 기능적 연결 (Science Teachers' Brain activation and functional connectivity during scientific observation on the biological phenomena)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 중, 고등학교 과학교사들의 생명 현상에 대한 과학적 관찰에서 나타나는 두뇌의 활성 양상 및 기능적 연결 네트워크를 규명하는 것이다. 이를 위해 중, 고등학교에서 근무하는 26명의 건강한 오른손잡이 과학교사들이 이 연구에 참여하였다. 과학 교사들의 과제수행 과정에서의 두뇌활성을 측정하기 위하여 3.0T(테슬라)의 fMRI 시스템과 블록디자인의 관찰과제가 사용되었다. 신호의 수집과 분석에는 SPM2 프로그램이 활용되었다. 연구결과에 따르면, 관찰과정에서 과학교사들은 좌측 상전두이랑, 중전두이랑, 중심전두이랑, 하전두이랑, 양측 상두정소엽, 좌측 하두정소엽, 좌측 쐐기전소엽, 우측 중측두이랑, 양측 방추이랑, 좌측 상후두이랑, 양측 중후두이랑, 좌측 하후두이랑, 우측 혀이랑, 양측 방추이랑, 양측 쐐기소엽, 우측 해마옆이랑, 좌측 조가비핵, 그리고 양측 소뇌비탈의 활성을 보였다. 또한 이들 영역 중 관찰과정에서 기능적으로 연결성을 보이는 네트워크를 형성하는 것으로 선정된 11개의 영역에서 10개의 유의미한 기능적 연결을 형성하였다. 이러한 결과는 생명현상에 대한 과학적 관찰이 단순한 감각수용만을 넘어선 기능적 연결이 필요함을 시사한다.

  • This study has been performed in order to achieve three objectives. They are as follows: To analyze, based on the research literatures, the nature of scientific inquiry ability and the characteristics of its constitutive elements. To identify inquiry skills and techniques essential to such areas as physics, chemistry, biology. and earth science. To develop instructional models and materials for enhancing inquiry ability on the part of high school students. It was found in the study that the scientific inquiry was interpreted in terms of different meanings according to the viewpoint of the person who are interested in the nature of science. The scientific inquiry has been viewed as the process of knowledge formation, scientific method, inquiry process or process skills depending on the epistemological, methodological, educational perspectives, respectively. It was also identified that certain kind of skills or techniques would be used for inquiry in only one specific area of the science. This study drew a conclusion based on the findings that the skills and techniques will effectively be learned when those are taught with specific knowledge in each area of the science. Reported in this paper are the materials developed, for fostering scienctific inquiry skills on the part of the high school students. The materials were developed, using two themes of a theoretical-abstract chemistry topic and a conceptual-concrete biology topic. Those materals were designed for an experiment and an observation, respectively.

초등 과학 학습지도에서 포트폴리오 평가의 효과 (Effect of Portfolio Assessment in Elementary Science Teaching)

  • The Purpose of this study is to find the effects of the portfolio assessment on elementary students' scientific knowledge, inquiry process skill, scientific attitudes in the teaching of science. And finally the parents' response to the portfolio assessment is also investigated. In order to reach the goal of this study, the investigator developed the evaluation instrument such as an experimental report and a cumulative observation sheet for the 4th-grade Unit-1 'Light Propagation' and Unit-3 'Separating Mixtures', and then these were administered to 42 4th-grade elementary students in Inchon. Based upon the findings and within the limitations of this study, several conclusions can be drawn regarding the problems investigated. First, as the portfolio assessment offers enough information about individual student's performance, it has a highly positive effect on evaluating the students' scientific knowledges. It can also make possible to grasp the several aspects of the student's progress. Second, the portfolio assessment can be implemented without giving students any psychological pressure from testing itself. Therefore, the portfolio assessment is an effective means of appraising inquiry process skills. Third, the portfolio assessment is effective to evaluate the students' attitude toward science by means of individual records which include such aspects that is hardly found by the teacher who teaches science in the class. Fourth, as most parents showed a positive response to this portfolio assessment, it is considered to be effective method of appraising the result of teaching science at elementary school. Accordingly, this study demonstrated that the portfolio assessment is an effective method that can assess students' scientific knowledges, inquiry process skills, and scientific attitudes gained from science teaching-learning. Therefore, it is necessary to implement the portfolio assessment to other grade students as well in the following study where teacher may give more encouragements and suggestions to sti dents for the better learning motives. Also teachers should suggest more definite evaluation criteria to students so that they may improve the students' self and peer evaluation skills.

한국과 미국의 초등과학 교과서 과학 글쓰기 과제 분석 (Analysis of Science Writing Tasks in Korean and American Science Textbooks)

  • This study is intended to investigate the frequency of scientific writing tasks in Korean and American science textbooks, to compare the differences in types of posing the writing tasks according to the level of the children's scientific cognition, and to analyze the differences in the organization and development of writing ones of each chapter and thus to propose an effective way of presenting scientific writing in science textbooks. Korean 'Science' and 'Experiment Observation Workbook'and Macmillan Mcgraw-Hill(MMH) Science for fourth graders were analyzed for the purpose. The results are as follows: First, Korean textbooks contain more science writing tasks per pages, and less per chapters than MMH one. Both text books provide balanced amount of science writing tasks, yet MMH especially does systematic exercises for each chapter. Second, the qualitative analysis of the textbooks' scientific writing shows that both textbooks contain a significant amount of "understanding" and "explanatory" writing, which reflects that the purpose of writing in science textbooks is leaning towards acquiring and verifying scientific concepts. In American textbooks, however, writings utilizing extensive cognition process and materials are also present. It is necessary for textbooks to present diverse and expressive writing assignments including personal opinions. Third, there are differences in organization and development of science writing tasks. Science writing tasks in Korean textbooks are present independently with lesson objectives of the chapters and practices, while those in MMH are systematically developed. Based on these results, it is necessary to systemize the textbooks' way of presenting writing tasks for effective teaching and learning. By organizing the writing materials and thus developing diverse materials, and by implementing extensive cognitive process in the writing activities, textbooks will be able to contribute in attracting the students' interests and in improving their scientific knowledge.

실험실과 창의성 : 책임자와 실험실 문화의 역할을 중심으로 (Laboratory and Creativity: The Role of the Leader and Laboratory Culture)

  • 과학적 창의성은 새롭고 중요한 과학적 사실, 방법, 이론, 설명, 측정기구와 이를 낳는 활동이다. 지금까지 창의성에 관한 연구가 많이 이루어졌지만, 대학의 실험실에서 팀단위의 협동 연구에서 발현되는 과학적 창의성에 대한 이해는 부족하다. 본 논문은 우리나라에서 대표적으로 창의적인 실험실로 간주되는 서울대학교 RNA 유전체학 연구실에 대한 미시적, 경험적 참여관찰과 이론적 분석을 통해 실험실의 창의성을 구성하는 요소를 찾아내는 것을 목표로 한다. 창의적인 업적은 순간적인 영감에 의해서 이루어지는 것이 아니라 복잡하고 지속적인 진화의 과정을 필요로 하며, 이 과정에서 다양한 지식과 능력을 지닌 연구자들에게 맞는 분업과 협동 체계가 중요하게 요구된다. 또한 이러한 구조를 활성화 하는 실험실 문화와 실험실 책임자의 리더십이 중요하게 작용함을 관찰할 수 있었다.

과학 탐구 수행일지에 나타난 초등 과학영재의 지식생성과정 분석 (Analyzing Elementary Science-Gifted Students' Knowledge Generation Processes in Scientific Inquiry Performance)

  • 이 연구는 영재학생들이 작성한 탐구수행일지에서 나타나는 지식생성과정을 분석한 것이다. 분석한 결과, 첫째, 영재학생들은 다양한 지식생성과정을 보여 주었으나, 귀납적 과정과 귀추적 과정이 대부분이었으며, 그 또한 매우 단순한 사고과정만을 보여주었다. 둘째, 영재학생들의 지식 생성 과정은 제한된 범위의 관찰과 경험 상황을 바탕으로 한 단순 반복적인 도식적 문답 과정이 많으며, 단순 반복적인 도식성은 간단한 변인 선택 및 고안, 제한된 범위의 관찰, 주관적 사고로 인한 편견 개입, 탐색이나 결점 찾기 등이 잘 이루어지지 않아 발생하는 것으로 생각되며 이와 더불어 추론의 비약이 자주 나타났다.

초등학교에서 로봇활용실험이 과학탐구능력에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of the Lab Practices Using Robot on Science Process Skills in the Elementary)

  • 본 연구는 초등학교 과학수업에서 로봇활용 MBL수업을 적용 후 학생들의 과학탐구능력에 미치는 교육적 효과를 조사하였다. 또한 로봇활용 과학수업에 대한 학생들의 인식 조사 및 인터뷰가 수행되었다. 실험 집단은 로봇활용 과학 수업을 통제집단은 교과서, 실험관찰을 활용한 전통적인 과학수업을 실시하였다. 연구결과 탐구능력의 측정, 예상, 추리 세 가지 영역에서 유의미한 차이가 발견되었다(<.05). 그러나 관찰과 분류 요소에서는 유의미한 차이는 발견되지 않았다. 로봇활용 과학실험 수업에 대한 학생들의 인식조사 결과 로봇을 통하여 과학수업에 흥미를 가지게 되었으며 쉽게 학습내용을 이해한 것으로 나타났다.
