  • Recently, some integrated structural identification/damage detection and reliability evaluation of structures with uncertainties have been proposed. However, these techniques are applicable for off-line synthesis of structural identification and reliability evaluation. In this paper, based on the recursive formulation of the extended Kalman filter, an on-line integration of structural identification/damage detection and reliability evaluation of stochastic building structures is investigated. Structural limit state is expanded by the Taylor series in terms of uncertain variables to obtain the probability density function (PDF). Both structural component reliability with only one limit state function and system reliability with multi-limit state functions are studied. Then, it is extended to adopt the recent extended Kalman filter with unknown input (EKF-UI) proposed by the authors for on-line integration of structural identification/damage detection and structural reliability evaluation of stochastic building structures subject to unknown excitations. Numerical examples are used to demonstrate the proposed method. The evaluated results of structural component reliability and structural system reliability are compared with those by the Monte Carlo simulation to validate the performances of the proposed method.

  • The goal of this study is simulation of optimal search pattern of ships based on performance surface which are reflected underwater environmental. The process is as follows. First, temporal and spatial environmental database are extracted in complex environment and input hull mounted SONAR system parameters. The environmental database and SONAR system parameters are substituted to SONAR equations, and calculate signal excess, detection probability, detection range. And then, the performance surface, which can be used to provide operational insight of SONAR detection performance, are pictorialized. Finally, optimal search pattern of ships are simulated using genetic algorithm based on performance surface. And then, we certify optimal search pattern in various ways.

  • In this work, a neuro-fuzzy inference system combined with the wavelet denoising, PCA (principal component analysis) and SPRT (sequential probability ratio test) methods is developed to detect the relevant sensor failure using other sensor signals. The wavelet denoising technique is applied to remove noise components in input signals into the neuro-fuzzy system The PCA is used to reduce the dimension of an input space without losing a significant amount of information. The PCA makes easy the selection of the input signals into the neuro-fuzzy system. Also, a lower dimensional input space usually reduces the time necessary to train a neuro-fuzzy system. The parameters of the neuro-fuzzy inference system which estimates the relevant sensor signal are optimized by a genetic algorithm and a least-squares algorithm. The residuals between the estimated signals and the measured signals are used to detect whether the sensors are failed or not. The SPRT is used in this failure detection algorithm. The proposed sensor-monitoring algorithm was verified through applications to the pressurizer water level and the hot-leg flowrate sensors in pressurized water reactors.

  • Energy detection based spectrum sensing compares the energy of a received signal from a primary user with a detection threshold and decides whether it is active or not in the frequency band of interest. Here the detection threshold depends on not only a target false alarm probability but also the level of the noise energy in the band. So, if the noise energy changes, the detection threshold must be adjusted accordingly to maintain the given false alarm probability. Most previous works on energy detection for spectrum sensing are based on the assumption that noise energy is known a priori. In this paper, we present a new energy detection scheme updating its detection threshold under the assumption that the noise is white, and analyze its detection performance. Analytic results show that the proposed scheme can maintain a target false alarm rate without regard to the noise energy level and its spectrum sensing performance gets better as the time bandwidth product of the signal used to estimate the noise energy increases.

  • Maximum Likelihood (ML) detection is well known to exhibit better bit-error-rate (BER) than many other detectors for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel. However, ML detection has been shown a difficult problem due to its NP-hard problem. It means that there is no known algorithm which can find the optimal solution in polynomial-time. In this paper, Semi-Definite relaxation (SDR) is iteratively applied to ML detection problem. The probability distribution can be obtained by survival eigenvector out of the dominant eigenvalue term of the optimal solution. The probability distribution which is yielded by SDR is recurred to the received signal. Our approach can reach to nearly ML performance.

  • Based on the measured data in the south western sea of Jeju Island during the SAVEX15(Shallow Water Acoustic Variability EXperiment 2015), the effect of internal waves on the PPD (Predictive Probability of Detection) of a sonar system was analyzed. The southern west sea of Jeju Island has complex flows due to internal waves and USC (Underwater Sound Channel). In this paper, sonar performance is predicted by probabilistic approach. The LFM (Linear Frequency Modulation) and MLS (Maximum Length Sequence) signals of 11 kHz - 31 kHz band of SAVEX15 data were processed to calculate the TL (Transmission Loss) and NL (Noise Level) at a distance of approximately 2.8 km from the source and the receiver. The PDF (Probability Density Function) of TL and NL is convoluted to obtain the PDF of the SE (Signal Excess) and the PPD according to the depth of the source and receiver is calculated. Analysis of the changes in the PPD over time when there are internal waves such as soliton packet and internal tide has confirmed that the PPD value is affected by different aspects.

  • The development of innovative technology through the 4th Industrial Revolution is actively used in the defense field. In particular, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities using drones will be of great help to the development of military combat capabilities, such as preparing for future military personnel reductions and reinforcing alert capabilities. In this study, we analyze the combat efficiency of drones how helpful drones can be to the military operations through simulations. Drones and enemy move in the efficient shortest path within a two-dimensional space in which operational areas are mapped into number such as detection probability. Based on the detection probability of an enemy infiltrating along the path with the lowest detection probability, the detection probability change that occurs whenever a drone is additionally deployed is presented, and we analyze the combat efficiency according to the additional drone input. Simulation proves that the increase in combat efficiency decreases as more drones are added in small operational areas such as company-level operational areas. This study is expected to contribute to the efficient operation of a limited number of drones in company-level units and to help determine the most desirable quantity of drones for additional combat power improvement.

  • Spectrum sensing plays an important role in spectrum sharing. Energy detection is generally used because it does not require a priori knowledge of primary user (PU) signals; however, it is sensitive to noise uncertainty. An order statistics (OS) detector provides inherent protection against nonhomogeneous background signals. However, no analysis has been conducted yet to apply OS detection to spectrum sensing in a wireless channel to solve noise uncertainty. In this paper, we propose a robust spectrum sensing scheme based on generalized order statistics (GOS) and analyze the exact false alarm and detection probabilities under noise uncertainty. From the equation of the exact false alarm probability, the threshold value is calculated to maintain a constant false alarm rate. The detection probability is obtained from the calculated threshold under noise uncertainty. As a fusion rule for cooperative spectrum sensing, we adopt an OR rule, that is, a 1-out-of-N rule, and we call the proposed scheme GOS-OR. The analytical results show that the GOS-OR scheme can achieve optimum performance and maintain the desired false alarm rates if the coefficients of the GOS-OR detector can be correctly selected.

  • Intrusion detection in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is of practical interest in many applications such as detecting an intruder in a battlefield. The intrusion detection is defined as a mechanism for a WSN to detect the existence of inappropriate, incorrect, or anomalous moving attackers. For this purpose, it is a fundamental issue to characterize the WSN parameters such as node density and sensing range in terms of a desirable detection probability. In this paper, we consider this issue according to two WSN models: homogeneous and heterogeneous WSN.

  • This paper proposes a prior maximum likelihood (ML) detection verifier which has an ability to verify if the zero forcing (ZF) detection results are identical to the ML detection results. Since more than 90% of ZF detection results are identical to ML detection results, the proposed verifier makes it possible to omit the computationally complex ML detection in 90% cases of MIMO signal detections. The proposed verifier is designed by using the diversity gain obtained from converting MIMO signal into single input multiple output (SIMO) signals. In the proposed method, single input multiple output (SIMO) signals for each transmit antenna are separated from MIMO signals after the MIMO signals are detected by ZF method. Computer simulations show that the true alarm probability of the proposed verifier is more than 80% and the false alarm probability is less than $10^{-4}$.
