Background and objective: A great deal of previous research has highlighted the value of educational and cultural facilities embedded in housing prices, by taking a large spatial area as the focus, such as the city or district level. However, few studies have investigated the extent to which educational and cultural facilities influence the formation of housing prices from an accessibility perspective. This study aims to identify the value of educational and cultural facilities embedded in the housing prices in Seoul Metropolitan City with a focus on the concept of the residents' neighbourhood and accessibility. Methods: To this end, this research used a spatial regression model with educational and cultural facilities as the independent variables and housing prices as the dependent variable. The model assessed the accessibility of cultural and educational facilities by considering geographic effects. Results: The findings are as follows. First, the spatial error model was found to be the best fit for multi-unit housing, while the spatial lag model was more appropriate for single-unit housing and apartments. Second, private educational facilities and art museums had positive effects on single- and multi-unit housing prices, while historical sites had a negative effect. Finally, private educational facilities positively influenced apartment prices, whereas public libraries and urban park areas had a negative effect. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the accessibility of educational and cultural facilities reflects residents' preferences and needs, which will ultimately influence housing prices.

The purpose of this study is to analyze domestic academic library development plans, check whether key components are reflected, and seek ways to improve the establishment of academic library development plans. To this end, a rubric evaluation technique derived from research related to evaluation of foreign universities and libraries was used. The libraries of the top 15 domestic universities were selected by referring to the QS World University Evaluation and THE World University Evaluation as the subjects of the study, and how much the core components of the development plan were reflected were evaluated. The results of the study are as follows. First, as a result of evaluating the university library development plan, most of the contents of 'purpose', 'goal', and 'action plan' were reflected, but vulnerabilities were found in 'mission' and 'vision'. Second, some private academic libraries were moving toward strategic planning at the level of advanced countries, including all of the core components. Third, although most academic libraries specified 'purpose', it showed limitations due to perfunctory description and connection. In the comprehensive evaluation, out of the highest score of 15, 12 were good and 3 were poor, indicating that the development plans of domestic academic libraries were generally at a 'good' level. As an improvement measure, it was suggested to form a task force for development plan establishment, to disclose and promote development plans, and to strengthen education on development plans for librarians.

"Jonkyongkak" which King, Sungjong of Yi dynasty established within Sungkyunkwan in 1475 is regarded as the first university library in Korea. On the basis of modern librarianship, however, it is desirable to recognize the fact that Keijo Imperial University Library is really the first university library in Korea. In this thesis, an attempt to study the Korean university libraries under the period of Japanese control is provided. Keijo Imperial University Library is the key institution in this study. This study will focus to review the following facts: 1) the historical background of Keijo. Imperial University Library; 2) the organization and staffing pattern, and budget of this library; 3) the acquisition policy and basic collection development plan of this library; 4) the library and other services of this library including readers services; 5) the relationship with other private college libraries; and 6) the impact of this library on the present Seoul National University Library. The followings are the outlined conclusions: 1. Japanese Government had established Keijo Imperial University Library in order to perform the colonial education policy of Korean peninsula. Furthermore, it was one of the import supporting agencies for the research activities which were necessary for Japan to govern the Southeast Asia including Korean Peninsula 2. The organization and staffing size and pattern of this library are much below to those of modern university libraries. They are somewhat below to the level which is necessary to perform the minimum basic library functions. 3. The priorities of book collection of this library are 1) humanities and social sciences especially, materials on Law are much emphasized; 2) pure sciences and 3) technologies and agriculture. Therefore, the quantity of the materials on the field of technology and agriculture is very small. 4. The acquisition policies of this library are deeply influenced by the Japanese Government's colonial policy of Korean peninsula and her aggressive policy of Chinese Continent. 5. The major contribution of this library to the present Seoul National University Library is the transfer of 550,000 volumes of books and library building, but this building is now removed according to the transfer of Seoul National University Campus. 6. The staffing pattern of this library was, however, much ahead of that times. Especially, the facts that professional librarians were eligible to be appointed as the director of this library, and they had the faculty membership including faculty rank should be highly appreciated.

The purpose of this study is to apply the Servicescape, which is used to measure the spatial services in marketing, to the studies on university libraries, in order to identify the influence of the library spaces and facilities on the satisfaction and continuance intention of the users of university libraries. For this purpose, questionnaires and in-depth interviews were conducted for users in ten private universities located in Seoul. Servicescape factors of the libraries showed that cleanliness, comfort, aesthetics, and convenience had a significant influence. Of these, convenience turned out to have the highest level of influence upon satisfaction, followed by cleanliness, aesthetics, and comfort. Descriptive statistical analysis showed whether there were significant differences in satisfaction and continuance intention based on the differences in the characteristics of the samples. Findings show that it would be necessary to provide spaces that can accommodate the various functions of a university library; seek advancement of the services; and develop the spaces of a library in consideration of cleanliness, comfort, aesthetic, and convenience. This study introduced the concept of Servicescape for the first time in the field of library and information science. This study implies that the results assist a more detailed analysis for the Library as Place dimension of LibQUAL+, and provide a new guideline for practitioners who design library spaces.

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships among the factors affecting unanswered reference/information service and to suggest alternative steps which would overcome the unsatisfactory outcome in reference/information service policy. A questionnaire on the quality of reference/information service was developed to survey librarians and users in 10 different private and national university libraries. About half of 500 responses indicated dissatisfaction with the reference/information service and 10 variables were eventually identified as the primary factors which have significant relationships with users's satisfaction. Collection variables were identified as major factors associated with the unanswered service but the analysis of each factor's influence on a reference/information transaction has shown that there exist significant relationships among variables of librarian and environmental variables and the users' satisfaction. Tiered or non-tiered reference/information service showed positive relationships with collection and environmental factors.

The purpose of this study is to provide directions for more effective and efficient service for library user by evaluating and analyzing library service access points on university library homepages. 69 national/public and private university libraries throughout the country are selected by stratified sampling method. In the current situation where systematic and active disaster management is becoming more important, domestic libraries do not have their own disaster management plans or support systems. In order to improve these problems, this study looked at overseas cases. Among them, we looked at Japan, where related cases and research are actively underway due to its exposure to various geopolitical disasters. In particular, we focused on cases of public-private cooperation established after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Association's Library Disaster Response Committee and saveMALK, a voluntary network of experts. The Library Disaster Response Committee played a central role in organizing donations and volunteer activities, and saveMALK played a role in collecting and sharing information by forming a collective intelligence among relevant experts. This analysis of the Japanese case has positive implications for building collaborative disaster management system.

Even though attempts are made to transform from 2D CAD to BIM representation for building design and construction, it were not so successful for practical implementation until recently in construction industry in Korea. However, there is a dramatic change for the use of BIM by collaboration among government, independent organizations as well as industry itself. Government reckons that BIM is an important tool for environment friendly construction and industry competitiveness. The government not only makes national BIM standards and push policies in order to make market environment. Independent organizations such as BuildingSMART Korea does active role to stimulate the transformation process successfully. They act as opinion leaders for the Government to consider BIM implementation for industry competitiveness issue. They make roadmap as well as technical standards and guidelines. It also leads technical developments and supports for its implementation. Government supports researches for the implementation of BIM. The research includes BIM standards, guidelines, linking with existing Architectural Administrative Information Systems, making libraries as well as education. Government makes policy for BIM as a compulsory data for bidding process of newly designed government buildings. Private sector not only agrees BIM as a tool to adapt but also essential methods for its survival in domestic and foreign construction market. Architectural design companies and constructions companies currently develop technical skills and implement BIM for new projects such as Dongdaemoon Plaza that cannot be successfully drawn by conventional methods.

This paper aims to analyze the employment of graduates majoring in Library and Information Science(LIS) in K University, to identify problems in the employment of those graduates, and to propose approaches to improve employment. Among 178 graduates getting a job for five years from August 2006 to February 2011, 65% of them was employed, 32% was not employed, and 3% continued further study, The 116 graduates employed were analyzed. The results revealed that 40% are full-time employees and 60% are part-time workers. For workplace types, 29% worked in general companies and 16% worked in public libraries. 10% worked in school libraries and college libraries. Those who worked in administrative divisions in colleges or schools comprised 9%. Those who worked in public organizations and publishing companies/bookstores were 6% each. 5% worked in specialized libraries. In the case of duties, 38% were librarians. 30% were engaged in office work. Those in sales/administration were 7%. Tellers/salesperson comprised 7%. 5% worked as teaching assistants and 3% worked in the web or in IT related businesses. Those who worked in private institutes and product planning/design comprised 2% each. Teacher librarians, day care center teachers, secretaries, company newsletter reporters, soldiers and self-employed workers were 1% for each. As a result, the major congruence was around 40%. For the career which the (56) unemployed desired, 57% prepared themselves for employment and 21% prepared for Civil Service Examination. Those who prepared for teacher recruit examination and who weren't confirmed were 11% for each. The problems identified were high unemployment to 32%, higher employment as part-time workers than full-time workers, and major congruence of just around 40%. As the results, the study proposes that the national and local authorities should actively create jobs, make the students majoring in LIS have the opportunity to understand and experience jobs related to information science, develop jobs related to LIS on the academic level and provide guidance to graduates.
