  • This is a study of the measurement of inter papillary constance (P.D) in 702 old aged farmers (aged over 45) and the comparision of frame size and distance space of optical center (O.C) from 240 Ready-made Reading spectacles. The average of P.D in male (62.83mm) is greater than in female (61.18mm), and the O.C of Ready-made Reading spectacles of Plastic lens (71.2mm) longer than glass lens (70.8mm). The correction prism power by wearing Reading spectacles in male was 0.7prism to 3.6prism and in female was 0.9prism to 4.4prism. So the prism power in female is greater than in male.

  • Eye Glass Display (EGD) with microdisplay to realize the virtual display can make the large screen, so virtual image has been developed by using microdisplay panel. This paper shows study of spherical prism lens design and manufacture of a small size and light weigh EGD with 0.59" OLED panel. Code V is used and it designed an aspherical prism lens about eye relief 25mm and 42 degree of filed of view (FOV). With the application this aspheric prism lens to OLED type's microdisplay, virtual image showed 60 inch at 2m. It had less than 2% of distortion value and modulation transfer function in axial had 30% of resolution with 32 lp/mm spatial frequency. We made an injection molding bases to lens designed.

  • Purpose: To design an anamorphic aspherical prism lens for the HMD optical system. Methods: First, we get the initial data, needed in design, which are distances between each surface etc., by analyzing user's demended specifications and by drawing geometrically the shape of prism lens by using CAD. Based on these data and using 'ode V' which is an optical design software, we could progress the optimization in which we treat the coefficients of the anamorphic aspherical surface as the principal variables. To reduce the cost in DTM manufacturing, we would optimize the optical system with the transmitting surface, existed in the direction of video device among 3 surfaces of the prism lens, remaining as a plane. Results: we could design one anamorphic aspherical prism lens which has the finite ray aberration of 15 ${\mu}m$, the distortion of 0.5%, and the MTF value of 0.3 over at 36 lp/mm for the video device of 12 mm ${\times}$ 9 mm size. Conclusions: We designed a prism lens used for HMD. This prism lens has the optical capacities of 15 ${\mu}m$ finite ray aberration and 0.5% distortion for the video device of 12 mm ${\times}$ 9 mm size, and become the optical system having the MTF value of 0.3 over at 36 lp/mm.

  • We have investigated anamorphic prism lenses with distortions of 0.3-0.5%. We designed the plastic triangular lens and confirmed the minimum resolution using MTF graphs. Also we confirmed that the SVGA optical system can realize a resolution of $864{\times}648$ 56 megapixels. A distortion of about 0.5% aberration appears in the maximum field, and a finite beam aberration of about $15{\mu}m$ is confirmed. We made a mold based on the design data and completed the prism lens through exodus molding. We confirmed the shape error (< $30{\mu}m$) and surface roughness (> 40 nm) of the three sides. We made the video-information-display prototype glasses using prism lens by measuring the performance, we determined the distortion aberration (0.3%) and SVGA resolution. Our approach will enable fabrication of a portable large-screen display device for glasses and sunglasses for the domestic market and, after 2015, for the world market.

  • This study presents the compact zoom lens with a zoom ratio of 5x for a mobile camera by using a prism. The lens modules and aberrations are applied to the initial design for a four-group inner-focus zoom system. An initial design with a focal length range of 4.4 to 22.0 mm is derived by assigning the first-order quantities and third-order aberrations to each module along with the constraints required for optimum solutions. We separately designed a real lens for each group and then combined them to establish an actual zoom system. The combination of the separately designed groups results in a system that satisfies the basic properties of the zoom system consisting of the original lens modules. In order to have a slim system, we directly inserted the right-angle prism in front of the first group. This configuration resulted in a more compact zoom system with a depth of 8 mm. The finally designed zoom lens has an f-number of 3.5 to 4.5 and is expected to fulfill the requirements for a slim mobile zoom camera having high zoom ratio of 5x.

  • Two axes lateral-shearing interferometer(LSI) specially devised for production line inspection lenses is presented. The interferometer composed with four prisms and a dove prism can test the lens performance including asymmetric aspheric lens. The dove prism which rotates the input image with respect to optical axis makes it possible. The wavefront passing through the test lens is reconstsucted by the phase derivative obtained form the two axes LSI system. Zernike-polynomials fitting of this wavefront is presented for determinating quantitative aberration of aspherical lenses.

  • Purpose: Of the various methods of vision training, the essay aims to explore the effective ways of using the Fresnel prism lens in order to expand the positive fusional vergence for the patient having specific condition of convergence insufficiency or basic exophoria. Methods: 15 students of city of Daejeon university without an eye disease (average age $22.73{\pm}1.68$) were selected and underwent the subjective refraction test and binocular vision test, and recording their test results before vision training and replacing an identical frame with a lens of same quality after the full calibration, the lens was then adhered with the Fresnel prism lens and continued to train for thirty minutes daily during two weeks. Afterwards, the binocular vision test was reattempted. The observation of the change in the results of the binocular vision test in use of the fresnel prism lens in the vision training test was researched. Results: After training, the positive fusional vergence had increased to a number of $22.27{\pm}2.26$ $\Delta$, to 7.80 $\Delta$, at near, the fused cross cylinder test increased to an average of $0.55{\pm}0.09$ D, 0.40 D after training, showing a normal result. The value of negative relative accommodation after training had an average of $2.22{\pm}0.08$D, showing that 0.42 D had increased. The value of near point of convergence after training had an average of $6.13{\pm}0.53$ cm, showing that 2.80 cm had decreased. To patients who had convergence insufficiency or basic exophoria, the value of the near vision test that used the Fresnel prism lens which was able to expand BO positive fusional vergence had increased without phoria. Conclusions: The changes were tested and the effectiveness of the Fresnel prism lens, due to the nature of the lens itself, helped with both cosmetic effects and cost. It also allows good optical correction effects, in addition to these clinical effects indicated before. Therefore, it may be determined that the Fresnel prism lens binocular vision therapy for patients is more popular and highly recommended.

  • We have studied the astigmatism according to the bevel position and the tilting(pantoscopic) angle of decentered spectacle lens for prism prescription. For prism prescription, generally we make a general spectacle lens into decentered spectacle lens. At this time the bevel position of decentered lens is a important matter, because the difference between optic axis and visual axis occur aberrations. Using the calculation we find that the case that the axis of bevel rotation band passes the front curvature center of (+) lens has a smaller astigmatism than the case that the axis of bevel rotation band passes the rear curvature center of (+) lens and that the case that the axis of bevel rotation band passes the rear curvature center of (-) lens has a smaller astigmatism than the case that the axis of bevel rotation band passes the front curvature center of (-) lens. We find the lens with higher refraction index has a smaller astigmatism.

  • Abstract Head-mounted displays(HMD) are being developed and marketed in growing numbers for a variety of applications. Though most commonly associated with entertainment applications other applications are also being developed. The field vision on the display screens is expanded by the optical system producing an imaginary screen that appears to be positioned several meters in front of the viewer. In this study, the mold core for the prism lens of HMD was processed by fly-cutting method, and the form accuracy of the mold core was measured.

  • A light-guide plate of an LCD backlight coupled with a microfresnel lens array (MFLA) is designed and analyzed. Computer simulated results of optical characteristics of our MFLA-type light-guided plate compared with the conventional prism-type one are presented. We show that the MFLA-type light-guide plate can replace well the conventional prism-type plate.
