Advanced surface spectral-reflectance estimation using a population with similar colors (유사색 모집단을 이용한 개선된 분광 반사율 추정)

  • The studies to estimate the surface spectral reflectance of an object have received widespread attention using the multi-spectral camera system. However, the multi-spectral camera system requires the additional color filter according to increment of the channel and system complexity is increased by multiple capture. Thus, this paper proposes an algorithm to reduce the estimation error of surface spectral reflectance with the conventional 3-band RGB camera. In the proposed method, adaptive principal components for each pixel are calculated by renewing the population of surface reflectances and the adaptive principal components can reduce estimation error of surface spectral reflectance of current pixel. To evacuate performance of the proposed estimation method, 3-band principal component analysis, 5-band wiener estimation method, and the proposed method are compared in the estimation experiment with the Macbeth ColorChecker. As a result, the proposed method showed a lower mean square ems between the estimated and the measured spectra compared to the conventional 3-band principal component analysis method and represented a similar or advanced estimation performance compared to the 5-band wiener method.

  • Facial expression recognition is an intensive research area for designing Human Computer Interfaces. In this work, we present a new facial expression recognition system utilizing Enhanced Independent Component Analysis (EICA) for feature extraction and discrete Hidden Markov Model (HMM) for recognition. Our proposed approach for the first time deals with sequential images of emotion-specific facial data analyzed with EICA and recognized with HMM. Performance of our proposed system has been compared to the conventional approaches where Principal and Independent Component Analysis are utilized for feature extraction. Our preliminary results show that our proposed algorithm produces improved recognition rates in comparison to previous works.

  • By extending the Mandelbrot set for the complex polynomial $$M={c\in C\;:\; _{k\rightarrow\infty}^{lim}P_c^k(0)\;{\neq}\;{\infty}$$ we define the degree-n bifurcation set. In this paper, we formulate the boundary equation of a period-2 component on the main component in the degree-9 bifurcation set by parameterizing its image. We establish an algorithm constructing a period-2 component in the degree-9 bifurcation set and the typical implementations show the satisfactory result with Mathematica codes grounded on the analysis.

  • In this paper, we propose novel seabed sediment classification algorithm using feature obtained by continuous wavelet transform (CWT). Contrast to previous researches using direct reflection coefficient of seabed which is function of frequency and is highly influenced by sediment types, we develop an algorithm using both direct reflection signal and backscattering signal. In order to obtain feature vector, we employ CWT of the signal and obtain histograms extracted from local binary patterns of the scalogram. The proposed algorithm also adopts principal component analysis (PCA) to reduce dimension of the feature vector so that it requires low computational cost to classify seabed sediment. For training and classification, we adopts K-means clustering algorithm which can be done with low computational cost and does not require prior information of the sediment. To verify the proposed algorithm, we obtain field data measured at near Jeju island and show that the proposed classification algorithm has reliable discrimination performance by comparing the classification results with actual physical properties of the sediments.

  • 본 논문에서는 다중해상도에서 기존의 그레이 블록 거리(grey block distance; GBD, 이하 GBD)알고리즘과 비교하여 이차원 영상간의 상대적 식별을 더 용이하게 하기 위한 새로운 GBD 알고리즘 방법을 제안한다. 이 제시된 방법은 다중해상도에서 기존의 GBD 알고리즘과 비교해서 영상이 급격히 변화하는 부분의 정보를 잃지 않게 개선할 수 있었다. 모의 실험 예로서 주성분분석(principal component analysis; 이하 PCA)기법과 독립성분분석(independent component analysis; 이하 ICA)기법을 적용하여 유용성과 제안된 방법이 이전의 연구보다 k가 감소할 때 편차는 줄어들어 좋은 영상 분류 특징을 보였으며, ICA가 PCA에 비하여 영상간의 상대적 식별을 용이하게 하여 빨리 수렴이 되는 것을 모의 실험을 통하여 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, we apply several pattern recognition algorithms to emotion recognition system with speech signal and compare the results. Firstly, we need emotional speech databases. Also, speech features for emotion recognition is determined on the database analysis step. Secondly, recognition algorithms are applied to these speech features. The algorithms we try are artificial neural network, Bayesian learning, Principal Component Analysis, LBG algorithm. Thereafter, the performance gap of these methods is presented on the experiment result section. Truly, emotion recognition technique is not mature. That is, the emotion feature selection, relevant classification method selection, all these problems are disputable. So, we wish this paper to be a reference for the disputes.

  • This paper discusses the Bayesian statistical inference. This paper discusses the Bayesian inference, MCMC (Markov Chain Monte Carlo) integration, MCMC method, Metropolis-Hastings algorithm, Gibbs sampling, Maximum likelihood estimation, Expectation Maximization algorithm, missing data processing, and BMA (Bayesian Model Averaging). The Bayesian statistical inference is used to process a large amount of data in the areas of biology, medicine, bioengineering, science and engineering, and general data analysis and processing, and provides the important method to draw the optimal inference result. Lastly, this paper discusses the method of principal component analysis. The PCA method is also used for data analysis and inference.

  • We propose a photomosaic method using PCA(Principal Component Analysis), which uses PCA results to find the most similar candidate fast and correctly. When two images are projected onto a certain principal component, if their coefficients are similar, they are also likely to be similar. Thus our photomosaic method using PCA can take care of both colors and shapes of images. Our method using coefficient comparison is faster than the one using all color comparison and more correct than the one using average comparison. Our hardware accelerated photomosaic algorithm can handle video images in real-time.
