Relining and rebasing are essential for long-term success and oral health in removable prosthodontics. Major features of failures between metal base and relining resins are adhesive failure due to lack of chemical bonding. The purpose of this study was to find a better metal primer and metal surface treatment method that enhance the bonding strength with relining resin materials. The surfaces of ticonium alloys were treated with $25{\mu}m$ sandblasting (Group A), stone wheel(Group B), stone wheel and EZ oxisor(Group C), $75{\mu}m$ sandblasting(Group D) and EZ oxisor application after $75{\mu}m$ sandblasting(Group E). They were subdivided into no primer application (Group I), MR bond application(Group II) and Metafast bonding liner (Group III). Then specimens were completed though being bonded with relining resins. The specimens were stored in $38^{\circ}C$ water for 48 hours and tensile strength was measured using the universal testing machine. The results were as follows, 1. Primer application groups showed higher bond strength than no primer application group(p<0.05). 2. In comparison with primer application groups, MR bond group showed higher bond strength than Meta fast bonding liner application group(p<0.05). 3. In comparison with surface treatment methods, Bond strengths of group A and B were significantly different with group C, D, and E, and group C were significantly different with group D, and E in no primer application group()(0.05). In primer application groups, group A, B, C were significantly different with group D and E(p<0.05). According to results of this study, Metal primer application and metal surface roughening were considered to be advantageous for relining of metal base dentures.
The present study investigated the effectiveness of pretreatment on dentin bonding. The adhesive resin was 5% 4-methacryloyloxyethyl trimellitate anhydride (4-META) in methyl methacrylate (MMA) combined with poly-MMA powder. Polymerization of this resin was initiated by tri-n-butyl borage (TBB). Ground bovine dentin samples were etched with either an aqueous solution of 10% citric (10-0 solution) (Group I) or aqueous solution of 10% citric acid and 3% ferric chloride(10-3 solution) (Group ll ). After etching, the primer (an aqueous solution of 35% hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEM- A) and 5% glutaraldehyde was applied on the differently etched surfaces (Group III , Group IV). The 10-0 treatment showed the lowest tensile bond strength, followed by the 10-3 treatment, primer application after the 10-0 treatment and primer application after the 10-3 treatment. The relationship among the surface morphology after pretreatment, fractured surface morphology and tensile bond strength was examined. It revealed that the surface morphology change by different pretreatment influenced the bond strength and the resulting fractured surface morphology. The correlation of tensile bond strength with the fracture morphology was explained.
The pcf metal primers on the bond strength and durability of 4-META/MMA-TBB resins adhered to an Au-Ag-Pd alloy. For this study, the specimens were divided into 8 groups as follows: Thermocyle 0 : (1) control group : sandblast, (2) Group I : sandblast + Cesead Opaque Primer; (3) Group II : sandblast + Metal Primer; (4) Group III : sandblast + V-Primer; Thermocyle 10,000 (5) control sandblast: (6) Group I : sandblast + Cesead Opaque Primer: (7) Group II : sandblast + Metal Primer; (8) Group III sandblast + V-Primer. The shear bond strength was determined using an Instron were observed with the use of scanning electron microscope. Finally, the strengths of bonded joints were evaluated with regard to their adherence energy using a wedge test. The results obtained were as follows ; (1) The shear bond strength of 4-META/MMA-TBB resin to the Au-Ag-Pd alloy was significantly improved in all the groups treated with the primers (p<0.05). (2) Regardless of the adhesive primers used, a significant difference was observed in the bond strength of the thermocycle 0 groups and 10,000 groups (p<0.05). (3) Both before and after thermocycling, the strongest bond strength between the resin an the alloy was obtained after treatment with a metal primer containing MEPS (p<0.05). (4) In the wedge test, the adherence energies of the control group and Group III decreased more rapidly than those of Group I and II during the 2nd day of storage in water.

Recently, circuit printing technology has been considered as a promising alternative to conventional PCB fabrication, for it can greatly reduce the manufacturing costs. Even though printed circuit has many advantages over typical subtractive technology such as fewer processes, it has some disadvantages. The major problems are low adhesion and poor resolution. Efforts to overcome these problems have been mainly focused on ink developments with a limited success. And surface treatments showed some improvements. Therefore, various plasma treatments and primer coatings on plastic substrates have been tested. Plasma treatments using hydrocarbon gases including methane and propane improved the pattern quality of the inkjet printed circuit, which are further improved upon heating of substrate. On the other hand, there is little effect on the adhesion, which is improved only by a special primer coating. The adhesion of inkjet printed circuit has been increased more than 10 times upon treatment. As for the screen printed circuits, the overall effects are less significant since there is some organic binder in the ink. Nonetheless, the treatment has strong positive effects on pattern quality and adhesion. The adhesion of 1 kgf/cm2, which is comparable with those of the conventional PCB circuits, is possible through primer coating for both screen and inkjet printed circuits. The resulting circuit also showed good thermal, mechanical and electrical properties.
Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic brackets bonded to zirconia surfaces using three different zirconia primers and one silane primer, and subjected to thermocycling. Methods: We designed 10 experimental groups following the surface treatment and thermocycling. The surface was treated with one of the following method: no-primer (NP), Porcelain Conditioner (PC), Z-PRIME Plus (ZP), Monobond Plus (MP) and Zirconia Liner Premium (ZL) (n=20). Then each group was subdivided to non-thermocycled and thermocycled groups (NPT, PC, ZPT, MPT, ZLT) (n=10). Orthodontic brackets were bonded to the specimens using $Transbond^{TM}$ XT Paste and light cured for 15 s at $1,100mW/cm^2$. The SBS was measured at a 1 mm/min crosshead speed. The failure mode was assessed by examination with a stereomicroscope and the amount of bonding resin remaining on the zirconia surface was scored using the modified adhesive remnant index (ARI). Results: The SBS of all experimental groups decreased after thermocycling. Before thermocycling, the SBS was ZL, $ZP{\geq}MP{\geq}PC>NP$ but after thermocycling, the SBS was $ZLT{\geq}MPT{\geq}ZPT>PCT=NPT$ (p > 0.05). For the ARI score, both of the groups lacking primer (NP and NPT) displayed adhesive failure modes, but the groups with zirconia primers (ZP, ZPT, MP, MPT, ZL, and ZLT) were associated with mixed failure modes. Conclusions: Surface treatment with a zirconia primer increases the SBS relative to no-primer or silane primer application between orthodontic brackets and zirconia prostheses.
Purpose: The aim of this research was to evaluate the influence of different surface treatments on the shear bond strength of zirconia ceramic to composite resin. Methods: Seventy two cylinder-shape (diameter: 5 mm; height: 12 mm) blocks of experimental industrially manufactured Y-TZP ceramic were abraded with $125{\mu}m\;Al_2O_3$ particles and randomly divided into 4 groups. All the materials were categorized as group Gc(control group - composite resin veneering on zirconia surface), Gr - composite resin veneering after surface treatment of Rocatec system (3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany) group; Gz - composite resin veneering after surface treatment of Zirconia primer (Z-primer, Bisco, U.S.A) group; Gm - composite resin veneering after surface treatment of zirconia primer (Monobond plus, ivoclar vivadent AG, Liechtenstein) group. Two different zirconia primers and Rocatec system were used to zirconia cylinders (n=16) onto the zirconia surface. Zirconia specimens, polished and roughened, were pretreated and composite bilayer cylinders bonded using conventional adhesive techniques. Results: Shear bond strengths were analyzed using single-factor ANOVA(p<0.05). Bond strength values achieved after airbone particle abrasion and zirconia surface pre-treatments(p<0.05). Conclusion: Shear bond strength tests denmonstrated that zirconia primer is a viable method to improved bond strength between zirconia ceramic core and veneering composites.
This study was carried out to obtain basic information on breeding using PCR-aided RFLP technology which can identify the variation inter- and intra-species of ginseng in the level of DNA. It was intended to investigate banding pattern on psbA and rbeL genes of chloroplast DNA in ginseng after treating with restriction enzymes. To isolate psbA and rbcL genes of chloroplast, both psbA-N, psbA-C primer and rbcL-N, PX-1 primer were used. As a result, 1,008 bp band of psbA gene and 1,336 bp band of rbcL gene were appeared, which was optimal and expected molecular weight. In addition, primers to isolate atpB, rpoB, trnL, and trnF genes were used, resulting in the expected 1366, 900, 1500 and 1008 bp bands. Genes of psbA and rbcL isolated by PCR were cut by restriction enzymes, Sau3A, TaqI, AluI, HaeIII, and RFLP pattern was investigated. KG line and other species of ginseng were cut by TaqI treatment, and bands were located in 800 bp. The treatment treated by AluI also showed the same 800 bp band in KG line and other species. In HaeIII treatment, 500 bp of faint bands were shown in case of KG line, whereas any bands were not observed in other species. All chloroplast genes formed bands by PCR amplification. However, it was not evident to distinguish intra-or inter-species of ginseng after restriction enzyme treatment. Therefore, more restriction enzyme treatment or sequence comparison method should be considered for further experiment.
In this paper, we present surface treatments for achieving bonds between PMMA and PDMS substrates. Silane primer is used for the formation of hydroxyl group on PMMA surfaces. The formed hydroxyl groups enhance the bonding strength of PDMS-PMMA substrates without channel clogging and structure deformation. The bonding strength on the different surface treatments (include oxygen plasma, 3-APTES, and corona discharge) is evaluated to find optimal bonding condition. The maximum bonding strength at the optimal surface treatment is over 300 kPa. The surface treatment using silane primer can be used to the bonding process of Micro-TAS and Lab-on-a-Chip.
PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of metal primers on the bonding of dental alloys and veneer resin. Polyvinylpyrrolidone solution's tarnish effect on bonding strength was also investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Disk-shape metal specimens (diameter 8 mm, thickness 1.5 mm) were made from 3 kinds of alloy (Co-Cr, Ti and Au-Ag-Pd alloy) and divided into 4 groups per each alloy. Half specimens (n=12 per group) in tarnished group were immersed into polyvinylpyrrolidone solution for 24 hours. In Co-Cr and Ti-alloy, Alloy Primer (MDP + VBATDT) and MAC-Bond II (MAC-10) were applied, while Alloy Primer and V-Primer (VBATDT) were applied to Au-Ag-Pd alloys. After surface treatment, veneering composite resin were applied and shear bond strength test were conducted. RESULTS. Alloy Primer showed higher shear bond strength than MAC-Bond II in Co-Cr alloys and Au-Ag-Pd alloy (P<.05). However, in Ti alloy, there was no significant difference between Alloy Primer and MAC-Bond II. Tarnished Co-Cr and Au-Ag-Pd alloy surfaces presented significantly decreased shear bond strength. CONCLUSION. Combined use of MDP and VBATDT were effective in bonding of the resin to Co-Cr and Au-Ag-Pd alloy. Tarnish using polyvinylpyrrolidone solution negatively affected on the bonding of veneer resin to Co-Cr and Au-Ag-Pd alloys.
In this study, the TPU film was laminated on an aramid fabric or circular knits in order to implement an air cushion material that can respond to high impact forces in case of a fall and is easy to expand. To increase the bonding strength between the fabric layer and the film layer, a primer layer was formed in two ways: one for thermally bonding and laminating PET film and two for coating and aging hot melt type PUR adhesive. The tensile strength of the aramid air cushion was 2.5 times higher than that of the circular knits, but the tensile elongation of the aramid air cushion was very low compared to that of the circular knits. The tear strength of the aramid air cushion was about twice or more superior to that of the circular knits, the primer treatment method was good at A, and the peel strength was excellent at method A. The aramid air cushion was the lightest in weight. Summarizing the above results, it was best to combine the air cushion material with aramid woven fabric and primer treatment method A to cope with the high impact force applied when falling.
