Effect of the Diisocyanate Type on the Hydrolysis Behavior of Polyurethane

  • The effect of diisocyanate type on the decomposition temperature of polyurethane (PU) hydrolysis was investigated in a subcritical water medium up to 250℃. PU samples were prepared using different types of diisocyanate: two aromatic diisocyanates (4,4'-methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and methyl phenylene diisocyanate (TDI)), one unbranched aliphatic diisocyanate (hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI)), and two cyclic aliphatic diisocyanates (4,4'-methylene dicyclohexyl diisocyanate (H12MDI) and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI)). The pressure had no effect on hydrolysis in the range of 70-250 bar. The decomposition temperature of the PU samples increased in the following order: TDI-PU (199℃) < H12MDI ≈ IPDI ≈ HDI (218-220℃) < MDI-PU (237℃). This order of increase in temperature is related to the electron-donating ability of the group to connected to the nitrogen of the urethane unit. When the temperature of the (PU + water) mixture reached the specific decomposition temperature, the PU samples hydrolyzed completely within 5 min into primary amine and 1,4-butanediol. The hydrolysis products from MDI-PU and H12MDI-PU were separated into a liquid phase rich in (BD + water) and a solid low phase rich in amine, whereas the products from TDI-, IPDI-, and HDI-PU existed in a single aqueous phase.

  • Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets have been utilized on various industrial fields such as electric vehicles, generator, robots with actuator, etc, due to their outstanding magnetic properties even 10 times better than conventional magnets. Recently, there are many researches that report magnetic properties improved by controlling microstructure through adjusting alloying elements or conducting various processing. Especially, post-sintering annealing (PSA) can significantly improve the coercivity by modifying the distribution and morphology of Nd-rich phase which formed at grain boundaries. In this study, Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets were subjected to primary heat treatment followed by secondary heat treatment at 460℃, 500℃, and 540℃ to investigate the changes in microstructure and magnetic properties with the secondary heat treatment temperature. EBSD analysis was conducted to compare anisotropic characteristics. Through the SEM and TEM observation for analyzing the morphology and distribution of Nd-rich phase, we investigated the relationship between microstructure and magnetic properties of sintered Nd-Fe-B magnets.

BX ANDROMEDAE의 시선속도 연구 (A STUDY OF THE RADIAL VELOCITY OF BX ANDROMEDAE)

  • 한국천문연구원 보현산 천문대(Bohyunsan Optical Astronomical Observatory, BOAO)의 BOES(Bohyunsan Optical Echelle Spectrograph)를 이용하여 2003년 2월 26-27일 이틀간에 걸쳐 BX And의 고분산 관측을 수행하였다. 이 관측을 통하여 얻은 스펙트럼은 총 38개로 위상 $0.1{\sim}0.3$에 이르는 구간을 제외하고는 전위상에 걸쳐 골고루 관측이 이루어졌다. 시선속도를 구하기 위하여 BF(Broadening Function)와 CCF(Cross-Correlation Function)를 이용한 방법 이 모두 사용되었다. CCF를 이용하였을 때는 주성의 시선속도만을 얻은 반면, BF인 경우, 주성과 반성의 시선속도 모두를 잘 결정할 수 있었다. 새로운 시선속도곡선으로부터 주성과 반성의 최대 시선속도를 각각 $K_1=96.1km/s$$K_2=196.6km/s$으로 얻었으며, 이를 Bell et al.(1990)의 측광해와 결합하여 BX And의 절대 물리량을 새롭게 결정하였다.

  • In this study, the influence of impurity element Ca, P on solidification behavior and morphology of eutectic silicon was examined by observation of microstructure and by DSC analysis. In the case of 1.3 ppm P, eutectic Si was fine and fibrous when the added amount of Ca was 500 ppm, However, the modification of eutectic Si was depressed by formation of polygonal Ca-Si compounds when the addition amount of Ca was greater than 1000 ppm. The addition of Ca 500 ppm depressed the primary and eutectic temperature. The primary and eutectic temperature were depressed with Ca 500 ppm but rather ascended when the addition amount of Ca was more than 1000 ppm. When the content of P was 17.5 ppm, eutectic Si had modified morphology with Ca addition. DAS was increased, the primary temperature was ascended and eutectic temperature was depressed with Ca added. Eutectic Si appeared as coarse flake phase and DAS was decreased with the increase of P content. The existence of P in the melt depressed the primary temperature and ascended eutectic temperature.

Evaluating the Headspace Volatolome, Primary Metabolites, and Aroma Characteristics of Koji Fermented with Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and Aspergillus oryzae

  • Production of good Koji primarily depends upon the selection of substrate materials and fermentative microflora, which together influence the characteristic flavor and aroma. Herein, we performed comparative metabolomic analyses of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and primary metabolites for Koji samples fermented individually with Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and Aspergillus oryzae. The VOCs and primary metabolites were analyzed using headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) followed by gas chromatography time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-TOF-MS). In particular, alcohols, ketones, and furans were mainly detected in Bacillus-fermented Koji (Bacillus Koji, BK), potentially due to the increased levels of lipid oxidation. A cheesy and rancid flavor was characteristic of Bacillus Koji, which is attributable to high content of typical 'off-flavor' compounds. Furthermore, the umami taste engendered by 2-methoxyphenol, (E,E)-2,4-decadienal, and glutamic acid was primarily detected in Bacillus Koji. Alternatively, malty flavor compounds (2-methylpropanal, 2-methylbutanal, 3-methylbutanal) and sweet flavor compounds (monosaccharides and maltol) were relatively abundant in Aspergillus-fermented Koji (Aspergillus Koji, AK). Hence, we argue that the VOC profile of Koji is largely determined by the rational choice of inocula, which modifies the primary metabolomes in Koji substrates, potentially shaping its volatolome as well as the aroma characteristics.

황-요오드 열화학 수소 제조 공정에서 분젠 반응과 상 분리 비고 (The Comparison of Bunsen Reaction With Phase Separation in Sulfur-lodine Thermochemical Hydrogen Production Process)

  • A Bunsen reaction section is a primary stage of Sulfur-iodine thermochemical hydrogen production cycle. This section is important, because it decides the efficiency of next stages. In order to produce hydrogen very efficiently, the characteristics of Bunsen reaction were investigated via two experimental methods. The one is a phase separation of $H_2SO_4-HI-H_2O-I_2$ mixture system, and the other is a direct Bunsen reaction. The characteristics of each method were investigated and compared. As the result of this study, the amount of HI and $I_2$ in $H_2SO_4$ phase via Bunsen reaction was more decreased than that via $H_2SO_4-HI-H_2O-I_2$ mixture system with increasing $I_2$ concentration. However, the amount of $H_2SO_4$ in $HI_x$ phase via Bunsen reaction was remarkably increased with increasing $I_2$ concentration, while that via $H_2SO_4-HI-H_2O-I_2$ mixture system was decreased. On the other hand, the range of initial composition which is able to separate into two liquid phases without $I_2$ solidification was almost alike.

외상성 횡경막 허니아 (Traumatic Diaphragmatic Hernia)

  • The records of 10 patients with traumatic diaphragmatic hernia seen from November 1977 through July 1987 were reviewed. All the patients had a transdiaphragmatic evisceration of abdominal contents into the thorax. We treated 7 male and 3 female patients ranging in age from 3 to 62 years. In 8 patients, diaphragmatic hernia followed blunt trauma and in 2 patients, stab wounds to the chest. The herniation occurred on the right side in 3 patients and on the left side in 7. All the patients sustained additional injuries: rib fractures [7 patients], additional limb, pelvic and vertebral fractures [6], closed head injury [2], lung laceration [1], liver laceration [1], renal contusion [1], ureteral rupture [1], and splenic rupture [1]. Organs herniated through the diaphragmatic rent included the omentum [6 patients], stomach [4], liver [4], colon [3], small intestine [1], and spleen [1]. For right-sided injuries, the liver was herniated in all 3 patients and the colon, in 1. in the initial or latent phase, dyspnea, diminished breath sounds, bowel sounds in the chest were noted in 4 patients, and in the obstructive phase, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain were found in all 3 patients. Two patients had a diagnostic chest radiograph with findings of bowel gas patterns, and an additional 8 had abnormal but nondiagnostic studies. Hemothorax, pleural effusion or abnormal diaphragmatic contour were common abnormal findings. Three patients were operated on during the initial or acute phase [immediately after injury], 4 patients were operated on during the latent or intermediate phase [3 to 210 days], and 3 patients were operated on during the obstructive phase [10 to 290 days]. Six patients underwent thoracotomy, 2 required thoracoabdominal incision, and 2 had combined thoracotomy and laparotomy. Primary suture was used to repair the diaphragmatic hernia in 9 cases. One patient required plastic repair by a Teflon felt. Empyema was the main complication in 2 patients. In 1 patient, the empyema was treated by closed thoracostomy and in 1, by decortication and open drainage. There were no deaths.

각시붕어, Rhodeus uyekii의 생식주기 (Reproductive Cycle of the Spring-Spawning Bitterling, Rhodeus uyekii(Pisces : Cyprinidae))

  • 1991년 8월부터 1993년 7월까지 경상남도 김해군 상동면 매리마을의 낙동강 지류에서 채집된 한국 특산어인 각시붕어, Rhodeus uyekii를 대상으로 생식생태를 파악하기 위하여 연간 생식소숙도지수(GSI)와 난경조성, 산란관 길이 변화를 조사하였고, 이들 생식소 발달과정을 광학현미경적 방법에 의해 조사하였다. GSI는 수온이 상승하기 시작하는 2월부터 증가하기 시작하여 5월에 연중 최대값을 나타내고, 7월부터 하강하여 8월에는 연중 최저값을 나타내었다. 이후 9월부터 11월까지 서서히 증가하다가 12월에는 일시적으로 증가를 멈추고 11월과 비슷한 수준을 유지하였다. 생식연주기는 7~8월의 퇴화 및 휴지기, 9~11월의 1차 성장기, 12월의 정체기, 1,2월의 2차 성장 및 성숙기, 3~6월의 완숙 및 산란기 등 연속적인 주기로 구분할 수 있었으며, 산란성기는 4월하순에서 5월이었다.

왜몰개, Aphyocypris chinensis의 생식주기 (Reproductive Cycle of the Venus Fish, Aphycypris chinensis)

  • 1997년 3월부터 1998년 3월까지 충청남도 부여군 세도면 모세올 지역의 농수로에서 채집한 왜몰개, Aphyocypris chinensis를 대상으로 생식생태를 조사하기 위하여 연간 생식소숙도지수(GSI), 간숙도지수(HSI), 난경조성과 생식소 발달과정 및 다른 번식특성들을 조사하였다. GSI 변화, 생식소의 발달과정 및 난경조성에 대한 분석결과, 1${\sim}$2월은 정체기, 3${\sim}$5월은 2차 성장기 및 성숙기, 6월에서 7월 사이는 완숙 및 산란기, 8${\sim}$9월은 퇴화 및 휴지기, 10${\sim}$12월은 1차 성장기로 나타낼 수 있었다. HSI는 연간 2개의 피크를 나타냈으며 GSI의 변화와는 역상관 관계를 보였다. 조사지점에서의 왜몰개 암컷의 포란수는 체중과 1차 함수적으로 증가하였으며 (r$^{2}$ =0.91, n = 347), 성비는 1.4 : 1 (암컷 : 수컷) 이었다. 생식가능한 최소 체장(fork length) 범위는 암컷에서는 38 mm, 수컷에서는 33mm로 조사되었다.

정상 성인에서 경두개 직류 전류자극과 기능적 전기자극에 의한 대뇌피질의 활성화: 사례연구 (Cortical Activation by Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation and Functional Electrical Stimulation in Normal Subjects: 2 Case Studies)

  • Purpose: Recently, many studies have demonstrated that application of external stimulation can modulate cortical excitability of the human brain. We attempted to observe cortical excitability using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during the application of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) or functional electrical stimulation (FES). Methods: We recruited two healthy subjects without a history of neurological or psychiatric problems. fMRI scanning was done during? each constant anodal tDCS and FES session, and each session was repeated three times. The tDCS session consisted of three successive phases (resting phase: 60sec dummy cycle: 10sec tDCS phase: 60sec). The FES session involved stimulation of wrist extensor muscles over two successive phase (resting phase: 15sec FES phase: 15sec). Results: The average map of the tDCS and FES analyses showed that the primary sensory-motor cortex area was activated in all subjects. Conclusion: Our findings show that cortical activation can be induced by constant anodal tDCS and FES. They suggest that the above stimuli have the potential for facilitating brain plasticity and modulating neural excitability if applied as specific therapeutic interventions for brain injured patients.
