A cross sectional study was performed to evaluate the neurobehavioral effects of chronic exposure of complex organic solvents, using NCTB(Neurobehavioral Core Test Battery) recommended by WHO(World Health Organization). Forty female shoe factory workers and twenty-two controls matched with age were participated. The tests were performed in the morning before start of work, to exclude the effects of acute exposure. Workers were exposed mainly to toluene, methyl ethyl ketone, n-hexane, cyclo-hexane, dichloroethylene, trichloroethylene, benzene, xylenes etc. The ranges of present solvent exposure of hygienic effect were $0.46\sim0.71$ in the process using adhesives indirectly, and $1.83\sim2.39$ in the process using it directly. We reclassified the subjects, according to cumulative exposure. It showed significantly poorer performances in high exposed group on Santa Ana Dexterity and Benton Visual Retention, compared with control group. After controlling confounder, the significances were still remained. But, further cohort studies, having the information of personal exposure dose from entering a factory, are required to clarify the effects of chronic exposure of complex organic solvents in relation to dose and duration of exposure.
A study on the antitoxic effects of Semen Mungo extracts against Cadmium Chloride Toxicity in Rats This study was performed to find out the effect of Semen mungo against Cadmium toxicity. The experimental rats were divided into 5 groups such as control group, Cadmium alone treatment group, three simultaneous treatment groups of semen mungo and cadmium. Rats were given pellets administration with three dosage of semen mungo glabrae such as 4mg/kg body weight for four weeks. The results were summarized as follows on: ' 1. The simultaneously administration of semen mungo and cadmium significantly more decreased cadmium concentration in liver and kidney tissues compared to the administration of cadmium alone.(p<0.05) 2. The simultaneously administration of semen mungo and cadmium significantly more decreased metallothionein concentration in liver and kidney tissues compared to administration of cadmium alone(p<0.05) 3. When liver and kidney tissues were observed with optical microscope obvious changes were visible in those tissues.1
This study aims to examine the effects of users' perceptions of COVID-19 risk on their seeking and processing of relevant information as COVID-19 emerges and spreads worldwide in 2019. We apply the risk information seeking and processing model (RISP Model) to verify whether users' COVID-19 related information seeking and processing behaviors have a positive effect on their preventive and information sharing behaviors. To achieve this research goal, an online survey was conducted with about 400 of social media users. The users' perceptions of risk for COVID-19 increased their perceived insufficiency of COVID-19 information. In addition, the perceived insufficiency of users' information formed a positive relationship with seeking and searching of information behaviors. The processing of COVID-19 related information has increased related preventive behaviors and sharing of information through social media. While searching for information related to COVID-19 prompted personal information sharing behaviors, it did not significantly affect preventive behaviors. Accordingly, in order to promote COVID-19 preventive behaviors as well as overall user health-related behaviors it can be inferred that additional measures are needed in addition to pursuing relevant information.
The effects of multiple exposures to pesticides on plasma cholinesterase(ChE) activities and urinary p-nitrophenol excretion were evaluated in rats. Rats were received single dose i.p. with $LD_{50}/100(mg/kg)$ of organophosphorous(OP), organophosphorous-organochroline(OP-OC), organophosphorous-carbamate(OP-CAB), organophosphorous-organoarsenate(OP-OA) pesticides for 4 consecutive days. In repeated administration of pesticides, plasma ChE activities were decreased, but urinary p-nitrophenol were increased after the first injection and then decreased gradually The recovery rates of ChE activities and p-nitrophenol excretion at 48 hours after the fourth Injection were delayed in comparision with the baseline value of 24 hours before the first injection. Statistical significances were found between OP and other groups except OP-OA group after the second injection in plasma ChE activities, but in urinary p-nitrophenol excretion there was statistical significance only between OP and OP-CAB.
We performed case-control studies for the 1,138 Korean adult men. According to the results of UGIS, we classified the gastritis into the erosive gastritis, superficial gastritis, and hypertrophic gastritis. And then, we selected controls among non-gastritis group after matching. Alcohol intake and smoking history was obtained by questionnaire. And we observed the effects of alcohol intake and smoking to the each gastritis. The results obtained were as follows : 1. Smokers had a risk of getting erosive gastritis more than twice(2.6) than non-smokers and there was dose-response relationships between smoking and erosive gastritis. Alcohol intake, however, had no significant relation with the erosive gastritis. 2. Both smoking and alcohol intake had no significant relations with superficial gastritis. 3. Smoking had no significant relation with hypertrophic gastritis, but dividing between those who drank more than 100gm of alcohol a week and those who drank less, we obtained the odds ratio of 3.4 suggesting that there existed a significant relation between moderate or excessive alcohol intake and hypertrophic gastritis. 4. Among the gastritis patients, those who had erosive gastritis smoked most heavily, and those who had hypertrophic gastritis drank most excessively.
This paper discusses the research of preventive medicine in terms of philosophy and history, publication and people, branch research, applied research, Gi-gong, conduction exercise and so on. Currently, fields of philosophy, history, physical education and Korean Medicine are actively participating in the research on preventive medicine. From the philosophical view, theoretical aspects of preventive medicine are closely examined. From the historical view, the historical context is of focus. From the physical education viewpoint, Gi-gong, gymnastics and physical education philosophy are studied. In the field of Korean medicine where practicality is most important, plans to apply preventive medicine to life are creating new possibilities for research on preventive medicine. In this time where social interest on health is at peak, combined research of basic theory and application will have positive effects on the development of preventive medicine.
Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the mortality of heart disease (HD), ischemic heart disease (IHD), and cerebrovascular disease (CeVD) through an age-period-cohort (APC) analysis. Methods: We used data on mortality due to cardiovascular disease from 1995 to 2018 in Japan, as determined by Vital Statistics. Age groups from 0 years to 99 years were defined by 5-year increments, and cohorts were defined for each age group of each year with a 1-year shift. We used Bayesian APC analysis to decompose the changes in the diseases' mortality rates into age, period, and cohort effects. Results: The period effects for all diseases decreased during the analyzed periods for both men and women. The cohort effects for men increased substantially in cohorts born from around 1940 to the 1970s for all types of cardiovascular diseases. The cohort effects of HD decreased in the cohorts born in the 1970s or later for both men and women. Regarding IHD and CeVD, either a non-increase or decrease of cohort effects was confirmed for cohorts born in the 1970s or later for men, but the effects for women showed a continuously increasing trend in the cohorts born in the 1960s or later. Conclusions: The cohort effects for IHD and CeVD showed increasing trends in younger generations of women. This suggests that preventive approaches against cardiovascular diseases are needed, particularly for women.
