  • The diffusion coefficient of C.I. Disperse Red 4 in the dyeing of carrier-pretreated poly (ethylene terephthalate) film was Investigated by Sekido's film-rolled method. From the result it was shown that the diffusion coefficient increases exponentially with the content-ration of carrier in the film, and, for the films containing same concentration of carrier, the carrier effect was enhanced with the molar volume of the carriers. The greater carrier effect was accompanied by the decrease in diffusion activation energy and entropy, which shows that the carrier with larger molar volume plasticizes PET film to more extent.

  • The effect of the panaquilon (partial component of panax ginseng), on the isolated pregnant and nonpregnant uterus strip was observed. The movement of the strip of the rabbit uterus suspended in Locke's solution was refolded by the Magnus method. 1. The tonus of the pregnant uterus was slightly increased and returned the normal movement after a short period (approximately 60 seconds) in concentration of $10^{-6}$ of panaquilon. 2. The tonus and motility of panaquilon was slightly synergistic when pretreated with syntocinon and barium chloride.

  • A method is described for the determination of the Po nuclides in a water sample. After the Po nuclides were purified from interfering elements in a water sample using a manganese dioxide precipitation followed by a solvent extraction method, the Po nuclides were deposited onto the silver plate. A large volume of the water sample was effectively pretreated with manganese dioxide precipitation method. To determine the optimum conditions for plating Po, the effects of the pH, volume, temperature and time on the Po deposition were investigated in hydrochloric acid solution. The investigated determination method of Po nuclides with solvent extraction was applied to a tap water sample.

  • in order to overcome disadvantage of the conventional two bath dyeing method of polyester/cotton blends, it had prompted significant effort to the development of the one bath dyeing method which can accomplish sayings in time, energy and water usage. Also, when dyeing polyester/cotton blends by the one bath dyeing method, the high salt concentrations needed for the reactive dye can cause particles of disperse dye, used for the polyester component, to aggregate. A supplementary problem that can occasionally be happened is the change of hue that occurs on dyed polyester in an alkaline dyebath. To improve dyeing property of polyester/cotton blends, cotton component was pretreated with epichlolohydrine-trimethylamine hydrochloride in aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide to produce a cationized cotton that can be dyed under neutral conditions with reactive dye in a non-electrolytic or il little electrolytic dyebath. The one bath dyeing method of polyester/cationized cotton blends with disperse dye/reactive dye mixture resulted in a satisfactory dyeing property and color yield in comparison with ordinary two bath dyeing method.

  • The conventional dyeing of wool/cotton blends involves a two bath two step method, i.e., after dyeing of the wool component with acid dyes in an acidic dyebath at $100^\circ{C}$, the dyeing of the cotton component with reactive dyes in an alkaline dyebath is performed. In order to overcome the disadvantage of the conventional two bath two step dyeing method of wool/cotton blends, it had prompted significant effort to the development of the one bath dyeing method which can accomplish savings in time, energy and water usage. To improve dyeing property of wool/cotton blends, cotton component was pretreated with cationizing agent containing chlorohydrine group in aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. This study was carried out to investigate dyeing possibilities of wool/cationized cotton blends with acid dye/reactive dye by one bath two step method.

  • In order to overcome the disadvantage of the conventional two bath dyeing method of wool/cotton blends, it had prompted significant effort to the development of the one bath dyeing method which can accomplish savings in energy, water usage and time. To improve the dyeability of cotton toward direct dyes in a non-electrolytic and acidic dyebath, cotton component was pretreated with cationizing agent containing chlorohydrine group in aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. This study was carried out to investigate almost equal color strength between wool component and cationized cotton component when wool/cationized cotton blends was dyed with acid dye/direct dye by the one bath two step method in a non-electrolytic and acidic dyebath.

  • This study aimed to find an effective preservation method of lotus leaves for the preparation of lotus-leaf Yakju throughout the year. The characteristics of Yakju containing lotus leaves pretreated by blanching, steaming, roasting, and drying were investigated in this study. The chemical properties of Yakju (pH, amino acidity, alcohol content, and volatile acid content) were significantly different for all treatments, except for the total acid content. The polyphenol content ranging from 315.89 to 462.63 ppm (p<0.05) was significantly different depending on pretreatment method L color value for Yakju was not significantly different all treatments, while a value was significantly different in Yakju containing frozen stored leaves after pretreatment. The b value was lowest for the blanching treatment, and was significantly different for all treatments. Among the organic acids present in Yakju, the oxalic, citric, and malic acid contents were significantly different for all treatments. In sensory evaluation, lotus-leaf Yakjus containing fresh leaves and dried leaves were preferred to the others in color and flavor among Yakjus prepared with lotus leaves before cold storage. However, among the Yakjus prepared with lotus leaves after cold storage, that containing blanched leaves was preferred to the others in terms of flavor, taste, and overall acceptability.

  • Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common rheumatic pathology. One of the major objectives of OA research is the development of early diagnostic strategies such as those using proteomic technology. Synovial fluid (SF) in OA patients is a potential source of biomarkers for OA. The efficient and reliable preparation of SF proteomes is a critical step towards biomarker discovery. In this study, we have optimized a pretreatment method for twodimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE) separation of the SF proteome, by enriching low-abundance proteins and simultaneously removing hyaluronic acid, albumin, and IgG. SF samples pretreated using this optimized method were then evaluated by 1DE and 2DE separation followed by immunodetection of cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP), a known OA biomarker, and by the identification of 3 proteins (apolipoprotein, haptoglobin precursor, and fibrinogen D fragment) that are related to joint diseases.

  • This paper reports an improved headspace gas chromatographic method for the determination of carboxyl group content in wood fibers. Pretreatment of wood fibers was applied using dilute HCl to convert carboxyl groups to carboxylic acid groups and then using deionized water to wash fiber samples thoroughly. The samples were finally air dried. Sodium bicarbonate solution was used to react with carboxylic acid groups of the pretreated fibers in a closed testing vial to release carbon dioxide. The content of carboxyl groups in fibers was accurately quantified by determining the amount of carbon dioxide released by a headspace gas chromatograph equipped with a thermal conductivity detector. The modified process for fiber sample pretreatment increased the reliability and accuracy in measuring carboxylic acid groups. The present method is simple, accurate.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the preparation of the carboxymethylcellulose from recycled fiber, especially on the reactivity of carboxymethylation. Using a deinked pulp and a dissolving pulp. Green's method is adapted to the carboxymethylation. We conformed that the carboxymethyl group is led for recycled fiber by FT-IR analysis. The recycled fiber is more reactive than the dissolving pulp because the recycled fiber had been defiberated and pretreated with alkali. It suggests that deinking process is in accordance with pretreatment of CMC process. Therefore, it may be possible to prepare CMC from the recylced fiber economically.
