The SCP girder, which compensates for the shortcomings of conventional girders through the effective composition of concrete, steel, and PS tendon, has recently been developed and applied on real bridges. Developed as a simple-support type, it may be applied on simple-support and continuous bridges by connecting the simple-support SCP girders to the interior supports. A continuous SCP girder, which has structural and cost advantages over the simple-support SCP girder, is proposed in this study. Likewise proposed herein is a new method of constructing a continuous SCP girder, using segments of the girder sequentially. A two-span, half-scale specimen was designed and constructed to verify the propriety of the continuous SCP girder bridge. A static load test was also carried out, using this specimen, to examine the behavior of the continuous SCP girder. Based on the results of the study, it is expected that the continuous bridge that uses the continuous SCP girder can guarantee the structural safety of the simple-support SCP girder.
Nearly 400 composite railway bridge decks of a new kind belonging to the trough type with U-shaped cross section have been constructed in Belgium over the last fifteen years. The construction of these bridge decks is rather complex with the preflexion of precambered steel girders, the prestressing of a concrete slab and the addition of a 2nd phase concrete. Until now, they have been designed with a classical computation method using a pseudo-elastic analysis with modular ratios. Globally, they perform according to the expectations but variability has been observed between the measured and the computed camber of these bridge decks just after the transfer of prestressing and also at long-term. A statistical analysis of the variability of the relative difference between the measured camber and the computed camber is made for a sample of 36 bridge decks using no less than 10 variables. The most significant variables to explain this variability at prestressing are the ratio between the maximum tensile stress reached in the steel girders during the preflexion and the yield strength and the type of steel girder. For the same sample, the long-term camber under permanent loading is computed by two methods and compared with measurements taken one or two years after the construction. The camber computed by the step-by-step method shows a better agreement with the measured camber than the camber computed by the classical method. The purpose of the paper is to report on the statistical analysis which was used to determine the most significant parameters to consider in the modeling in order to improve the prediction of the behaviour of these composite railway bridge decks.

Conventional PSC I type girders were adversely affected by the self - weight of concrete, anchorage, prestressing. In order to overcome this problem, PSC girder was constructed with a hollow in the web and developed a hollow web PSC type I girder which is applicable to 50 - 70m span by multistage stressing and then actually long span hollow web PSC girder bridge was constructed. In this study, the results of Static Load Test and the Finite Element Analysis of the hollow web PSC I girder bridges were compared and analyzed, and the Load Carrying Capacity and safety of PSC girder bridges were evaluated. The Static Load Test and the numerical analysis results of this bridge showed similar tendency and the behavior of the hollow web PSC I girder was well simulated. The entire girders of the bridges had sufficient Load Carrying Capacity under the live load design condition and the bridges satisfied the safety and confirmed the appropriateness of the construction.

Because of their high out-of-plane and in-planes strength, trapezoidally corrugated plates have been increasingly used in buildings and bridges. If corrugated plates are used as the web of plate girders or prestressed concrete box girders, the flanges take most of the bending stress. On the other hand, the corrugated plate web supports shear stress due to the accordion effect. The corrugated plate web could fail by three different buckling modes: global, local, or interactive shear buckling. To determine the effects of geometric parameters on the buckling capacity of the corrugated plates, a parametric study was performed using finite dement method. The analysis results showed that the buckling capacity and modes depend on individual parameters as well as combinations of parameters.

Concrete bridge constructed in metropolitan cities has different superstructure members like slabs and girders, and their carbonation depths vary with different design strengths and local environmental conditions. In this paper, 54 concrete cores were obtained from prestressed concrete girders and the related tests were performed for compressive strength and carbonation depth measurement. Referred to the specified compressive strength of 24MPa for slab and 35MPa for I-type girder, the strengths from cores were evaluated to 82% and 73% of design grade, respectively. For carbonation depth, the slab member showed 30.6mm of average with 32.9% of COV(Coefficient of Variation) and I-type girder showed 16.7~17.0mm with 22.8~33.6 of COV. The I-type girder has much lower carbonation depth and COV compared to slab member, however it has higher COV than column structures.

Prefab members have attracted attention because they can be mass-produced in factories through smart construction technology. For prefab prestressed concrete girders, it is important to manage the shapes of the girders properly from production to the pre-installation stage for consistency with the prefab floor plate during the erection process. This paper presents a camber reconstruction method using collocated strain measurements from the top and bottom of the prefab girder. In particular, the camber reconstruction method is applied to measured strain data in which the time-dependent behavior of concrete is considered after the introduction of prestress. Through Monte Carlo numerical simulations, the statistical accuracy of the reconstructed camber for a limited number of sensors, measurement errors, and nonlinear time-dependent behaviors are analyzed and validated.
Prestressed composite girder with concrete infilled steel tubes(PSC-CFT girder) is new type of bridge girder which enhances the resisting capacities due to the double composite action of PSC composite girder and concrete infilled tube. The flexural behaviors of PSC-CFT girder in the negative moment regions are investigated based on the experimental observations recently performed on two of 3.6m long specimens. The mechanical and structural roles and failure mechanism of the composite action are discussed through comparing the test results with those numerically predicted by the three methods of one and three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis, and section analysis method.
Prestressed composite girder with concrete infilled steel tubes(PSC-CFT girder) is new type of bridge girder which enhances the resisting capacities due to the double composite action of PSC composite girder and concrete infilled tube. The flexural behaviors of PSC-CFT girder in the positive moment regions are investigated based on the experimental observations recently performed on two of 4.4m long specimens. Prestressed concrete girder bridge has been one of the most widely used bridges in the world because of its excellent construction feasibility, economic efficiency, serviceability, and safety. In certain situations, the prestressing tendon is supposed to be bent by the construction error and the radius of curvature at the continuous joint of PSC girders, and this leads to the loss of prestressing force. However, this kind of prestress loss is not considered in the design and construction processes. This study proves that the prestress loss occurs at the continuous joint due to the local bending of tendon by the construction error or the radius of curvature. Also, a method that can reduce this type of prestress loss is proposed, and proved by the experiment. The result shows that maximum 10% of prestress loss occurs at the continuous joint and the proposed block-out method can reduce the prestress loss ratio by maximum 5%, approximately. This means that the block-out method can enhance the prestressing efficiency of continuous PSC girder bridges.

Hybrid Truss Bridge (HTB) uses steel truss webs instead of concrete webs in prestressed box girder bridges, which is becoming popular due to its structural benefits such as relatively light self-weight and good aesthetics appearance. Since the core technology of this bridge is the connection system between concrete slabs and steel truss members, several connection systems were proposed and experimentally evaluated. Also, the selected joint system was applied to the real bride design and construction. The research was performed on the connection system, since it can affect the global behavior of this bridge such as flexural and fatigue behaviors as well as the local behavior around the connection region. The evaluation study showed that HTB applied to a curved bridge or an eccentrically loaded bridge had a weak torsional capacity compared to an ordinary PSC box girder bridge due to the open cross-sectional characteristic of HTB. Therefore, three types of girders with different joint system between truss web member and concrete slab were tested for their torsional capacity. In this study, the three different types of HTB girders under torsional loading were simulated using FEM analysis to investigate the torsional behavior of HTB girders more in detail. The results are discussed in detail in the paper.
