This work was designed to determine the optimum roasting conditions with application of a pressure roaster for improving the roasting process of the Polygonatum sibiricum tea which has been roasting with a traditional method. Soluble solid content of the Polygonatum cibiricum tea was 63.16% in the tea roasted at 0.85kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$(roasting pressure) and 13.9min(roasting time) which were maximum point by the ridge analysis. The optimum conditions predicted for each corresponding sensory properties of the Polygonatum cibirium tea were 0.87kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 9.2min in color, 0.89kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 9.7min in sweet 0.72kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 5.4min in burnt flavor, 0.89kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 9.9min in appetizing flavor, 0.87kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 9.3min in aftertaste, 0.89kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 10.0min in aroma, and 0.88kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 9.6min in overall acceptability of the tea. The optimum conditions based on the soluble solid content and sensory properties of the Polygonatum cibiricum tea, were 0.83~0.88kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 9.7~10.4min.
This study was conducted to fabrication pig iron containing copper and to reduce sulfur content pig iron. Roasting test was conducted for 1 ~ 9 hours at each temperature of $500^{\circ}C$, $700^{\circ}C$, and $900^{\circ}C$. In addition, the effect of oxygen partial pressure with 0.5, 0.8, and 1 atm was carried out for 30 minutes at $900^{\circ}C$. It was found that there is no effect to reduce sulfure in pig iron through roasting and oxygen partial pressures. The addition of CaO with 15 wt.% was found to reduce sulfur content up to 0.001 wt.%. The suitable temperature and reactive time for carbothermic reduction were $1600^{\circ}C$ and 30 minutes which shows the highest recovery rate of iron from the copper slag.

Sesame has been consumed for centuries as flavoring ingredient in eastern Asian countries, especially Korea. Sesame seeds have been used as health food for traditional medicine to prevent disease in Asian countries for several thousand years. Sesame seed has higher oil content (around 50%) than most of the known oilseeds. Sesame oil is rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Extraction of sesame has developed significantly over the years. The mechanical method was an early means of separation which was physical pressure to squeeze the oil out. Nowadays, solvent extraction becomes the commonly used commercial technique to recover oil from oilseeds. In this study, we investigated extraction efficiency and quality of oil affected by cultivars and extraction methods of sesame seed. Different variables were investigated; roasting temperature ($170{\sim}220^{\circ}C$), extraction methods (solvent and physical pressure), forced ventilation system and cultivars. The Contents of B(a)P in sesame oil after roasting at $170{\sim}220^{\circ}C$ were 0.30~2.53 ppm. When we introduced forced ventilation system during roasting, B(a)P Contents were decreased up to 36%. The Oil extraction efficiency on sesame seed was statistically depending on the cultivars and extraction methods. The oil extraction yields of solvent and physical pressure extraction were 56.3% and 44.6%, respectively. Many of sesame cultivars and genetic resources are linolenic acid content of less than 0.5%. The results supported that we have developed a safe and high quality sesame oil processing methods for small and medium-sized companies.
A comparative study of pretreatment and extraction methods was conducted to investigate their effects on nutritional and bioactive components during hot-water extraction of Acanthopanax senticosus. The herb samples, ground and sifted $(8\~20\;mesh)$ were pretreated with ultrasound (20 kHz), microwave (2,450 MHz) or roasting $(180^{\circ}C)$ for 10 min, and then extracted by a boiling $(180^{\circ}C)$ under atmospheric pressure or a pressured boiling $(121^{\circ}C)$ for 2 hr. In general, the pretreatments improved the extraction efficiency and the DPPH radical scavenging activity of extract. Particularly, the extraction yields of soluble solids, total sugar and phenolic compounds were increased in microwaving methods, and the protein yield and the radical scavenging activity were higher in roosting pretreatment. Yields of soluble solids, total sugar, protein and phenolic compouds in pressured extraction were higher than those in nonpressured extraction. These results suggested that pretreatment including microwave radiation, sonication and roasting and pressured extraction can be utilized for improving the extraction efficiency of A. senticosus.
Effects of heating conditions and seed roasting on the lipid oxidation and antioxidants of perilla seeds were studied. Perilla seeds, that were unroasted or roasted at $180^{\circ}C$ for 20 min, were ground and heated over steam at $100^{\circ}C/1$ atm or at $135^{\circ}C/2$ atm. Lipid oxidation was evaluated by peroxide value, conjugated dienoic acids contents, and fatty acid composition. Tocopherols and polyphenols were also determined. Lipid oxidation of perilla seeds was higher during heating at $135^{\circ}C/2$ atm than at $100^{\circ}C/1$ atm, and the oxidation rate was lower in unroasted seeds than in roasted seeds. Degradation of tocopherols and polyphenols in perilla seeds during heating was faster under high pressure and temperature, and was decreased by seed roasting. Contribution of polyphenols to the oxidative stability of perilla seeds during heating was higher than that of tocopherols, suggesting polyphenols and seed roasting as important factors in lipid oxidation of perilla seeds.

Molybdenite concentrate ($MoS_2$) is the major mineral for the molybdenum industry, of which the industrial processing is first converted to technical grade molybdenum trioxide ($MoO_3$) by its oxidative roasting and purification, used as a raw material for manufacturing several molybdenum compounds. In the present work, detailed experimental results for the oxidative roasting of low grade Mongolian molybdenite concentrate are presented. The experiments were carried out in the temperature range of 793 to 823 K under an oxygen partial pressure range of 0.08 atm to 0.21 atm by using a thermogravimetric analysis technique. The molybdenite concentrate was an average particle size of $67\;{\mu}m$. In the oxidative roasting of low grade Mongolian molybdenite concentrate, more than 95% of molybdenite was converted to molybdenum trioxide in 60 min. at 828 K. The lander equation was found to be useful in describing the rates of the oxidative roasting and the reaction order with respect to oxygen concentration in a gaseous mixture with nitrogen was 0.11 order.
Different processing methods, including steeping, boiling, roasting, and pressure roasting were used to deactivate anti-nutritional factors and remove off-flavor present in legumes. The physical and textural characteristic of cookie made with the treated flours were examined. The lightness of roasted cowpea flour was higher than that of the other treated legume flours, whereas that of pressure-roasted mungbean flour was the lowest. The boiled and pressure-roasted legume flours exhibited substantially lower pasting viscosity since the starches in these flours were considerably gelatinized during the heat treatment. Steeped mungbean flour had a significantly higher final viscosity than the other treated legume flours. Cookies containing mungbean flour had a higher protein content but lower lipid content than those containing cowpea flour. Cookies made with cowpea flour had a greater hardness than those made with mungbean flour. Cookies containing roasted flour had relatively better color properties than did those containing flours that were treated using other methods.
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of cold-pressed flaxseed oil through the roasting temperature (unroasted and roasted at 150℃ and 200℃) and time (10 and 20 min) on the chemical changes. Cold-pressed flaxseed oil extraction yield was calculated with respect to the roasted process and total phenolic content, fatty acid composition, and volatile compound were analyzed. The extraction yield was increased in the roasted oil compared to the unroasted oil. Total phenolic content was significantly higher in oil from the roasted at 150℃ for 20 min compared to other roasting condition. Fatty acid composition was not affected by the extraction process. The content of aldehyde, ketone, furan, and pyrazine was higher than in the roasted at 200℃ compared to the unroasted and roasted at 150℃. These findings suggest that cold-pressed flaxseed oil extracted from the roasted at 150℃ for 20 min may be considered acceptable for safe extraction process.
Ginseng seed oil was prepared using compressed, solvent, and supercritical fluid extraction methods of ginseng seeds, and the extraction yield, color, phenolic compounds, fatty acid contents, and phytosterol contents of the ginseng seed oil were analyzed. Yields were different depending on the roasting pretreatment and extraction method. Among the extraction methods, the yield of ginseng seed oil from supercritical fluid extraction under the conditions of 500 bar and $65^{\circ}C$ was the highest, at 17.48%. Color was not different based on the extraction method, but the b-value increased as the roasting time for compression extraction was increased. The b-values of ginseng seed oil following supercritical fluid extraction were 3.54 to 15.6 and those following compression extraction after roasting treatment at $200^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, were 20.49, which was the highest value. The result of the phenolic compounds composition showed the presence of gentisic acid, vanillic acid, ferulic acid, and cinnamic acid in the ginseng seed oil. No differences were detected in phenolic acid levels in ginseng seed oil extracted by compression extraction or solvent extraction, but vanillic acid tended to decrease as extraction pressure and temperature were increased for seed oil extracted by a supercritical fluid extraction method. The fatty acid composition of ginseng seed oil was not different based on the extraction method, and unsaturated fatty acids were >90% of all fatty acids, among which, oleic acid was the highest at 80%. Phytosterol analysis showed that ${\beta}$-sitosterol and stigmasterol were detected. The phytosterol content of ginseng seed oil following supercritical fluid extraction was 100.4 to 135.5 mg/100 g, and the phytosterol content following compression extraction and solvent extraction was 71.8 to 80.9 mg/100 g.
The efficient use as a protein source for poultry of full fat soybean (FFSB) treated under various processes, i. e. steaming under pressure 40 lbs/sq. inch for 5, 10 or 15 minutes or roasting in a baking oven at $180^{\circ}C$ for 20, 30 or 40 minutes or extruding was compared with that of soybean meal. Eight hundred straight run broiler chicks (AA 707) were randomly allotted into 8 treatments of 4 replicates, fed with, rations containing either kind of the above mentioned FFSB for 6 weeks (Wks 1-7). The protein content of the diets for chicks during 1-3, 3-6 and 6-7 weeks of age was 21, 19 and 17% respectively. The result revealed that steaming can destroy 76-92% of the trypsin inhibitor activity (TlA) in soybean, particularly that at 15 minutes, while roasting can get rid of only 13-28% TlA. Chicks fed roasted FFSB had an enlarged pancreas and showed inferior performances to the steaming and the extrusion products. Steaming should be at least 10-15 minutes in order to obtain the comparable performances to those of the extrusion or of the soybean meal. The extruded FFSB showed the best feed conversion ratio. This might be due to the very fine particle of the product.
