Purpose: To determine the effects of hand massage on nausea and vomiting, and anxiety in children with Iymphocytic leukemia receiving high dose chemotherapy. Method: The children were assigned to an experimental group(15) or a control group(15). All of the children were diagnosed with acute Iymphocytic leukemia and admitted for high dose chemotherapy at C University Medical Center in Seoul. The hand massage was performed for 10 minutes twice a day over three days. To measure the effects of hand massage, the Index of Nausea and Vomiting by Rhodes et al. and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for children by Spielberger were used. The level of anxiety was measured by systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and pulse rate. Results: The score for nausea and vomiting decreased in the experimental group. State anxiety for the experimental group was significantly more positive than for the control group at the 2nd measurement. There was a significant difference in systolic blood pressure between the two groups. The level of diastolic blood pressure in the two groups decreased significantly over time. Conclusion: Hand massage could be effective in decreasing nausea and vomiting, state anxiety, pulse rate and blood pressure in children with acute leukemia receiving high dose chemotherapy.
Loss of postural balance can possibly lead to increased risk of slips and falls in work places. Present study was performed to investigate the effects of noisy environments on postural stability during standing. It is known that a sound is characterized by the frequency and pressure level of the sound. Therefore, effects of the frequency and pressure level on postural stability were of primary concern. Ten male subjects participated in the experiment. Subject's center of pressure(COP) position was collected on a force plate while they were exposed to different frequency and pressure levels of the sound. Measured COP was then converted into the length of postural sway path in both anterior-posterior(AP) and medio-lateral(ML) axis. Results showed that the length of sway path in AP axis was significantly affected by the frequency of sound. The length of sway path was lowest at frequency level of 2000Hz and increased below and above this frequency range. The sound pressure level, however, did not significantly affect the postural sway length in both AP and ML axis. The results imply that industrial workers in noisy environments should be aware that their abilities of postural balance can be disturbed significantly.

This experimental investigation has been conducted to determine the effects of swirling angle and flow patterns on distributions of void fraction, bubble velocity and two-phase pressure drop in a vertical straight tube. Swirling angles of $0^{\circ}$ (non swirling), $30^{\circ}$, and $45^{\circ}$ were tested with air-water two components over a range of superficial air velocities. A transparent lucite tube of 38mm in internal diameter was used for the test section. The void fraction and bubble velocities were measured by means of a optical fiber probe at the upper part of the swirler in the test section. Pressure drops which seem to be closely related with flow patterns and swirling angle were measured by a differential pressure transducer. It is shown that the probability density functions of pressure drop demonstrate peculiar features for both swirling angles and flow patterns, whereas the distributions of void fraction and bubble velocities are parabolic and flat shape in the vicinity of tube center, respectively except bubbly flow in any swirling angle cases, and the void fraction increases with increasing swirling angle around the center of tube.

The optimal structure of the Tonpilz transducer was designed. First, the FE model of the transducer was constructed, that included all the details of the transducer which used practical environment. The validity of the FE model was verified through the impedance analysis of the transducer. Second, the resonance frequency, the sound pressure, the bandwidth, and the impulsive shock pressure of the transducer in relation to its structural variables were analyzed. Third, the design method of $2^n$ experiments was employed to reduce the number of analysis cases, and through statistical multiple regression analysis of the results, the functional forms of the transducer performances that could consider the cross-coupled effects of the structural variables were derived. Based on the all results, the optimal geometry of the Tonpilz transducer that had the highest sound pressure level at the desired working environment was determined through the optimization with the SQP-PD method of a target function composed of the transducer performance. Furthermore, for the convenience of a user, the automatic process program making the optimal structure of the acoustic transducer automatically at a given target and a desired working environment was made. The developed method can reflect all the cross-coupled effects of multiple structural variables, and can be extended to the design of general acoustic transducers.
Motivated by reducing the uncertainties in quantification of debris bed coolability, this paper reports an experimental study on two-phase flow resistances and interfacial drag in packed porous beds. The experiments are performed on the DEBECO-LT (DEbris BEd COolability-Low Temperature) test facility which is constructed to investigate the adiabatic single and two phase flow in porous beds. The pressure drops are measured when air-water two phase flow passes through the porous beds packed with different size particles, and the effects of interfacial drag are studied especially. The results show that, for two phase flow through the beds packed with small size particles such as 1.5 mm and 2 mm spheres, the contribution of interfacial drag to the pressure drops is weak and ignorable, while the significant effects are conducted on the pressure drops of the beds with bigger size particles like 3 mm and 6 mm spheres, where the interfacial drag in beds with larger particles will result in a descent-ascent tendency in the pressure drop curves along with the fluid velocity, and the effect of interfacial drag should be considered in the debris coolability analysis models for beds with bigger size particles.

The goals of this study are to elucidate the plasma effects on DNA molecules to apply some plasma based applications and also to find out the mechanisms of plasma-induced DNA damage in biomolecule. Nonthermal atmospheric pressure plasma has much potential for medical, agricultural and food applications for the future. The atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) contains radicals, charged particles, low energy electrons, excited molecules and UV light. It has been started doing experiments using APPJ at the early 21th. And some recent results showed that APPJ has a possibility to apply to new fields like mentioned above. But it is kind of at the very early stages of plasma based application. It is definitely necessary much of theoretical and experimental studies to further understanding to use nonthermal atmospheric pressure plasma in biomedical, agriculture and food parts. Here we introduce a new experimental system to study plasma effects on biomolecules. And we will show some recent results of LEE-induced DNA damage using electron irradiation apparatus under ultra-high vacuum.
The study investigated the effects of protein concentration, EGTA and strength of hydrostatic pressure on pH, viscosity and turbidity for ultra filtrated skim milk retentates. The results showed that hydrostatic pressure treatments up to 600 MPa did not affect the viscosity of skim milk, while the turbidity of skim milk increased at higher than 200 MPa. Addition of EGTA caused reduction in turbidity of skim milk, two times (2SR) and three times (3SR) concentrated skim milk retentates. Viscosity for 2SR and 3SR increased proportionally to the amount of EGTA, but viscosity of skim milk was not influenced by EGTA. High pressure treatment also did not cause any difference in viscosity and turbidity of skim milk. However, this treatment decreased viscosity and turbidity for 2SR and 3SR. In particular, 200 MPa treatment showed to induce a higher decrease in turbidity compared with 400 MPa.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the immediate effects of negative pressure soft tissue therapy on muscle tone, muscle stiffness and balance in patients with stroke. In total, 20 patients with stroke and assigned to the negative pressure soft tissue therapy group (NPST, n=10) or, placebo-negative pressure soft tissue therapy group(Placebo-NPST, n=10). Both groups underwent NPST or placebo-NPST once a day during the experimental period. MyotonPRO was used to assess the parameters for muscle tone and stiffness. Biorescue was used to assess the parameters for balance. Each group showed improvements in muscle tone, muscle stiffness, and balance ability (p<.05). Especially, Muscle tone, muscle stiffness, and anterior length in the limit of stability were the significant improvement on NPST group (p<.05). The results of the study suggest that the NPST is effective in improving muscle tone, muscle stiffness, and balance ability in patients with stroke.
We have investigated the effects of sputtering Ar gas pressure on magnetic and magneto-optical properties in compositionally modulated Co/Pt superlattice thin films. The samples were prepared by dc magnetron sputtering. Sputtrering Ar gas pressure was varied from 2 to 30 mTorr. The microstructure of the samples was examined by scanning electron microscope and the x-ray diffractometry. The magnetization, the Kerr rotation angle, and the reflectivity of the samples were measured. The columnar structure was developed, and the coercivity was drasti- cally increased, when the sputtering Ar gas pressure was higher than 20 mTorr. We explained that the variation of the magnetization, the Kerr rotation angle, and the reflectivity was related with the microstructure influenced by the variation of the Ar gas pressure.
Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of contact handorientation response(CHOR) during sit-to-stand(STS) in people with stroke. Methods The subjects of the study were Thirty hemiplegia participated (Rt. hemiplegia/Lt. hemiplegia: 15/15, mean age: $65.82{\pm}8.53$) in this study. The analysis of muscles activation (rectus femoris, biceps femoris, tibialis anterior, gastrocnemius) distribution was conducted by the EMG, and the analysis of foot pressure distribution was conducted by the resistive pressure sensor. Hemiplegic stroke patients were instructed to perform STS three times with the non-affected side hand and affected side hand on the table. Results There was a significant positive correlation between rectus femoris, tibialis anterior muscle activation and affected side hand contact during STS(p<0.05). The STS correlated with the foot pressure in the affected side hand contact(p<0.05). Conclusion AS a result, CHOR during STS is related to muscle activation and the characteristics of foot pressure. This information was observed in the affected side hand contact on the table, suggestion that rehabilitation programs should be implemented.
