In the current code design, the use of a uniform internal pressure coefficient of cooling towers as internal suction cannot reflect the 3D characteristics of flow field inside the tower body with different ventilation rate of shutters. Moreover, extreme weather such as heavy rain also has a direct impact on aerodynamic force on the internal surface and changes the turbulence effect of pulsating wind. In this study, the world's tallest cooling tower under construction, which stands 210m, is taken as the research object. The algorithm for two-way coupling between wind and rain is adopted. Simulation of wind field and raindrops is performed iteratively using continuous phase and discrete phase models, respectively, under the general principles of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Firstly, the rule of influence of 9 combinations of wind speed and rainfall intensity on the volume of wind-driven rain, additional action force of raindrops and equivalent internal pressure coefficient of the tower body is analyzed. The combination of wind velocity and rainfall intensity that is most unfavorable to the cooling tower in terms of distribution of internal pressure coefficient is identified. On this basis, the wind/rain loads, distribution of aerodynamic force and working mechanism of internal pressures of the cooling tower under the most unfavorable working condition are compared between the four ventilation rates of shutters (0%, 15%, 30% and 100%). The results show that the amount of raindrops captured by the internal surface of the tower decreases as the wind velocity increases, and increases along with the rainfall intensity and ventilation rate of the shutters. The maximum value of rain-induced pressure coefficient is 0.013. The research findings lay the basis for determining the precise values of internal surface loads of cooling tower under extreme weather conditions.

The pressure oscillation induced by inhibitor in a solid rocket motor has been investigated by 3D large eddy simulation(LES) and proper orthogonal decomposition(POD). The vortex generation and breakdown at inhibitor are periodically observed between the inhibitor and the nozzle by flow-acoustic coupling mechanism. The excitation of pressure oscillation occurs as the flow impinges on the submerged nozzle head which recirculate in the cavity in rear dome of the motor chamber. The vortex generation frequency is closely related with the shedding frequencies of the detached vorticities at the inhibiter, which fairly compared with the experimental data.
This paper proposes a multi absorbing wave energy converter design, in which a hydrostatic transmission is used to transfer wave energy to electric energy. The most important feature of this system is its combination of the pressure coupling principle with the use of a hydraulic accumulator to eliminate the effects of wave power fluctuation; this maintains a constant speed of the hydraulic motor. Tilt motion of a floating buoy was employed as the power take-off mechanism. Furthermore, a PID controller was designed to carry out the speed control of the hydraulic motor. The design offers some advantages such as extending the life of the hydraulic components, increasing the amount of energy harvested, and stabilizing the output speed.

Recently in the automotive brake industry brake squeal noise has become one of the top automotive quality warranty issues. The contact pressure is used to predict friction coupling in the brake squeal analysis. The formulation of friction coupling has performed by nonlinear static analysis prior to the complex eigenvalue analysis. This paper proposes a validation methodology of squeal analysis using modal testing and contact analysis and examines the effect of predicted contact pressure that leads to the discrepancy between unstable complex mode and squeal frequency. This studies compose a three step validation process : examining the modal characteristics of component and assembly loaded contact pressure using modal testing and FEM analysis and verifying the contact pressure distribution using nonlinear static analysis and experiment. Finally, the unstable modes from complex eigenvalue analysis and realistic squeal frequency from the noise dynamometer are investigated.
The cycling impact test of red sandstone soil under different axial pressure and different impact loads are conducted to reveal the mechanical properties and energy consumption mechanism of red sandstone soil with static-dynamic coupling loading. The results show that: Under the action of different axial pressure and different impact loads, the peak stress of the specimen increases, and then tends to be stable with the times of impact. With the increase of impact times, the specific energy absorption value of the red sandstone soil specimen is increased first and then gentle development trend. When the impact loads are certain, the larger the axial pressure is, the smaller the peak value of energy absorption, which indicates that the energy utilization rate is not high under the condition of large axial pressure. Through the analysis of energy utilization, it is found that the smaller the impact load, the higher the energy utilization rate. The greater the axial pressure, the lower the energy utilization rate. when the axial pressure is large, the impact loads corresponding to the maximum values of reflectivity, transmissivity and absorptivity are the same. The relationship between reflectivity and transmissivity is negatively correlated.

The concrete pipe(Hume, PC) and polyethylene(PE) pipe are usually used for dram pipe in local market. Hume pipe, however, is heavy and needs the high cost of construction and PC pipe has a disadvantage to easily occur the deformation by the outside pressure even though it is light and constructible. The corrugated steel pipe coated with polyethylene is used increasedly because it is durable, constructible and economical. However, it is not used for sewage or waste water because it is hard to guarantee the watertight property on the coupling part. In this study, we studied on the flange coupling and the method of its construction to guarantee the watertight property and easy to use. If the developed flange coupling and method are used on a construction field, the economical property, constructible property and structural safety can be guaranteed.

It is hard to expect excellent electrical, mechanical and chemical properties from most of the composite materials presently used as insulators due to insufficient wettability property caused by the difference of interfacial properties between the matrix material and the reinforcer. Therefore, various interfacial coupling agents have been developed to improve the interfacial properties of composite materials. But if the wettable coupling agents are used outdoor for a long time, change in quality takes place in the coupling agents themselves, bringing about deterioration of the properties of the composite materials. In this study, glass surface was treated by plasma to examine the effect of dry interface treatment without coupling agent. It was identified that the optimum parameters for the best wettability of the samples at the time of generation of plasma were oxygen atmosphere, 0.1 torr of system pressure, 100 W of discharge power, and 3 minutes of discharge time. Also, the surface resistance rate and dielectric property were improved.

Vortex-induced vibration (VIV) is a significant concern when designing slender structures with square cross sections. VIV strongly depends on structural dynamics and flow states, which depend on the conditions of the approaching flow and shape of a structure. Therefore, the effects of the angle of attack on the coupling effects of VIV for a square cylinder are expected to be significant in practice. In this study, the aerodynamic forces for a fixed and elastically mounted square cylinder were measured using wind pressure tests. Aerodynamic forces on the stationary cylinder are firstly discussed by comparisons of variation of statistical aerodynamic force and wind pressure coefficient with wind angle of attack. The coupling effect between the aerodynamic forces and the motion of the oscillating square cylinder by VIV is subsequently investigated in detail at typical wind angels of attack with occurrence of three typical flow regimes, i.e., leading-edge separation, separation bubble (reattachment), and attached flow. The coupling effect are illustrated by discussing the onset of VIV, characteristics of aerodynamic forces during VIV, and interaction between motion and aerodynamic forces. The results demonstrate that flow states can be classified based on final separation points or the occurrence of reattachment. These states significantly influence coupling effects of the oscillating cylinder. Vibration enhances vortex shedding, which creates strong fluctuations in aerodynamic forces. However, differences in the lock-in range, aerodynamic force, and interaction process for angles of attack smaller and larger than the critical angle of attack revealed noteworthy characteristics in the VIV of a square cylinder.

If a wall separates the bounded and unbounded spaces, then the wall's role in transporting the acoustic characteristics of the two spaces is not well defined. In this paper, we attempted to see how the acoustic characteristical of two spaces are really affected by the spatial characteristics of the wall. In order to understand coupling mechanism, we choose a finite space and a semi-infinite space separated by the flexible or rigid wall and an opening. A volume interaction can be occurred in structure boundary and a pressure interaction can be happened in the opening boundary. For its simplicity, without loosing generality, we use rather simplified rectangle model instead of generally shaped model. The source impedance is presented to the various types of boundaries. The distributions of pressure and active intensity are also presented at the cavity and structure-dominated modes. The resulting modification, shifts of mode1 frequencies and changing of standing wave patterns to satisfy both coupled boundary conditions and governing equations, are presented.
