This paper describes a three-dimensional transient finite element model for a laser cladding process. In the model, an adaptive finite element technique is used for dilution control. Using the proposed finite element model, the effects of process parameters such as scanning speed, laser's power, and preheating on the dilution of clad layer, the shape of melting pool, and the temperature distribution are calculated. It is also shown that the optimal process parameters for the required dilution can be determined from the proposed finite element model. An experiment is performed to validate the proposed model. The numerical results are compared with experimental ones.
The electrochemical properties of LixCoyNi1-yO2 compounds (y=0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 1.0) prepared by citrate sol-gel method have been investigated. The LixCoyNi1-yO2 compounds were annealed at 850 ℃ for 20 h after preheating at 650 ℃ for 6 h, in air. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns for LixCoyNi1-yO2 have shown that these compounds have a well developed layered structure (R&bar{3} m). From the scanning electron microscopy of LixCoyNi1-yO2, particle size was estimated less than 5 μm. The Li//LixCoyNi1-yO2 electrochemical cell consists of Li metal anode and 1 M LiClO4-propylene carbonate (PC) solution as the electrolyte. The differences in intercalation rate of the LixCoyNi1-yO2 in the first charge/discharge cycle were less than 0.05 e-. The first discharge capacities of LixCoO2 and LixCo0.3Ni0.7O2 were ∼130 mAh/g and ∼160 mAh/g, respectively.
An air source heat pump system producing the ice and water storage energy for cooling and heating of building has been proposed. Cycle design and simulation considering energy balance between heating and cooling capacity has been carried out. The roles of the capacity controlled compressor, refrigerant heating device and air preheating are investigated in detail. System control logic for meeting the predetermined heating capacity when the system is operated at cold climate condition is suggested. Some anticipated problems of the proposed system are also described.
Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanism and effect of moxibustion with ginger objectively, to be used as the quantitative data through the measurement of temperature, and to grasp the thermodynamic characteristics of moxibustion with ginger. Methods : We have selected the indirect moxibustion with ginger among many indirect moxibustions. We produced a slice of ginger to a thickness of 3, 4, 5mm and the moxa cone having a diameter of 8mm, a height of 10mm for making a comparative study of characteristics of moxa cone according to change the density. We have made a comparative study of the thermodynamic characteristics of moxibustion with ginger with or without holes. We measured combustion times and calculated temperatures, temperature gradients in each period during a combustion of moxa. Results : 1. We found out it was not significantly influenced by the existence of the punched holes in a slice of ginger because the punched holes grow smaller immediately. 2. The duration of the preheating period became longer according to thickness of a slice of ginger and was not directly proportional to the density of moxa cone. The duration of the preheating period was extremely short when it burned a 100mg moxa cone. That was influenced by the density of moxa cone. 3. The duration of the heating period became longer according to thickness of a slice of ginger likewise the preheating period bacause the density of moxa cone had effected on the combustion characteristics. The duration of the heating period was extremely long when it burned a 100mg moxa cone. On the other hand the maximum temperature in the heating period was appeared that the combustion with a thin slice of ginger was highest and measured that the large density of moxa cone was higher. But the maximum temperature in the heating period was about $37.8^{\circ}C{\sim}44.2^{\circ}C$respectively lower in others. 4. The duration of the retaining period was some doubling shorter than that of the heating period that is concerned the shape of moxa cone. The temperature measured the close of a retaining period was $36.6^{\circ}C{\sim}41.8^{\circ}C$, that was considerably lower temperature. 5. The mean ascending temperature velocity and the mean descending temperature velocity were $0.042{\sim}0.073^{\circ}C/sec$, $-0.027{\sim}-0.064^{\circ}C/sec$ respectively. Then, the ascending temperature velocity was some faster than the ascending temperature velocity. Conclusions : The quantitative standard for obtaining the effective heating stimulation is that if the slice of ginger made a hole in it, we had to use the needle above 1.5mm diameter. The recommended size of a slice ginger is the 14mm diameter and the 2~3mm thickness. The moxa cone is formed the conical shape that the base diameter was 8mm, the height was 10mm, the density was $600mg/cm^2$.
Various pretreatment methods were evaluated to prevent tissue softening of heated onion. Changes in onion tissue firmness during heating were explained by 3-mechanism model consisting of texture hardening at low temperature ($60-80^{\circ}C$) and substrate softening at high temperature. Preheating of onion in a $Ca^{2+}$-containing solution significantly improved its texture after high-temperature heating. The improvement of firmness by preheating at low temperature was related to the formation of strong cross-linking between carboxyl groups and $Ca^{2+}$ by the action of pectin methylesterase in onion. The highest firmness was obtained by pre-heating at $70^{\circ}C$ for 120 min in 0.5% calcium solution. This result was supported by chemical analysis showing that the amount of bound calcium was the highest at $70^{\circ}C$. Further investigation should be carried out to establish the optimal conditions to prevent the softening of various vegetables.
A previous stud-pull test was modified to measure the bond strength of polyurethane foam to carbon steel substrate. This test was appropriate in that the specimen foamed on Zn phosphated steel (0.95 kN) was broken at higher load than that of smooth galvanizing treated steel (0.38 kN). Among the samples foamed on the substrate atvarious preheating temperatures, the polyurethane foam to the steel held over 60$^{\circ}C$ exhibited very high bond strength. The samples were exposed at water vapor absorption, and, then, their bond strengths were measured. The adhesion was significantly reduced in the samples foamed on the steel at temperatures below 40$^{\circ}C$ and above 70$^{\circ}C$. For the polyurethane foams formulated with two blowing gases, the adhesion was higher by 0.03 kN in the samples with HCFC-l4lb than that with HFC-245fa. When the these samples were exposed at water vapor soaking, the reduction of the bond strength for the HFC-245fa blown sample was negligible due to smaller area fraction of void area filled with gas at interfacial area. Consequently, it was found that adhesion of polyurethane foam to metal substrate was determined by variation of microstructural features with substrate preheating, surface treatment type of blowing agent.

PURPOSE. Heat of composite polymerization (HP) indicates setting efficacy and temperature increase of composite in clinical procedures. The purpose of this in vitro experimental study was to evaluate the effects of 5 temperatures on HP of two new composites. MATERIALS AND METHODS. From each material (Core Max II [CM] and King Dental [KD]), 5 groups of 5 specimens each were prepared and their total HPs (J/gr) were measured and recorded, at one of the constant temperatures $0^{\circ}C$, $15^{\circ}C$, $23^{\circ}C$, $37^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$ ($2{\times}5{\times}5$ specimens) using a differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyzer. The data were analyzed using a two-way ANOVA, a Tukey's test, an independent-samples ttest, and a linear regression analysis (${\alpha}=0.05$). RESULTS. No polymerization reactions occurred at $0^{\circ}C$; then this temperature was excluded from statistical analyses. The mean HP of the remaining 20 KD specimens was $20.5{\pm}14.9$ J/gr, while it was $40.7{\pm}12.9$ J/gr for CM. The independent-samples t-test showed that there were significant differences between the HP of the two materials at the temperatures $15^{\circ}C$ (P=.0001), $23^{\circ}C$ (P=.0163), $37^{\circ}C$ (P=.0039), and $60^{\circ}C$ (P=.0106). Linear regression analysis showed statistically significant correlations between environment temperatures and HP of CM ($R^2=0.777$). CONCLUSION. Using CM is advantageous over conventional composite because of its better polymerization capacity. However due to its high HP, further studies should assess its temperature increase in vivo. Preheating KD is recommended. Refrigerating composites can negatively affect their polymerization potential.

Welding preheating means that the surface of the base material to which the metal is welded before the main welding is heated to a constant temperature. It prevents the cracks of the adjacent influences such as reduction of material hardening degree by controlling the cooling rate, suppression of segregation of impurities, prevention of thermal deformation, and moisture removal. For this reason, it is a necessary operation for high quality welding. Induction heating is an efficient heating method that converts electric energy into heat energy by applying electromagnetic induction phenomenon. Compared with combustion heat generated by gas and liquid, it is clean, stable, and economical as well as rapid heating. It can be heated regardless of the shape, depth and material of the heating body by modifying the shape of the frequency and the coil with a simple structure. In this paper, we implemented a low frequency welding preheating system using induction heating technique and observed the temperature changes of coil resistance, inductance and automotive transmission parts according to the height of each transmission in winding coil for three kinds of automotive transmission parts. We confirmed that the change of current is a very important factor in the low frequency heating.
Whole muskmelon was blanched at 50$^{\circ}C$ water for inhibition decline of fresh-cut melon quality from direct heat treatment. The muskmelon, after storage at 5$^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours, was processed to melon cylinders with 2 cm diameter. The changes of color, texture and the quality characteristics such as gas composition. soluble solid content, pH during storage at 5$^{\circ}C$ were measured. Degree of oxygen contents decreased and that of carbon dioxide in melon cylinder increased during storage. Especially, changes of gas composition inside packages appeared high level cor in blanched melon cylinders than non-treatment melons. Blanching with whole fruits at 50$^{\circ}C$ had effects on hardness in melon cylinder. Blanched melon, without regard on branching time, appeared higher hardness value than that of non-blanched melon at 6 days storage. There were slight difference between treatment on melon cylinder color. Degrees of change in soluble solid contents and pH on melon cylinder blanched at 50$^{\circ}C$ for 20minuets were lower than that of other treatments. In consequence, blanching with whole fruit at 50$^{\circ}C$ for 20minuets, before minimal processing, was effective in preserving of texture and quality of melon cylinder during storage.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the flow ability of the thermoplasticized Gutta Percha in different temperatures. Four Gutta Percha products were classified by its hardness (soft, medium, and hard) and were experimented by the Rheometer (Melt flow indexer MFI-10, DAVENPORT, England) measuring apparatus, in $(23{\pm}2)^{\circ}C$, and in a relative humidity of ($50{\pm}5$) %, following the guidelines of ISO 1133-1:2011. The heating temperature ranged from $108^{\circ}C$, $160^{\circ}C$ to $200^{\circ}C$, and the load at 2.16 kg and 3.8 kg. The Gutta Percha was cut in 5 mm to be suitable for the rheometer pressurization process. After the experiment was conducted with a preheating time of 5 minutes, a cutting time of 5-240 seconds, and a sample of 10 grams, the Gutta Percha did not show any changes in fluidity for $108^{\circ}C$, $160^{\circ}C$, but showed a change in its flow ability in $200^{\circ}C$. Also, the Gutta Percha did not show any changes in its fluidity when it was pressurized by 2.16 and 3.8 kilograms. Therefore, this experiment shows that the heating temperature and the cut-off time showed a significance while measuring the melt flow rate.
